About us

Carolina Plumbing has been in business for over 28 years. As owner I (Ed Bishop) have held a Masters Certification as a plumber for over 32 years. We have 2 employees and train them to follow plumbing codes. We believe that a customer complaint is not a problem but an opportunity to prove our warranty is good. The standard rates are as follows: 85$ for individuals 64 years of age and under--$65 for individuals 65 and older including veterans and those signed up with Angie's List. Individuals out side the Spartanburg city limits are charged a $15 trip fee. We believe it is your home or business and have a right to ask questions and understand what and why we are doing the work

He seldom showed up on time or when he said he would, putting us behind schedule. Our chief complaint is he just wouldn't show up when he was supposed to, and our other contractors were waiting for him to finish before proceeding. One day he called in sick and we wished him well, however, we ran into him 2 hours later at Lowes, which makes us think he is just a liar. He ruined brand new cabinets by drilling holes in places that were not necessary. He tore out a hole in the back of a brand new bathroom sink cabinet. (SEE PHOTO) Then scrawled a message on a piece of plaster board, about the bathroom cabinet needed to be moved. (SEE PHOTO). He connected both a hot and cold water line together to the hot water heater (SEE PHOTO) and two other contractors commented they don't know why he would intentionally do this. One said, "this is not the work of a master plumber, as he claims to be." This is why we have decided to report him . WORTHY OF MENTION- On one occasion, he said, "let me ask you a personal question. You're gay, or homosexual? Why is it that gay people don't get upset when we are late or not on time?" He went on to say, " It's just like little old Black ladies. They don't complain either." Anyone reading these truthful comments can draw their own conclusion.
Description of Work: He did not complete the job as promised. He was hired to: provide all supplies and install a hot water heater , install a drain pan under the Hot Water Heater that would drain into the kitchen sink drain. Furthermore, he was supposed install hot and cold water supply lines for a dishwasher, an ice maker. He agreed to run water supply lines to the bathroom, up through the attic. All of the kitchen water lines were to be installed underneath the new Ikea cabinets, to prevent damage to the cabinets AND allow clearance for the lazy susan to operate . Our cabinet installers raised the cabinets expressly for this purpose ; to allow him room to do this. .

Mr [Member Name Removed] is correct to some extent but I [Member Name Removed] is correct to some extent. The entire job should [Member Information Removed] been handled by an experience contractor. the progression of the work was not correct. Finished tile floors are not [Member Information Removed] first. Cabinets should not be [Member Information Removed] before the rough in plumbing and electrical is done. The relocation of the water heater warranted the drilling of some holes in the cabinets. The support stand under the cabinet for the water heater was made of 1 inch by 4 inch wood ( commonly called 1x4) the total weight of the water heater was over 400 lbs. This was my concern for not continuing the work . None of this would [Member Information Removed] been an issue if the rough in work had been [Member Information Removed] inside the walls before the cabinets were [Member Information Removed] . The large hole in the vanity was needed because the sewer [Member Information Removed] was covered; again the wrong progression of work. I hesitate to do work for home owners whom are remodeling that act as their own contractor for these very reasons. No more. The number of holes was for the hot water, cold water , the water heater pan and the T&P relief valve. Some of the holes were drilled again because he did not like where they were. Bottom line-I told Mr [Member Name Removed] before the work started that holes in the cabinet were to be drilled

Ed was specific in what he was going to do and gave me recommendations about some other projects that were also needing to be done. He was there the same day when i initially called him for a quote. He had another job going on but worked on my project shortly after. He was much cheaper than my previous quote and did a fantastic job.

Ed called us right back with a time that he could do the work the next day which was a Monday. It was not an emergency so we didn't need him to do the work on Sunday. He came when he said he would and explained to me what he was doing. Very professional and a nice man. Great experience.. I would highly recommend him.

I called other plumbers and after discussing the problem, they never called back. Used Angie's List, for the first time, and called Carolina Plumbing. Talked to Ed Bishop, the owner, and we set up an appointment. He arrived on time and looked at my problem. He wanted to do some research. He called back in a couple of days and we set up another appointment. Again he arrived on time and brought with him a friend who was a retired plummer. They both looked a the problem and made some suggestions. Ed returned the next day, on time. He made the corrections to the recirculating line and relocated a valve. At first I was not sure if the problem was corrected, but within two days the the recirculating line started moving hot water throughout the system and I was able to get hot water, in 5 to 10 seconds, at all sinks throughout the house. I will call Carolina Plumbing for all of my future plumbing needs.

