My experience with Rick DeVries and his company, East Coast Roofing could not have possibly been any better. Rick is extremely professional and is committed to quality materials and workmanship. I received 5 quotes from different roofing companies in association with the need for the re-roofing of our townhome in downtown Charleston. East Coast's price, while not the absolute lowest, was very fair, and Rick was very responsive to my questions and concerns. I felt as though I could have gone with either of a couple of different firms, but feel extremely fortunate to have selected East Coast Roofing. Rick and his employees were punctual, neat, efficient and professional. I could not give them a more enthusiastic referral and given another need, I would not consider using any business other than East Coast Roofing for a future roofing project.
Description of Work: secured permits and coordinated activities with neighbors in advance of project work....removed old shingles, removed 2 old "eyesore" turbines, installed new felt, replaced select roof decking (plyboard), installed new archetectural shingles (6 nails), installed and wired new power turbine and painted the turbine (and also pipes) flat black to blend with the new shingle color. Hauled away refuse and cleaned up entirely, including stray nails.

Everything went as planned, and they went out of their way to find high-quality translucent panels to roof the back porch. Almost finished job in one day, but darkness caught up with them. The owner came over the next day (a Saturday) to finish the job and do a second clean-up. They left no debris in the yard. The only way you could tell workman had been there was by looking up and seeing a new roof. The price for the roof was a little higher than our other estimates, but they were the only company willing to go to the trouble of roofing the porch and their professionalism more than made up for the price difference.
Description of Work: Replaced roof, installed cap on ridge vent, removed two turbines and a number of unused vents, repaired facia and flashing where needed, replaced translucent panels on back porch.

Job was done in a day and one half. As promised. They were on time, made good contact, followed up, price was as agreed. They came back the next day to patch a few holes in siding where they had to remove to reflash, and even brough paint and painted all nails and places where the trim had been removed. They have a written 10 year leak guarantee on labor.
Description of Work: East Coast did a complete reroof of 39 squares of shingles on my two story colonial home. Included removal of old shingles, reflash chimmney and dormers. Installed new Landmark shingles from Cerainteed, limited lifetime warrenty. Hauled off all debris. In addition to reroof, they removed all the old trim from three dormers, reflashed, and installed water tight underlayment on corners. This was only done after an onsite review when the old shingles were removed. This was agreed before hand and to be done only if the condition requred it. It did. It was charged based on the pre estimate of $1620. That is included in the $9700 total. They did a super job of protecting all property, clean up was special, they even raked half my yard.

Rick was very professional from the very beginning. The estimate process was quick and painless and he didn't come across as a salesman. The initial work was done, and when I had asked about replacing underlying plywood which had been recommended, he did so without complaint and without asking for any additional money. This was comparably a small job as opposed to a whole roof, but Rick and his team didn't treat me any different.
Description of Work: I had a leak around one of the dormers on my roof. I had 4 different companies come and give estimates. Rick came out promptly to give an estimate and was through in his inspection of the problem. The quote was in the lower range of the estimates I collected. The work was done quickly and to my satisfaction. They removed some shingles and flashing, replaced the plywood underneath, then replaced the flashing and a small part of the shingles (which they matched to my existing roof color).

Since we live in Chicago, we were very concerned about handling this project over the phone. Rick and his wife Helen were extremely accomodating, professional and a pleasure to work with. There were two colors to choose from and they provided us with web sites for both so we could determine which tile/color was best suited for our place. They worked with the regime and handled obtaining all permits so we did not have to get involved. Our neighbors kept us updated and told us how impressed they were with the quality of the work, professionalism of the workers and great cleanup job. When we finally got down there in January, we were thrilled with the end result.
Description of Work: We purchased a Villa on Seabrook Island and had to have the roof replaced. We used Angie's List to identify potential companies. After interviewing several companies and obtaining quotes, we decided to use East Coast Roofing. The old roof had to be removed, all of the wood had to be inspected and all of the vents had to be replaced on both the Villa and the shed. We also had the venting in our bathrooms and kitchen re-routed to go directly outside.

