The technician was messy and unprepared. He responded to my poor air conditioning performance complaint without any refrigerant. When he realized that my system charge was low, he had to leave to retrieve refrigerant and come back. I asked him what he advised to do about checking for a leak. I asked if UV dye could be added to the system to aid in possible leak source determination as I don't want to be in the same situation again. He stated that we should "wait and see" and that adding UV dye would void the manufacturers warranty. What happens if I'm low on refrigerant again in the future? If it leaks out again? I would be forced to pay again for a lengthy and costly leak check. Picture inspecting the entire air conditioning system as if you were looking for a pinhole in a car tire. I appealed to the owner, Dave Griffin, to add the UV dye in case I do have a slow leak somewhere. He stated that he had never heard of dye voiding the manufacturers warranty and instructed the technician to install the dye. Guess what the technician doesn't have on hand... Tech. states that he doesn't believe that I have a leak, rather that the system wasn't properly filled when DGC Inc. installed it and grudgingly leaves again to pick up some UV dye. He returns a while later, UV dye in hand, and installs it into both air conditioning units. He disconnects his service line with UV dye and refrigerant under high pressure in it. The high pressure solution hits the running condenser fan and is splattered all over the inside of the air conditioning unit. He does almost nothing to clean the mess he just made and hands my wife a fluorescent yellow dye stained invoice for $315.00. The entire encounter was probably the most unprofessional I have ever witnessed, and I have seen some stuff. I ended up re-opening the access panel on the air conditioning unit and cleaning off the spilled dye with rags and solvent. Also, by the technicians own words, my whole problem was probably caused by faulty workmanship at the time of installation. This should have been covered by warranty. I thought when I was calling DGC Inc. I was calling air conditioning pros. What I got was a guy with a ladder. Unfair and unprofessional. Beware!
Description of Work: I own a dual unit HVAC system supplied and installed by DGC Inc. in May of 2012. This month (August 2013) I noticed that the upstairs unit was not cooling well. DGC Inc. technician determines that the system is 1 lb. low on refrigerant and states that he believes that they didn't get it properly filled at the time of installation. Owner Dave Griffin refuses to warranty the refrigerant and service on a $7500 system that his company installed 15 months ago. Additional cost today was $315 for refrigerant, diagnostic and labor.

Response from DGC Inc.
The HVAC system was not installed for [removed member name]. It was installed under contract with a different homeowner. The workmanship guarantee to the original homeowner was for 12 months. There was no guarantee given to [removed member name], because he was not the owner of the property. Also, as [removed member name] stated, the breakdown call came in after the HVAC system had been operating for 15 months(the original guarantee was for 12 months). Therefore, [removed member name] was way out of line by posting a complaint over something that did not involve him. He tried posting a complaint with the BBB as well, but they refused to allow the complaint to post because of the reasons listed above. I'm glad the BBB took time to review the "FACTS" before allowing an illegitimate complaint to post. [removed member name] has also fabricated lies about the events associated with the service technician as well. That shouldn't be hard to believe, considering that he attempted to include himself in another person's contract, that had an expired guarantee. Therefore, his complaint should not be valid, and it should not be allowed to post.

The house is old (1950's) and, since I bought and moved in October of 2010, I have been alarmed during the heating season at the loud boom that occurs when the furnace turns on. I finally decided to have someone out and hopefully fix this frightening problem. B&G, an affiliate of DGC, Inc., came out the same day and told me the heat exchanger was rusted through and the whole unit was in sorry shape. From the serial numbers he could tell that the equipment was installed in 1983. He told me he would have someone work up a price and get back to me. I got a call the following day from David of DGC, Inc. and he came out to evaluate the situation in order to provide a price quote. After speaking with David of DGC, Inc. and watching how he and his team worked, I felt confident he would deliver and get the job done right. He and one member of his team got started that Thursday morning but ran into some bad duct work at the inflow vents. He was apologetic and said that he had not foreseen that problem but would still stand by his price for the unit and installation. He told me he would be back the next day, or if it rained like it was supposed to, he would return on Saturday. It did rain that Friday but his team showed up promptly on Saturday and began the ductwork repairs under the house. My heat continued to run until later that day when they needed to shut it down and connect up the new system. I was without heat for maybe an hour to an hour and a half. They finished up, cleaned up and, viola, I have a new system. He showed me the evaporator coil and it also was completely rusted through. My heat and cooling bills have been nearly $200 a month on a 1600 sq ft bungalow. He said I may see those cut in half because the old system was in such bad shape. I am hoping so. My furnace is going on less often and there is actually warm air coming out of the registers. I will have to get use to the sound of warm air whoosing up through the vents. I can't recall ever hearing that since I moved in last year. David from DGC, Inc. called me this morning to check on the system and to see if I was having any problems. That is good customer service and I appreciate the call.
