Carolina Pool Renovations

Our experience with CPR was mixed. First, this company is very knowledgeable and builds a high-quality pool. The finished product looks great, and our interactions with the crews were always pleasant. Communication was generally timely. They also provide startup services and "pool school" which take the stress out of the first month or so of owning a new pool. However, our beautiful new pool came at a very high cost--and I want potential future customers to be aware. The contract with CPR stipulates that they are not responsible for damage done to driveways. In signing this, I expected some damage to the area they used for staging materials and, sure enough, two squares of my roughly 250-foot long driveway were scraped and crushed on the edges. This was totally understandable and acceptable. When delivering dirt, one of CPR's subcontractors drove down the lip of the driveway (half a tire on, half a tire off) for the full length of the 250-feet of concrete. In so doing, half of the driveway is now cracked and/or crushed and needs to be replaced. There is also a healthy rut in the lawn from where the driver completely missed the concrete. Shortly after this happened, I asked Mr. Ball to come to the house so we could review the status of the project. At that time, I showed him the damage. He took pictures of the damage and made some comments about the driver and situation which I inferred meant there would be some remedy to the problem. Once the project was complete, I asked about the driveway situation. I made clear I was not asking for CPR to fix it completely, but since the damage was caused by negligence, I thought there would be some compromise on a solution. On the contrary, in a series of exchanges, I was told CPR cannot be responsible for the quality of the driveway (no driveway would withstand a fully laden truck driving on the lip) and that I could take it up with the trucking company (this is not the business with whom I had a relationship). Ultimately, I accept that CPR has no legal responsibility to fix the driveway. That said, good business ethics mandates that a company take responsibility for avoidable damage caused by negligence--not hiding behind a contract. I won't tell potential customers to avoid this company. As I said, you will get a good quality, beautiful pool. But DO NOT let them use your driveway. Insist on another access point or redline that portion of the contract. That $100k pool will could end up costing 10-20% more.

Scott came out, looked everything over and explained in detail what each piece of equipment should do, how it should function and what needed to be done to get things running properly. He gave us an estimate which was exactly what we paid after the work was done in a timely, efficient manner. Subsequently Scott and his team, including his son Austin have taken over weekly maintenance of our pool and we could not be happier with their professionalism, attention to detail and prompt communication with us. They are fabulous and we are SO glad to have found them!

Crew was very conscientious and kept the work site clean and orderly. The kept the work site as clean as would have had I done the work...I mean that as high praise!

Scott Ball and crew resurfaced our pool two years ago. The work was initiated and completed on schedule and we have been very happy with the result ever since. We also contracted his services for weekly maintenance and occasional repairs. Austin Ball performs our weekly service. He is dependable, courteous, conscientious and professional. A+ all the way around.

Great from start to finish. Showroom visit to choose materials, lots of samples, sound advice. Reno process was painless and turned out beautiful. Showed up when they said they would, daily email updates. On site crew were careful, respectful, skilled.

I cannot say enough good things about Scott and his crew. We had this pool put in when we built our house in 2009. The original installer informed us the leak was not a warranty issue since the vessel was intact. I went with another company who did a horrible job trying to fix the problem but made things worse in the process. That's when I called in Scott who came highly recommended from someone we know. He's not the cheapest but you get what you pay for. He ended up tearing out the waterfall feature between the spa and the pool (source of the water leak) as well as the pebble-tec surface of the pool and spa finding more and more issues of shoddy workmanship of the original contractor. He also replaced our original skimmer which was cracked as well as the new skimmer which was improperly installed by the other company. His crew did a great job. Very professional and neat. I was very impressed with Scott keeping us up to date during this whole process.

They did an excellent job. They were very helpful with picking out the finishes and the design. They were very professional. Scott (owner) is very knowledgeable with all aspects of pools. We had a very old pool but Scott was able to overcome a lot of obstacles to give us a beautiful finished product. We get so many compliments!

Scott was very organized. He gave me updates and kept me informed throughout the project. He made suggests to make things even better, but I was given the option to keep things in my price range. Excellent experience!

I had the luxury of nearly 2 years of planning for this reno because I knew it would be costly and I had to save up for it. So I interviewed and got quotes from nearly all of the major pool companies in Charlotte. Scott stood out for several reasons: 1) Honesty- He didn't try to upsell me on something I didn't need nor try to push inferior materials. Scott is just an honest man running a family business (with his wife and now his son) and their reputation means a lot to them. 2) Knowledge-This guy knows pretty much everything there is to know about pools. Of all the people I interviewed he was the ONLY person who told me that the pool would have to sit for a month after the new concrete was added to the deep end before the quartz surface could be applied. If we had added the quartz surface to fresh concrete, it would have cracked within a couple of years. 3) Price- Scott was a couple of thousand dollars less expensive than the next closest quote and on top of that, he gave me an Angie's List discount. Oddly enough, he used subcontractors from another pool company that I had interviewed and he was $2000 less than the price the other pool company quoted me if I had used them directly. I think that says he is not marking up labor exorbitantly. 4) Professionalism- You really don't know how this is going to pan out until the work is under way, but we had really good communication, the crew always arrived on time and cleaned up after themselves and were easy to have around. The pool reno turned out amazingly well and the pool is now a focal point of my back yard rather than the eyesore it had become. I would definitely hire Scott again and would recommend that anyone looking to build or repair their in-ground pool should add Scott and CPR Pools to their short list to interview.

