When confronted with the issue, the salesman was unprofessional and arrogant. If you are interested in a quality product, with professional, ethical service, DO NOT use this retailer.
Description of Work: First ProCare Services has now changed it's name to Five Star Sunrooms. That could be a red flag. Second they sold us a product that was not designed for the specific use that we communicated. Even the manufacturer confirmed this and indicated that because of the non-disclosure of this appliance's proper installation location, insurance companies would not cover any damage. Their installer converted it incorrectly from propane to natural gas. This caused a potentially very dangerous situation, had we not detected the gas leak in the middle of the night. The gas company indicated there could have been an explosion or fire, given the amount of gas leak coming from the appliance.

Mrs. [Member Name Removed]'s husband [Member Name Removed] purchased a grill and ventilation hood from the "Outdoor Living Sales Center" retail store. We printed and provided her husband prior to his purchase all the manufactures literature and installation instructions for the grill and ventilation hood as they had ANOTHER company building the outdoor kitchen for them as the husband told us he charged way less! Hmmm?? The installer is a framing carpenter who told us he isn't an outdoor kitchen builder but was doing this project for them. Both her husband and the installer came to the store multiple times to take measurements of the actual grill prior to starting construction and we provided them multiple times all the written documentation on installation, set up and appropriate use for the grill and ventilation hood straight from the manufacturer prior to their purchase. As a retailer "only" we don't get involved with individual aspects of their projects like where they are putting it. No different than Lowes selling you a grill. Retail stores sell grills and don't build kitchens. Outdoor Living Sales Center is a retail sales store and was not involved in designing or building of the grill and ventilation hood. Lastly, ProCare is not associated in any form, fashion or ownership with Five Star Sunrooms. This can be verified through the S.C. Secretary of State website. In sum, Mrs. [Member Name Removed]'s husband and the builder were provided all the documentation needed to safely determine if the grill and ventilation hood were correct for their application. We are sorry for the difficulties experienced but it falls outside of the responsibility of a retail store.

We contacted ProCare to give us an estimate for the screened in porch in August of 2014.. Originally the Service Representative arrived promptly and said he will give us an estimate shortly. After some time we received an estimate that was by far much higher that what they charged our neighbors for the same project. We found that the the ownership has changed and that was the cause. In March of 2015 when our house was build we asked them to give us a new estimate as we scaled back the project. The sales person came in within half and hour and was very pleasant. We thought it was a good start. He promised to give us two estimates for 2 different kind of porches the next day. We waited close to a week, and we were the ones who followed up, as we were in a rush to get all the estimates so we could hire a company and start the project asap. . After finally receiving the estimates, the sales person said the he thinks the price his subcontractor gave him was steep and he will negotiate to get a better price for us. That was the last time we heard from him. We never received the final estimate. The issue at hand is not the price as this is a subjective matter. Each homeowner gets few bids and decides what works with their budget and their wish list. What made us write this review was the complete lack of professional communication skills. When you are in a business of providing service your first skill must be solid communication skills. If you say you are going to do something - you must follow through, which was no the case with this company. While we can't comment on their workmanship, we are glad that we hired someone else. You can't just drop a ball at the initial stages of your interaction with potential client. It's hard to develop a trust for a company and let alone hire them to do the work if they are not responsive.

We take customer satisfaction seriously and we are sorry to have disappointed you. I believe their was some confusion as to time frame to start the job vs. time frame to complete the job. Based on our back log of work most of our projects of your type have a start date of 6-8 weeks from signing of the contract, weather permitting of course. This 6-8 weeks shouldn't be confused with the actual time to complete the project after it is started. The time to complete the project is different for each project and is based on complexity, and scope of the project, weather, and the length of time it takes for the appropriate jurisdiction to inspect each phase of the work. We are often at a standstill while we wait for the inspector to arrive which can cause unforeseen delays. Same way with the weather, the only usually cold and wet winter also has an adverse affect on the time it takes to complete a project. Having said all that, we sincerely apologize for not meeting your expectations and we will take your feedback seriously to ensure future customers better understand the time schedule from signing of the contract all the way through completion.

