I met with the field sales reps (several meetings) and the manager. These guys are just really good salespeople with a "generic and redundant" understanding of lawn treatment. If you need someone who understands the unique challenges of Lowcountry lawn care, keep shopping. I want to win "lawn of the month!"

Response from Weed Man Charleston
When we meet with potential clients, we educate them as best as we can as to what's going on with their lawn and options that might help them achieve their desired outcome. It was noted that Ms. [Member Name Removed]' front yard had been resodded a few times (by the way, if you're re-sodding multiple times, the grass is not happy with its environment), that she had a half inch of thatch (roots like to live in dirt, not thatch), the ground was compacted, and a variety of weeds were present. Ms. [Member Name Removed] didn't go with the cheapest, most basic program, but she also didn't sign up for the Full Monty. Our salesmen are fantastic. They educate the potential customer and let the customer make a decision as to whether or not they would like to team up with Weed Man and which, if any, applications they would like beyond our basic program. Ms. [Member Name Removed] received her first treatment on 07/06/18. Ms. [Member Name Removed] received 6 treatments within that time, which included a slow-release granular fertilizer treatment, a slow release liquid fertilizer, a season-long chinch bug control, two grub controls, an organic soil enhancement, two separate weed control visits, and two separate surface insect control treatments (please note that multiple products can be applied on a single visit). To a lay(wo)man, those treatments might seem like it should do the trick to achieve perfection. However, depending on a lawn's current condition and environment, improving it can take 3 months, a year, or heck, 5 years if you have setbacks from Mother Nature during that time. Grass wants to grow, but you have to give it an environment in which it wants to thrive. Ms. [Member Name Removed] took advantage (not in a negative way) of our free service calls and called us on two separate occasions. On 08/29/18 and on 09/24/18. After visiting her yard on 08/30/18, we backpack sprayed a free disease control to trouble spots in the backyard (not in her program. It was on us because we really like to help people!) to help protect her zoysia. She took one of our options to help invigorate her turf and ordered the organic soil enhancement on 8/30/18. Both the Bermuda in the front and the zoysia in the back responded very well to that application and our production manager noted how much growth the zoysia was producing during the visit on 9/25/18. That's when things went downhill in our relationship. Our owner and production manager visited her lawn after receiving an urgent message on 9/24/18 (to which swear words were used directed towards an employee) to inspect the backyard and advise. Before they were able to get to her lawn on 9/25/18, she called the office with a flustered tone, confirming they were going to be there. Soon after the phone call, they arrived on the lawn to meet with Ms. [Member Name Removed]. They pointed out the erosion in the backyard and tried to figure out where exactly the water source to cause the erosion was coming from. They suggested Ms. [Member Name Removed] watch the environment from the window during a heavy rain to hopefully learn what was causing the erosion problem. Ms. [Member Name Removed] also demanded no weeds, perfect green, lush, and uniform throughout from edge to edge. We get it it. That's why Weed Man exists. Some weeds are harder to kill than others and might require spot sprays between our usual visits. There are billions of weed seeds in the dirt that always want to grow. We also have to take into consideration the age of the turf. New sod is treated differently than an established lawn. To achieve Ms. [Member Name Removed]' ideal lawn, time and patience are necessary. When pressed with the question, "how much money will it take to fix my yard? I want it perfect," our owner responded, "perfect? That's difficult to achieve." She proceeded to say "you know what I mean. You twisted my words." Our owner said "Words have meaning (that's a slogan in our office) and you said 'perfect.' You may need a gardener or someone who can tend to your lawn every week. I don't think we're the company for you." End scene (after a few more profanities from Ms. [Member Name Removed]). It's too bad we couldn't satisfy her needs and get along better. We just can't work with people that swear at us and are unreasonable. If she does decide to use another lawn care company, we'd like for her to know that it can take a very long time and might take many different approaches to improve her lawn. Mother Nature is tricky. She changes every second. We'd also like to suggest that Ms. [Member Name Removed] keep this experience in mind and for her to treat any future companies with kindness.
