He never showed up. Had to call another contractor.
Description of Work: They installed a unit and claimed that they back up their work. Called a week ago told the owner that I was having trouble with the unit heating. He said he would be there the next day. He never showed. I called the next week. He then said he was on a job in Union. I asked why he never got to it last week. He then got all loud and roudy to where he even hung up the phone. I have an obligation to my tenant to provide heat in these temperatures of 18 degrees. They gladly take your money on the install but when it is time to service the unit on warranty, they get real busy and unavailable.

His FINAL job for us was to be to install an outdoor light in our front yard. I bought the light and it sat on our patio for AN ENTIRE YEAR before he "got around to it." At that point, he knocked out a brick closing what used to be a dryer vent hole to the small crawl space under our kitchen (the rest is full basement)., and borrowed my MINITILLER to "dig" an electrical line for the outdoor light, which he buried only an inch or two deep! Best of all, however, when he ran the wires into our basement, rather than wiring it directly into our electricity somehow, he simply stripped the BARE ENDS of the two wires and PLUGGED THEM DIRECTLY INTO AN ELECTRICAL OUTLET next to the plug for a downstairs refrigerator!!! Meantime, we had some recessed lights in our hanging ceiling in the basement which had been put in by someone who once lived with us. They hadn't worked in years, so I never turned them on. He pulled out A BUNCH of those panels and "got all excited" that all that wiring was bad and "a fire hazard," and wanted ANOTHER $900 to re-wire all that, even though I have no need for light there, and never turn it on. When I refused, and told him TO FIX THE WIRING FOR THE OUTDOOR LIGHT, he claimed he would, but never did. He'd also replaced our outdoor fuse box with a panel (temporarily removing the power meter in the process, which I didn't know at the time). EXASPERATED at the fire hazard he'd left in our basement, I called out the county inspector, who said not only had he NEVER FILED for required permits for ANY of the electrical work he did, but that in addition to the fire hazard in the basement, he'd left OPEN HOLES in the indoor breaker box that are electrocution hazards AND connected cooper directly to a different metal in out main outdoor fuse box, without using an intermediary, which will cause corrosion. He said in order to achieve rememdy (he has state licenses for HVAC, Electrical and carpentry), I'd have to send him a certified letter and give him 30 days before I could go after his licenses. I never have, as every time we call he's "in the hospital" for SOMETHING! We'll end up paying A REAL ELECTRICIAN to fix all his screw-ups! NEVER, EVER, EVER! Give Mitchell Cothran ONE DIME of your money!!! (That's the other thing; he asks to have checks made directly to HIM, not to his business. Any thoughts on that???)
Description of Work: Piedmont Heating and AC, owned and operated by Mitchell Cothran, was recommended to us by the company from which we'd been buy fuel oil for the heater than came in our house, built in the early 1960s. We knew the heater was on its last legs, so we called him in early October of 2009. He seemed reputable enough on his visit, and we made the mistake of not getting other quotes. After a single inspection, he determined that out old oil furnace did, indeed, need to go, and we decided to go with gas (we DID NOT have natural gas run to our home at that time -- the line stopped at the street). Within less than a day, he's completely ripped out our old oil furnace (he also told us we'd need a new central AC unit to "fit the system," even though our current unit was only a year or two old). Of course he ripped out our OLD furnace before he even applied to the local gas company to get a gas line run to our house, so it was EARLY NOVEMBER before we had central heat again. In the meantime, we had to heat the entire house with electric space heaters! THEN, he waited until it was almost too hot to bear to install a new AC unit the following spring (we live in South Carolina). He's a "sweet-talkin' old southern boy," however, and he wrapped my mother around his little finger, so he talked her into even MORE work. He CLAIMED to be a "master electrician, and replaced our fuse box with a breaker box, plus had his brother (also, supposedly a "master electrician") run a new line down to my office downstairs for additional outlets and a GFCI (as I have a computer and a lot of other electronics running in what was once a fourth bedroom in the basement).

This was the worst experience I have had so far. Please don't ever hire this company for anything. They ripped me off for over $3000.00. They had claimed that they were licensed to do electrical work as well as heating and air. They got a permit and started the job on day one demanding half of the estimate up front. They were hired to do a complete rewire of a small house. They started the job, took the money and I didn't hear or see them for days at a time. I kept calling to complain but never got service. After a month, I was so fed up with them. They would come and work for 1 hour and then leave for days. The job never got done. Someone got shocked from live wires that they left sticking out of an outlet box at the house. They are nothing more than scumbags and crooks especially the guy who seems to be running things. He has some tag along guys working with him and none of them are certified for anything. The old man is too fat and slobby to do any real work so he assumes the "supervisor" role. He is the biggest scumbag of them all. Constantly asking for more money and not doing any work. I regret that I ever got involved with them. This is all true, no exaggerations. This has been the most horrible experience that I have had with a contractor before. I really feel duped. I am writing this because it may help someone else avoid what I have endured. To this day the work is not yet done because I am so skeptical of trusting anyone in my home.
Description of Work: They started a job to do a complete re-wire of my home but the job was never completed.
