DO NOT USE ARS HEATING AND AIR;!!!! I CALLED ARS HEATING AND AIR BECAUSE MY AC UPSTAIRS WAS NOT BLOWING AIR AT ALL AS IF THE MOTOR OR AIR HANDLER WAS NOT RUNNING/ I CHECKED THE FUSE BOX AND STILL NOTHING; I ALSO CALLED THIS COMPANY BECAUSE THE Y FIRST PUT THE UNIT IN AND THE PREVIOUS (HOME) OWNERS LEFT SOME DOCUMENTS REGARDING A WARRANTY FROM THIS COMPANY/ ARS RESCUE ROOTER.....THIS IS THE ONLY REASON I CALLED THEM AND INQUIRED IF THE UNIT WAS UNDER WARRANTY; THE ANSWERING SERVICE SAID THAT SOMEONE WOULD CALL ME IN THE MORNING AND DISCUSS THAT AND THE DETAILS OF MY SERICE NEEDS; THAT EVENING, THE UPSTAIR TEMP WAS RUNNING 78-79 DESPITE TURNING THE THERMOSTAT DOWN TO 69-70....NO AIR FLOW/ NOT EVEN WARM AIR WAS COMING FROM THE VENTS AT ALL....THEY LEAD ME TO BELIEVE OVER THE PHONE THAT THE SERVICE WAS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY THEN AFTER COMING TO MY HOME REVEALED THAT THERE WOULD BE AN UPFRONT DIAGNOSTIC CHARGE OVER AND ABOVE THE LABOR/PARTS CHARGE. HE TOLD ME I NEEDED A LITTLE "COOLANT" A LITTLE TURNED OUT TO BE SUPPOSEDLY 5 POUNDS TO A TUNE OF $300.00; THE TECH BECAME ANGRY WHEN I QUESTIONED IT AND WANTED TO SPEAK TO THE MANAGER WHO SUPPOSEDLY DISCOUNTED THE PRICE TO 174.00 BUT SAID I HAD A LEAK IN THE LINE AND THAT WOULD COST MORE TO EVEN LOOK FOR IT LET ALONE FIX IT AND COULDN'T TELL ME HOW LONG THE NEW COOLANT WOULD COOL BEFORE HAVING TO FIX THE PROBLEM...1 DAY /1 WEEK? THEN I ASKED HIM WAS THE AIR COOLING NOW HE SAID YES WITH A SHARP TUNE AND LEFT IN A HUFF!!. HE NEVER BOTHERED TO GO BACK UPSTAIRS AND CHECK TO MAKE SURE IT WAS WORKING NOR TAKE A THEMOMETER TO MAKE SURE IT WAS BLOWING COLD AIR. HE ABSOLUTELY DID NOT ADDRESS NOR EVEN FIX THE PROBLEM; I THEN CALLED SEVERAL TIMES AND SPOKE TO THE GENERAL MANAGER JASON WHO WAS EXTREMELY RUDE AND CONDESCENDING AND SAID HE WILL SEND SOMEONE OUT FOR FREE (WOW BIG DEAL) TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM AND THEN GO FROM THERE....WHICH MEANS MORE MONEY!!!! HE KEPT SAYING....WHAT'S THE PROBLEM/ WHAT DO I WANT HIM TO DO NOW? HE JUST BLOW OFF MY COMPLAINT THAT I WAS CHARGED FOR A SERVICE THAT DID NOT GET....AND MY UNIT IS STILL NOT FIXED AND WAS CLEARLY MISDIAGNOSED!!!! HE SAID I PROBABLY NEEDED COOLANT AND THE TECH DID HIS JOB AND WHEN I SAID I AM NOT PAYING ANY MORE MONEY AND I DIDNT GET PROPER SERVICE HE SAID THAT COOLANT COST MONEY AND IS NOT FREE; HE ARGUED THAT I GOT COOLANT AND NEEDED TO PAY FOR IT...ALTHOUGH MY AC IS STILL NOT WORKING AND WAS EXPECTING ME TO FORK OUT EVEN MORE MONEY AND THEN FINALLY SAID.... I JUST REALLY DON'T WANT TO PAY AND ITS ALL ABOUT THE MONEY. I WAS TRUELY INSULTED AND COULD NOT BELIEVE A SO CALLED MANAGER OF A CUSTOMER DRIVEN COMPANY WAS TREATING ME LIKE DIRT. AND THEN WHEN I DECLINED TO HAVE A NEW TECH COME OUT AND THEN ASKED TO PLEASE GIVE ME MY MONEY BACK SO I CAN CALL SOMEONE ELSE TODAY HE TOLD ME HE WOULD RIP UP THE CHECK BUT COULD NOT GIVE IT BACK TO ME TODAY AND SAID IT WOULD NOT BE 'READY" TIL AT LEAST TOMORROW. WHAT DOES THAT MEAN? I FEEL SO HURT BY THIS AND HAVE NEVER BEEN SO INSULTED. MY UPSTAIRS IS STILL HOT AND I AM BACK TO SQUARE ONE WITH THE PROBLEM. AND BY THE WAY THE TEMP UPSTAIRS IS NOT READING 80 AND ARS CAME OUT THIS MORNING AT 10AM TO SUPPOSEDLY FIX IT....
Description of Work: THEY WERE SUPPOSE TO COME OUT AND FIX MY AC UNIT BECAUSE IT WAS NOT BLOWING AIR IN THE UPSTAIRS UNIT. THEY NOT ONLY DID NOT FIX THE UNIT BUT CHARGED ME FOR A PRODUCT I DID NOT NEED AND STILL DID NOT FIX THE UNIT; THEY WERE VERY RUDE AND INSULTING AND HURTFUL.

