Mr. Whitley seemed to be quite knowledgeable in his trade. However, for whatever reason, he did not get back to us on the estimate that we requested.
Description of Work: We scheduled an appointment with ARS via Home Depot for the installation of a heating and a/c system in our house. Ronnie Whitley was the representative that came by to do the estimate. We spent approximately an hour going over the house plans and talking about the available systems they offer. He said that he would be back in touch within a week with an estimate on the installation and materials. We have yet to hear from Mr. Whitley. We have since gotten an estimate from another company and have written off ARS. While I am not happy writing a negative review for ARS, Mr. Whitley is a direct representative of the company. As such, the company has received the negative review. Please understand that this was for an estimate for work to be done so we cannot rate the company's work, only the customer service of the representative that we dealt with.

It turned out really well. The guy was very knowledgable and I was pleased with the information he gave me and what he did.
Description of Work: My A/C was having a problem. They came out to service the unit and said either my system was out of freon or I had a leak. They were very honest with me and came out the next day and gave me a quote on a new system.

It was beautiful. They did a great job. It was a good experience. They came when they said they would and installed the unit. They then cleaned up any mess that they made. We didn't have any complaints with the service they provided.

I bought an Amana AC unit from Brothers in 2004.. By 2007 I was having to have service calls once or twice a year with everything from burned out wiring to compressor failure to relays, shorted heater coils, etc. The Amana company had subsequently become Goodman and despite many requests directly to Goodman to help me with this sub par unit, it fell on deaf ears. Brothers came out multiple times to fix, test, repair and submit additional data to Goodman. As of today I have a brand new unit from Brothers NOT Goodman at Brothers expense to maintain my customer satisfaction. I have not been charged a dime through 8 years of service calls, measurements, etc. to finally resolve this issue... I highly recommend Brothers, They are courteous, thorough, helpful and stand by their customers to ensure satisfaction!!!

Horrible. We will never all them again.
Description of Work: Our A/C broke on a Sunday and we called Brothers, who claims to be available 24/7. We told them our A/C was broken and they said the earliest they could come out was the following Wednesday. Are you kidding me?!? So much for their "24/7" responsiveness.

The installers were prompt and completed the installation the same day as stated. There was an issue concerning where Brothers installed the furnace exhaust. The installer did not consult me about the location of the exhaust vent prior to installing it. Installation required cutting hole in a brick wall on the backside of the house where it would be a visible eye sore when using outside. I pointed this out about a month later; Brothers promptly returned to move the exhaust vent to the proper location on the side of the house and repaired all damaged due to installation at the back of the house.
Description of Work: Brothers removed old downstairs part of split HVAC, and installed a new system.

Description of Work: I had Brother's out to replace a main water supply line, a main irrigation line and adding a pressure reducing valve as required now by code. The City of Charlotte had dug up the sidewalk and ruptured both lines on my side of the property so I had water leaking and a huge mess in the front yard. Brothers did a great job - communicating what the process would look like, arriving and finishing on time and doing it for a reasonable price. I bid it to four contractors and they were #2 but the low bidder had terrible BBB ratings so I went with Brother's (and negotiated which they adjust pricing). Overall, I was very pleased with the job. There were a couple of minor issues after it was complete that I wanted addressed and they came out promptly to resolve them without any additional cost (ex. taking the irrigation system off of the pressure reducing value so I would get better pressure to water my lawn). Overall, I was very satisfied. This was actually the second time I've used them (I bought a new heating & cooling system from them a year ago) and I've found them to be very professional, great on communication. High reccomend!

Having used Brothers (out of Rock Hill) since 2008, I was a PMC (Premium Maintenance Club) member -- "top priority, most important customer, you come first". Since switching to them from another company, I did notice that almost every time they came to service my heat & air (twice a year), they suggested something else that I "needed" (my house & system are 10 yrs. old). However, I had been pleased w/their service & continued to use them since the whole family (my sister & 2 nieces) did so w/o any problems . On the evening of 4/16/2012, I noticed my AC was on, but not cooling. When I called, they told me to shut it off & they would be out in the a.m. (it was 80 degrees in my house that night). Upon arriving the next day, the technician turned the system on & a very loud banging noise was emitting from the outdoor unit (condensor) -- it had never done that before. We went together to investigate & he said it was my compressor & it needed to be replaced -- $2657 -- that's w/my 20% discount! He went on to say it would be cheaper to get a whole new system -- approx. $6000 (again, that's w/my 20% discount). Another technician could come out for a more accurate quote, if I was interested. I told him I needed to make some calls before proceeding & he left -- again, I had no AC (& it was warming up outside). I called a friend who referred me to another company (Adkins Heat & Air of Rock Hill) w/whom he was very pleased w/work he had done on his offices). They were local, family-run & owned, 40 yrs. in business -- & they sent someone out immediately. The technician found the compressor was fine (!), but it needed 2 lbs. of freon -- obviously, a leak somewhere. He also cleaned the coils & charged me $218.97 -- AND the AC worked fine after that. I then had the owner come out for a quote to replace the system - $4363. I ultimately had them replace my system on 5/16/2012 & have never been so impressed w/a company: punctual, knowledgeable, professional, clean, efficient -- the system was in & working in approx. 3 hrs. The old system was hauled off & my home was left clean, as though no work had been done. Needless to say, as a result of my experience, all 4 of our households are now switching over to Adkins Heat & Air -- it's no wonder they don't advertise -- they don't need to! Outstanding in every way -- so long, Brothers!