Ed came as scheduled and repaired leaking bathtub faucets. Needed special parts which he obtained quickly and completed repairs. He was very friendly and knowledgeable. Ed could not have been nicer. He showed up when promised, immediately identified the problems in the bathroom and fixed them. He had me turn on all faucets so he could go into the crawlspace under the house to check for leaks. Turns out there were no leaks, so no damage, and therefore no big repairs needed! Ed noticed that the hot water heater overflow pipe ran down too close to the ground, so he cut it a little shorter so that overflow would be easier to spot. I'll definitely call Carolina Plumbing when/if I have any more plumbing problems or issues. PS - The service was not free; Angie's list instructions stated that " If cost is unknown, you may input a zero." ... so that's what I did.

This company actually has tightened down every one of the commode at the church in both the male and female bathrooms. We did this 5 years ago and probably they were lose from the beginning. When they were built they were not tightened down as tight it should have been but we did not notice them till recently. Anyway they tightened them all by putting a new ring on it. Another similar provider wanted $350 per commode. It was outrageous.

Ed Bishop scheduled the appointment the day before and showed up at the appointed time. We had a toilet that was "running" (i.e., taking in water) at random times during the day. We had thought that we would need to replace all of the flush assemblies in our toilet tank. But Ed said that it was just a seal that needed replaced -so that saved us some $. Our other problem was that we had a bathtub fixture that only produced hot water. Ed spent about an hour trying to figure out if it was the controller apparatus or something else. In the end he diagnosed the problem that, when the house was built, the contractor never ran cold water line to the fixture. He helped us make contact with the County code inspectors and even made a call to the SC State code investigator to see if we had any recourse to go back to the builder and make a claim. That did not work out but he advised us to contact the company that inspected the house when we bought it 6 mos ago. They had not identified the problem when they should have. We are in the process of pursuing this. Ed did not charge us for his time to do this diagnosis but said he would add a charge to our bill if we decided to get the problem fixed. All in all, Ed was very congenial and helpful. He did what he said he was going to do and more. We can highly recommend him to fix residential plumbing problems. He gave us a small discount because we are over 65.

I found this plumber on Angie's List and called him. I was quite pleased with his responses and felt very confident with his knowledge. I explained the issue to him and he was able to tell me what he thought it was without even looking into it. He even gave a rough estimate of the cost. I saw someone else's post about him appearing rude. He is hard of hearing and is usually knee deep in plumbing issues when he answers his cell phone. He was busy when I called as well but he certainly did not come off as rude. He was very pleasant and polite. I set up an appointment for him to check out our issues. He came and fixed everything quickly. I was very impressed with how well he did everything. We had another plumber there previously who was horrible to deal with. I am glad I went with Carolina Plumbing and will definitely use him again. I recommend him to anyone with plumbing or water heater issues. He has a vast array of knowledge and is a very reasonable price. He may seem a bit pricey to some but the peace of mind you get with him is priceless. I know we will not have any more issues with our water heater now!

I called Carolina Plumbing and tried to explain my situation. After interrupting me several times he said, "wait, just hold on, let me ask the questions". He continually interrupted me. He was in the middle of something when I called, but it's not my fault he answered his phone. I would have left a message. After spending last night putting my water heater in, and still having two leaks in my water lines, I'm frustrated as well. I'm a mechanically inclined do it yourselfer, not an idiot. I just don't have the special tool that I need to fix the leak. He might be the best plumber around, but he will not get my business. Very unprofessional. Why would you be rude to someone who is trying to hire you, and hasn't been rude to you?
Description of Work: I put my water heater in last night. In the process of soldering the copper lines, we overheated some of the rubber fittings attached to both water lines. A special tool is required to crimp the rubber sleeves. We also melted the seat in the ball valve. Carolina Plumbing did not provide a service for me. I never got past a phone call.

Memberand his father 9 father in law) installed his water heater. My apologies if I seemed rude to him. I was attepting to follow his explination of the pipes that were present. I am the type of individual whom follows a conversation as it progresses and not able tounderstand if I wait till the and have multiple questions. My apologies I was unclear if he was wanting me to come out and fix it or give him details on how to do it

Carolina Plumbing turned the water heater off and started draining. He said he would come back later in the day but then he called me later and said he's gotten tied up with his original job and he was not going to be able to come back so he has found me the second plumber. Our kitchen faucet was leaking for a while, and one of our toilet tank system too. Because Ed already performed a previous job for us, I called him with confidence. His diagnostic was we had to replace the kitchen faucet and the toilet tank system. Both was old and the best option was to buy new one, not only replace some parts. I did and he came back to fixe each system. Ed is always on time when he give a time to come. He is very nice.