The original owner Chris Breen who had an outstanding rating with Angie's List presented an acceptable contract. Mr. Breen sold Procare Services to another individual prior to the start of our project. Mr. Breen continues to work for him. We immediately began experiencing conflicting issues and misinformation. Sub contractors were talking very negatively about the new owner and many quit, requiring other sub contractors be found to complete portions of my job. Mr. Breen took over the oversight role and coordination of my project. Mr. Breen is very caring and professional. We still have some issues that are unresolved but Mr. Breen has promised to see them through to completion. He has been very diligent with that promise and has done everything he can to complete our project to our satisfaction. Most of the subcontractors that we did work with were excellent. However many of them expressed much dissatisfaction with the new company and were planning on discontinuing working for them. As a consumer the dissatisfaction expressed by many of the workers and subcontractors made me feel very uncomfortable with the new company. I am concerned for response to future warranty issues.

Mr. [removed member's name], First and foremost we apologize for any issues you experienced during the ownership change-over. There were some bumps in the road during the transition that we had to work through, but we believe these to be way behind us at this point. While we understand how you feel rest assured any future warranty issues, if any, for any jobs started after December 15, 2013 will be dealt with professionally and in a timely manner by the new owners. As with most changes in ownership their are usually personnel changes. For example, for our customers protection we have a zero tolerance for any sub-contractor that does not carry their own workers compensation insurance and General Liability insurance. This was a problem with several of the sub-contractors that transitioned from the previous owner and as such we separated ourselves from them. I know this might seem harsh but in the construction industry we prefer to use our own employees who are covered by our insurance policies, or qualified sub-contractors who comply with all State of SC insurance requirements. Not requiring them to adhere to these requirements could lead to undesired consequences, as I am sure you can understand. Trust me, when we tell you we gave each of the previous owners sub-contractors ample time to provide proof of coverage before we stopped using them. Unfortunately, some of them chose to voice their negativity to our enhanced insurance and performance expectations. Sometimes change is difficult to accept, but some things are just to important to tolerate. Having said that, I apologize for their comments and assure you we are here for you in the event you need us. We at ProCare Services and Additions always play by the rules and we expect our employees and sub-contractors to do the same. As always, feel free to contact us or come by the office if we can assist you in any way. Kind Regards, Team ProCare (864)449-7676

Original conversations and meetings were generally good and they understood what we wanted to create a backyard outdoor living environment. After the contract was signed, they were unable to deliver agreed upon timelines and a portion of products/services stated in the signed contract. As work progressed past the original agreed upon completion time, they suggested product and layout substitutions which was difficult to acknowledge due to out of town travel and without pictures or samples. Bottom line, we were left spending many hours researching the costs of every aspect of the work (no detail in original contract), negotiating a reduced price due to Procare completing only a portion of originally contracted work and overpaying for the work completed based on several additionally attained quotes in the last 30 days. They appear to be good at being accessible to talk and certain types of improvement projects, but certainly not all work.

The initial meeting went very well. Their representative was very professional, and gave my wife and I all of the time we needed... and we anxiously awaited the estimate, but it never came. So we went with someone else. Note: We've used ProCare in the past, and we were very pleased with their work. I am sure that we just fell through the cracks somewhere in their process this time.

We were very pleased with their work. I don't exactly remember how much it cost because we had an unusual situation where we already had a canvas roof on our screened patio. But I remember that of all the estimates, they were very reasonable. I thought the job was very well done. They were very timely in keeping their appointments, they were very thorough, and the workmanship was excellent. David was just outstanding.

We did setup an appointment with him, he came out, and he was prompt and courteous. He came and gave us a very nice presentation and about three weeks later my cousin called him and he said I will get back to you in a couple of days and we have never ever heard back from that guy. I got them off of Angie's List. I would not use him. He had a good rating too and I do not know if they are just so busy, but anyway I guess he did not want the job. I do not know if he only wants to do sun rooms, may be that is more money. He was cordial and pleasant when he came for the estimate, but since then what has happened I do not know. He was prompt, punctual and professional, but then we never ever heard from him again.

Chris came out and discussed options and followed up with a quote. We were also interested in the Eze Breeze option, and asked for references for previous jobs. Chris said he would take us to see some of his work, but he did not get back to us when he said he would, then he was out of the country for a couple of weeks. There was some lack of communication, and during that time we found another company which we used for the project. Price quoted by ProCare was similar to the other company's quote, possibly slightly higher, as we decided to replace the whole deck, not just the boards. Would not discount ProCare for future work, but would likely stick with the compay who did the work for us.