Called and requested that someone come out and take a look at leak in my roof. Rick and his crew did an outstanding job. Rick presented me with an estimate and that is what it cost. I actually wrote a check for $180 more than the estimate ($7040). He called me from the office and said they found an error in the caculations and wrote me a check for the $180 error. Rick has great intregrity and honesty. He treats a home owner like it's his honor to do the work for you. He is truly a professional. He is on time and he tells you what is going on with the work. And best of all.....the clean-up. Our new roof looks great! Great job! I was at ease with Rick. Somtimes you wonder if you have chosen the right contractor to do a job for you. You don't have to worry about a thing when you choose Rick & East Coast Roofing.
Description of Work: Removed old shingles, Installed new felt. Installed new shingles 30yr. "Certainteed" shingles (color Moire Black). Installed new chase top. Installed shingles with 6 nails per shingle. Installed COBRA III "cap over" ridge vent on entire roof. Reflashed chimney. reflash brick over front door. Installed new pip collars on all plumbing vents. Cleaned up and hauled debris. Replaced (2) sheets of plywood at $60/ sheet. Removed 142' of gutter and downspout.

I was looking to replace my very old and worn out roof. I was given Rick Devries name (owner of East Coast Roofing) by a neighbor who recently had his roof repaced by East Coast Roofing. His mother also used East Coast Roofing to replace her roof two times. He was highly recommened by this neighbor. I also looked up East Coast Roofing on Angie's list and all the reviews were excellent! I gave Rick a call and he came out and inspected my roof and emailed me a proposal for work to be done. After reviewing his proposal and other roofing company proposals I went with East Coast Roofing. They were about the same price. I liked Rick's honesty and professionalism. He was right on the job supervising his workers. Any concerns I had Rick quickly addressed them. I had many questions and he answered them all. The roof took one day to install. Everything was cleaned up the same day. The skylight glass was installed the following week by a glass company under Rick's supervision. (Rick saved me alot of money by not telling me I had to install new skylights he inspected the skylights and told me only the glass had to be replaced as the seal was broken.) Other roofing companies told me I had to replace the entire skylight which could cost as much as $2400 just for the 3 skylights not including installation. He was on the job not like some roofing companies who send out a salesman to sell you the roof and then you never see them again. His workmanship guarantee is for 10 years if leakage occurs withn 10 years due to workmanship the roof is reparied by East Coast Roofing at his expense! Also he gave me a senior citizen's discount. Angie's List also had a coupon. He honored them both. I highly recommend East Coast Roofing Company and would use them again.
Description of Work: Removed old shingles, installed new felt, installed new 30 year architectural shingles, installed new pipe collars, installed new ridge vent, replaced glass only in 3 skylights, reflashed chimney, replaced 4 sheets of plywood.

We were very pleased with East Coast Roofing. Mr. Devries had our problem fixed within just a few short days of us calling (he would have finished in a day but weather prevented him from being able to do the job). His price was extremely reasonable and he was a pleasure to talk too. A great experience overall!

Rick was conscientious about getting to our job as soon as possible, even though it was relatively small. He was very knowledgeable and exacting in his work. He and his helper cleaned up well after they were finished. He also helped us out by installing a lint vent my husband had made to replace the dryer vent on the 2nd floor that had been a problem because it clogged easily.
Description of Work: We had damage to our roof (Spanish style manufactured cement tile) from branches breaking tiles during high winds. Rick did the following: removed and replaced the damaged maxi-tile, cut back closures and installed new closures as necessary and cleaned and sealed copper valley to ridge termination. It was difficult to assess the price of this job because we only interviewed two roofers.

Very efficient. Highly professional. Went above and beyond. I was very pleased and have not had any problems since the repair. I also used him about 7 years prior to this call on a roofing leak that had not been on going for about 12 years. Without exaggeration I probably had 6-8 roofers that said they repaired the problem. Rick was the only one that handled this for me and was also the most reasonable. He solved the problem. I would not let anyone work on my roof other than Rick.

Description of Work: Rick actually did work on my office as well as my home. On the office I had a leak without exaggeration for about 12 years. I probably had 6 roofers that worked on the job and Rick was the only one that resolved my leak, and he was also the most reasonable. I had a significant porch leak on my home and again Rick did a superb job. Many rains have since passed and no leaks. He is a great guy, and I give him an A+.

Excellent experience. When Rick did some roof repair work for us 1.5 years ago, he had given us an estimated time we had left on our old, mid-quality roof, and provided a rough idea of cost to replace it. When we called for the replacement, he came out and inspected, and provided a written estimate that was a bit higher than the rough idea a year and a half ago, but close. He dropped by some sample shingles for us to choose a color. We scheduled the work, and it was completed very quickly (one day for the entire roof, with some remaining clean up the next day because it got dark). We had one "oops" when a tool dropped through the open roof when they replaced the plywood, and punched a hole in our bathroom ceiling. Rick had it repaired by a professional painter within a couple of days and ensured we were satisfied before collecting payment for the roof. Excellent job!