The service was fair but their prices are horrible. I later found out from another vendor that Brothers charged me double for refrigerant vs what other vendors are charging. I will not recommend or use them again.

AMy husband and I were very pleased with the options the salesman presented us. After we chose the product the installation was performed in a very timely fashion. The new heat pump has done very well over the few months that we have had it. Brothers has been doing semi-annual maintenance on our two units for at least 13 years. (We've been in our 40 year old house nearly 20 years). They installed our old heat pump, and about 5 months later something stopped up in the unit that was installed in our attic. Water was involved, and although we discovered the problem almost immediately (we were fortunate to be home!), the ceiling of the room immediately below was damaged. We called the Brothers service line that evening (it was about 7 pm when we noticed the problem), and they had a technician there within the hour. He did a short-term fix. Within a week other technicians came and looked at the problem and decided that a piece had been defective, but that the drip pan also should have been larger. They fixed both, then advised me to send them the bill after having the ceiling repaired and repainted. They offered us free bi-annual service on the unit, and we were so impressed with their responsiveness we purchased the same plan for the gas-pack that heats and cools the first floor of our home. Heating/cooling problems always happen on the coldest or hottest days of the year (ours always get noticed at night!), and they have always gotten a technician there the same night. I would probably have been a better consumer if I had done some comparison-shopping on price for the new heat pump, but I honestly have been so pleased with the Brothers service over the years I just called them. A previous contractor sold us a gas-pack 15 years ago that developed a broken heat-exchanger within two years. At that point they told us it would be cheaper to replace the unit (thousands of dollars) than to have it repaired. The explanation was that although the part was warrantied, the labor was not. At that point I did shop around and found Brothers prices and sales approach most attractive. We're loyal customers now.

I had researched tankless water heaters on-line and already knew the make and model I wanted. (Noritz NRC98-OD) I called Brothers to get an installation quote. The Brother's representative was punctual, friendly and very knowledgeable. We discussed tank location options and trade-offs of each location. I do not doubt that the company would have performed excellent work and stood behind the product and their installation of it. However, the Brother's quote (even after a $500 'discount'), was almost $1,500 higher than the company I went with. In addition, according to the Noritz website at that time, Brothers was listed as a 'Gold' installer of Noritz products. The company I went with was listed as 'Platinum', ie, had done more installs and thus had more experience with the product. Even so, if the quotes had been close, I would definitely have considered Brothers.

Tech was very knowledgeable and had the heart of a teacher, explaining everything as he proceeded. Very happy with service and professionalism. Heat works fine.
Description of Work: I have a monthly service agreement with Brothers. They called for my free semi-annual inspection and service. Coincidentally the heat did not seem to be performing as well as the past. After cleaning and adjusting outdoor heat pump and airhandler in crawlspace, the tech found that only one of the two heating elements was working. Tech told me what the reports on his test equipment would be reading before he performed the heating element and it was so. He replaced the element and discounted the part per the inspection service list, a 1/3 savings..

My biggest problem is that the final solution could have cost me 1200 dollars to replace the control board and i have no idea how much they would have charged for the vacuum switch. I was not pleased with the feeling of highway robbery because my heater was broken on Christmas eve. To top it all off when went under the house to look gather more info prior to ordering the new part i found screws that were not reinstalled properly and duct sealing tape that was removed and not put back on leaving holes in my supply line. His entire attitude changed when I told him I would not be buying a control board for 1,200.00 dollars. He did offer to have someone contact me to install a new system for somewhere in the neighborhood of $15,000.00. I told him no thank you.
Description of Work: Initial diagnostics to determine the problem with my heater only running for a few minutes and then shutting down. The technician arrived on time and everything started off professional and courteous. He went under the house to look at the system and i followed him under to see for myself what was wrong. The first thing he told me was he would see what he could do as my heater was 16 years old. I pointed to the data stamp inside the unit as well as showed him the install date receipt that showed the unit was only 11 years old. His final recommendation was to install a new control board for $1,100.00 on top of the 99 i had already spent. I went online and found a control board, direct replacement, for 199. Ordered the new control board and installed it. Same problem persisted. The diagnostics light on the new control board, old board did not have diagnostics light, said it was a bad vacuum switch. I ordered a new vacuum switch for 59 and installed it and the unit has been running since with no issue.

1-of my water heaters was not working so i called Brothers. They arrived within a few hours (great response time) I was advised that my water heater was at the end of its life. It's 8- years old. I expressed an interest in tankless. Had them give me an estimate for replacing both units. I decided that the cost didn't make sense so I called back and asked them to requote me for just replacing 2-50 gal gas water heaters. The tone immediately changed. It went from professional to rude. Then gave me a price of $1600 per water heater to do a exact replacement? Water heaters costing $500-600 I asked if $1000 per unit was correct they responded very negatively yes. So I decided not use Brothers and passes this information on to upper management within the company so they would know about the unprofessional service. I wrote the sales manager and got a we will pass it on to his supervisor, Not a thank you or a call or nothing so for a company that prides itself on service be very careful if you use them in the future.

All was good. They will always explain in detail how the unit is working and what to keep an eye on if it is an older unit.
Description of Work: As a club member ($18.99/month), they do a free check of heating in the fall. Service person came to check to make sure all was working well before I needed to use my heating in the winter.

Overall have been satisfied with the level of service and the company's responsiveness when I called for plumbing service. The company is proactive with respect to scheduling the semi-annual HVAC inspections and service.