I am very sorry for the poor communication during your experience with me. Unfortunately sometimes being an Owner/Operator can be difficult when a family challenge arises. The cause for my lack of communication was due to my wife and children being in the mission field in Mexico for 7 months while we were discussing your project. My wife gave birth to our 3rd child early there in Mexico and he was in the NICU with pneumonia. This is not an excuse especially in this day and age of technology, but merely my reason for the poor experience you had with me. I am truly sorry and I will improve from your comments I received here. Sincerely, Chris Breen Owner/Operator

It went great. As I said, we built a new 5400 sq. ft. house & we had problems with so many of them. There were only 4-5 companies (out of over 20) that we were satisfied with, & Procare was the best. the deck is my wife's favorite part of the house & perfect because we entertain so much.
Description of Work: They built a back deck out of Trex (11wx54l) that was above our walk-out basement. They also built our front porch. It was the newest Trex available. This was a brand new house we were having built & our builder was taking his time giving us a quote to do our deck, since it was so massive. Finally, I told him we were going to find our own people for it & we remembered Procare from the Home & Garden Show. They came out, gave an estimate that was lower than 6 others we got quotes from

It did not go anywhere at all. Even though I was quite impressed with their quote packet, their price was way too high for me. In addition, they wanted to keep the old deck frame and put new product over it. For someone with no existing deck, and a lot more money, I am sure this company would do a great job.
Description of Work: This company presents a very attractive quote, in terms of quality and professionalism. The representative was courteous and presented himself well. There were two reasons we did not hire them. First, they wanted to use the existing frame of the deck and simply put new product over it. That was absolutely unacceptable, because the 6x6 support posts were split and twisted, and the main frame structure was as bad as the deck as a whole. Second, they were the 2nd highest price, and priced themselves out of the job by quoting replacement of only part of the deck.

We contracted with Pro Care to build our 400 sf pt wood deck and they started on time as promised. It took about 10 days or so to complete. Hugo and his crew were great and responded to our slight modifications as the project progressed along. We feel they were very professional and built a quality deck for us. They were here working from morning to late afternoon, sometimes into early evening. We chose Pro Care not due to cheapest cost, which they were not, but of the professional manner that Chris Breen had during initial visit and how prepared he was in showing us the options and deck ideas. We are very happy we went with them. I would highly recommend this company to build your deck and make sure they send Hugo.

So my original review was excellent, and is included below, but the issues we had with this company after that fact have to be mentioned here to be fair to the Angie's List community. Our fence started to warp almost immediately after installation, but we assumed this was normal. 6 months later we had a warped deformed mess that was visible to our entire neighborhood. We had 6x6's that were turned, 4x4's that were turned almost 90 degrees, 80% of a 90 foot section was worthless. I had paid Pro-Care $2200 for this, and an additional $1000 for another company to stain it. I called Chris Breen, the owner, and he promptly responded and came out to look at the job. He admitted it was the worst he had ever seen, we must have gotten "bad wood", and that he would "make it right". Fast forward 6 months. Chris still had not "made it right", claiming that no wood structure is warrantied against warpage and I basically needed to suck it up. He had been unable to get his supplier or manufacturer to reimburse him, so he felt it was fair to leave me hanging out to dry. All of this after 6 months of going back and forth on his commitment to fix what he started and replace what was obviously not a normal defect. He did offer at one point to provide the labor if I purchased materials for the repair, which I declined. Why would I pay twice for a fence installation that the contractor admits is "the worst that he's ever seen"? Did I mention that I had already referred another fence job to him (right after the initial build), which he had completed, thus adding more to his bottom-line then the cost of this repair? Finally, after preparing to take Mr. Breen to small claims court, he very reluctantly agreed to replace the boards that he felt were an issue. He was very rude in person when he was here, never once taking the high road as the professional and I felt I had to constantly remind him I was only holding him to the commitments he made both verbally, and over email to fix this project. He gave direction to his crew to ONLY fix the boards that were absolutely unusable. They replaced 80% of one side, and several boards, posts, cross-beams through out the rest of the fence. The guys that actually did the work were again terrific, staying until very late in the evening to finish the job. It's amazing to me how a company with Pro Cares size and reputation can let what was probably a $500 cost repair, ruin one customer's opinion of them, which I have shared diligently with all my friends and co-workers. First Angie's List report: It was excellent. They got the job done very quickly once they started (after a slight delay). Thomas was great with communicating and getting everything cleaned up. There was an issue with the gate but they came out and fixed it immediately. Chris, the owner, is very responsive to all inquiries.