I received this company's information from a friend, who contracted Scott. From day one of our meeting and scope of work to be performed, I noted his thoroughness, punctuality, professionalism, and expertise. He didn't just TALK to me, or throw out his "pitch" , he explained everything in detail, made suggestions, and "the reasons, and why's", of the aforementioned. The work was performed as per the contract, in a very timely manner. I was always kept abreast of the progress and scheduling. Workmanship was excellent, and above all, they cleaned the area as if nothing occurred. I would not hesitate to use Carolina Pool Renovations again.

This is a greatest company and Scott Ball is also the greatest. Pool completed on time and yes we would hire him again. Always keeps his promise and goes that extra mile for you.

Overall experience is outstanding. Scott is professional and has a hard working crew. Scott took the time to explain the scope of the work needed and answered all of my questions. The quality of the work is excellent and his support is beyond exceptional. Scott is always prompt on his responses to text or calls and is thorough in his answers. Since the pool repair (two years ago) I have on occasion texted him a general question about my pool and he still responds promptly offering detailed answers and advice when needed. Recently I had an issue and we shared text over multiple days across a week as he gave me trouble shooting ideas. I eventually solved the issue thanks to his help. People like Scott are hard to find. I strongly recommend him for pool repair or new pool installations.

CPR did a great job of designing a fire pit in the area where my damaged spa needed to be removed. They also did a great job refinishing my pool with a pebble product. The complaints that I have with this company are all related to their travertine and paver work. As part of our contract, we agreed to have them clean and re-sand our existing paver pool deck. We also agreed to have them re-sand with a polymeric sand. When they were done, I noticed several bad cuts and high and low spots where the pavers were butted to the coping. My biggest concern was that there was polymeric sand EVERYWHERE! The sand was not properly swept into the joints before it was wetted in, so now I have sand joints like the ones in the attached pics. There is also alot of sand hardened on the smooth surface of the pavers, so now its like walking on sandpaper. There is also alot of grey sand in the natural pores of my expensive silver travertine. Another issue is I now have the splotchy appearance that you see in the pics below as well. I called Scott at CPR who came out and made an attempt to corredct the problem. I could tell no difference and he told me thats the best they could do and he thought it looked fine. Knowing I was on my own to solve the problem, I contacted the manufacturer of the sand and they sent a field rep out to look at my issues. They basically agreed that the problem was caused by sand being left on the smooth surfaces of many of the pavers. Also, the manufacturer recommends brushing off residual sand and using a compactor to insure the sand is in the joints and 1/8 inch below the smooth surface of the pavers. As you can see in my pics, this obviously was not done on my project. In summary, I would use these guys again to refinish a pool...but would not let them do any pool deck work involving pavers or rounded cuts.

We purchased a home that had a huge unground pool that was built in 1955 that needed a complete renovation including new equipment , repairs and replaster. CPR was not the cheapest of the 4 estimates nor the most expensive. We chose CPR because we felt very comfortable with their ability and Scott, the owner was very honest and upfront. We felt comfortable with the scope of work he felt we needed....we never felt like he was trying to up sell us anything. Scott's crew was very professional and the cleanest of any contractors I have ever worked with. They cleaned up any mess made as they went along. I am a very skeptical person due to negative experiences with contractors in the past so I questioned a lot along the way. Scott and his crew were very patient with me and always took the time to explain everything to my satisfaction. I can not say enough great things about this company!!

This type of professionalism and customer service is hard to find and I can't thank Scott enough and hope his father is recovering well. The following message is from Scott himself and speaks for itself. " If the shaft turns and the impellar does not sometimes the impeller sheers away from the shaft and you will need a new impeller - unfortunately I can't assist you right now. My father just had a massive stroke and we are working on family and what is needed for him and my mom. Please contact Precision Pool Care as I know they can assist you. Scott came out quickly to our call , spent slot of tone measuring and discussing our needs. Received contract in timely fashion, then we changed s few things l. He was quick to respond to e nails and amend contract. Gave us s start date and his crew was here working hard . we were up and running in 2 days but couldn't go in until chemicals balanced Looks great and enjoying the pool

Scott, the owner, is an incredibly reliable, honest and knowledgeable man. He was able to help us plan our pool area renovation and offered incredibly helpful suggestions. He also worked with me to figure out how to best control expenses. He responded promptly to all of my questions, put me in touch with clients who had done similar projects (at my request), and we were able to start the work as soon as the materials were available. His crew was hard working, polite and very eager to please. The project took roughly 4 weeks to complete due to the detailed nature of the work and the horrible weather we had during that time. They did their best to stay on schedule and communicated well about any changes. The project looks beautiful and I feel like the work was very well executed. We liked Scott and his team so much we are now using them to maintain our pool.

He was professional, on time, and gave me the information I needed to make a decision. He also gave me the name of another provider.