Rick came out last week to measure and give us an overview of what he would do. Two day later we had a written estimate and warranty. On monday the 25th we picked out the shingles we wanted and 3 days later we had our new roof. It took them one day to do the entire roof and it looks fantastic. Rick is friendly, his price is more than fare. I would recommend East Coast Roofing to anyone who is looking to have a roof replaced. You couldn't ask for better.

He was thorough in explaining that railings would need to be removed to do proper roofing. I got permission not to replace them. He proceeded to do the work. There were some plywood sheets he needed to replace and he did some painting where the railings had been. Extra charge was very reasonable. He was enjoyable to work with. Would highly recommend.

Rick came out the same day and gave me an estimate for the repair on our roof. Our home is just shy of 5 years old and our roof seemed to be leaking into the ceiling in the FROG. Rick said that it just needed to be repaired, as opposed to being replaced so we went with him. This seemed reasonable since our home is not old and at this point having the ridge vents replaced was not necessary nor within our budget. His estimate was $180 and it was right on target. Just a little less than two weeks later, Rick repaired the roof and I can only assume from conversations with him and from reviews that he did what he said he would do (I'm not heading up to the tallest peak on our roof to check!) We spoke at length about his business when he stopped by to do the estimate so I felt comfortable with his integrity to do the job as he said he would.
Description of Work: Needed our ridge vent repaired because a section of our ceiling in the FROG was stained from water damage. We received quotes from two of the highest rated roofers on Angie's List. Rick repaired the roof within two weeks and told me that if we had any problems with it to give him a call.

Another company (Tri-County Roofing) was hired in February 2008 to fix the problem but the leak started again in August - this time much worse. I called Tri-County back, and they sent a couple of young workers who quickly "identified the problem" and charged me $250 to "fix it." They said the problem was with a vent on the screen porch roof. They spent about 15 minutes on the roof and left. They also said we needed a new roof. Tropical Storm Hannah came through two days later and water was steadily trickling down the wall and into the fireplace in the den. I called East Coast Roofing based on their claims to specialize in leaks. The owner, Rick DeVries, came by that evening. He considered all alternatives before making a recommendation. He did the work himself and called to check on our satisfaction. We haven't had a significant rain since the work was done, but with Rick's professionalism and thoroughness, I'm confident it will do the trick. He also said our roof was good for another two years.
Description of Work: We had a significant leak near the chimney where the roof for a screen porch addition was tied into an existing roof. Rick reconstructed something called a "cricket" and did some other work to stop the leak.

Rick was very pleasant and professional to deal with. After finding his name on Angie's List, he responded to my initial phone call that I had some water leaks in my house and came out to do a thorough examination of my roof the next day. He then got an estimate for me and we agreed to a time (within a week - 10 days) to get the work done. In the meantime we were expecting a big storm and he came out on a Saturday afternoon BEFORE the storm to do part of the work to prevent any additional water damage in the house. He followed up a few days later to finish the job. He was very knowledgeable about roofing repairs and I felt very confident that he would do an excellent job.
Description of Work: I had several places inside my house that indicated water was coming in. They had developed slowly over 2 years and I had no idea what could be causing them because my roof is only 9 years old. After climbing around and seeing for himself, Rick found several things that needed to be repaired. He cleaned and caulked 12 windows around the top, sealed toe board nail holes, cleaned and sealed several areas of nail heads that were backing out, reinforced flashing over front porch, repaired a leak at a valley transition, and extended the shingle overhang across the back of the house.

As we live four hours away, all work had to be coordinated by telephone and all work was to be conducted during the one week we were staying at the beach this summer. I could not have been more pleased. The estimate was the lowest of 3 we had conducted on the roof. The contractor showed up on time, was professional, respected our property and was done in 2 days as promised. Some rot was found on the roof (we knew we had a leak) and was repaired for a very reasonable amount of money. I found this company very reliable and trustworthy.

Rick did a great job on the roof. His prices were the best of the quotes we got and he was also the most professional of the bunch. Not only did he call us that night to make sure we were happy with the work, he also called us back after the next big rain storm (several weeks later) to make sure that everything was watertight and to our satisfaction.
