On May 10, 2016, Mike Hill rented us a home sight unseen as my husband, and I were unable to view the home prior to our moving from another state. After working with agents from Bob Hill Realty for a few months and Mike Hill for a few weeks, we felt comfortable enough that we thought we could trust Mike Hill to help us find the right home to rent. Instead, he knowingly and willingly rented us a home that was uninhabitable and unsuitable for our needs. The house had documented black mold, mice feces, roaches, and ants. The house was not cleaned or furnished upon arrival as well as a list of other things. He also misrepresented the square footage and garage size verbally and on-line. Not only was Mike Hill deceitful, dishonest and unethical in his dealings with us, he refused to make it right. Mike Hill kept our entire security deposit and May and June’s rent, refusing to reimburse us any of it even though we were only there 4 days. He costs us thousands of dollars by forcing us to stay at a hotel until we could find a habitable and suitable housing as well as incurring more moving costs. Mike was found with three violations from the LLR (which can be read on-line on the LLR Website) and the SC Realtors. He was also fined and reprimanded by both and had to take 6.5 hours of in classroom training courses. After the long drawn out hearings which ended late 2019, I though Mike would have done the moral and ethical thing by reimbursing our security deposit and pro-rated rent money, but he did not. Mike Hill could still do the right thing by showing an act of good character and refund our money. Until then, we wanted to bring awareness of unethical business practices to the public and alerting prospective tenants and buyers to be careful with future dealings with him. The purpose of our posting is that we encourage businesses to be accountable for their actions.