Process started well. I promptly received a return-phone call in reply to my email requesting an appointment. Then, after scheduling a time for the following morning, 8 - 11am window, I was sent a confirmation email. ARS called me approx. 8 next morning with a heads up that tech should arrive in about an hour. i.e., approx 9am. With no sign nor update re: the tech, at 10am I received a phone call from ARS apologizing that there had been a miscommunication on their end which resulted in the tech going to a different location for another customer's appointment instead of mine. Caleb arrived approx. 10:30. After I explained why I had been expecting him approx. 1.5 hrs. earlier, he apologized for the mix-up. He was professional and organized about his process of completing the service request. I appreciate that he explained what potential issues were of concern re: condition of fixtures, hoses, etc. Given the miscommunication issue, it wouldn't be appropo to award an A for Overall. The service provided on-site helped smooth over my disappointment re: the arrival time.

I had purchased a big deal, and the service was provided the next day. This was the first time that I used them. They were good. They were here when you needed them, the guys did the job, and left. There were no issues, it was great.
Description of Work: They took care of my septic tank. He uncovered a problem in the plugs, he routed the connection, and cleaned the tank.

The company did contact me to come back and fix but I told them my husband completed the repair. They did not offer any type of refund which is fine since we repaired it without notifying them. My husband didn't want them to return and wanted to fix himself. I sent prior review before I checked work. On time but did not fix clogged sink. The serviceman did not test the sink just told me it was fixed and left. After he left I turned on sink and disposal and it was still clogged. He used a snake and changed studor vent charged me $147 above what I paid $49 on Angie's list. I don't understand a plumber that can't fix a clogged kitchen sink. I should have checked before he left but he told me not to use sink for several hours because he put a liquid drain cleaner in and it had to sit for several hours. Will not use them again.

I have a service plan with ARS, which consists of preferred customer pricing. Called main office on the 7th and asked what does the service plan include, because we found out that Delk plumbing would have done the job for $80! I was informed by the call center that it would 10% off AC and $49 service call; for plumbing it would be a 15% discount. I was transferred and the rep on the phone said that they would make the change on my bill to reflect a 10% discount not 15% because the 1st person was just the call center and gave me incorrect info. So my bill went from $333.00 to $299.70.

-AC is blowing hot air since 4pm 7 July 14. -Called them at 6pm on 7 July 14 for emergency work order. -Call returned at 6:25 stating 3 people were ahead and we may have to wait to the AM. -Called them at 10am, because heard nothing from them. -I was informed that someone would be out today, they can't give me a time because it was an emergency work order. -I'm glad we have the service plan and we're a priority service call, because it's now 12:19 and they still are not here and could you imagine if we weren't a priority?!? -AC unit is less than 2 years old, this should not be an issue after spending over $14,000!!!
Description of Work: Installed 2 air conditioner units 9/27/12. With service plan that includes- scheduled maintenance visits. Preferred customer pricing. Priority emergency service.

After posting my original review I was contacted by the company to discuss my issues. As a result they agreed to refund a portion of the fee they charged. I feel this was a fair compromise. I never had a problem with the actual work done, so now I would recommend them.

ARS originally installed my unit and I was going to call them for a winter inspection when I saw the Angie's List deal. The inspection would have cost approximately $70. I am very pleased with Angie's price and the service by ARS.

First their idea of a tune up consists of examining the unit and taking some readings. First thing they did was to go into the attic air handler where they said the coils are rusting and I should consider replacing the whole system. This is a 2007 Goodman system. I do know the coils have some rust on them. Then they checked the Freon outside on the condenser but admitted it was too cold to get an accurate Freon reading unless it was closer to 70 degrees outside which it wasn't (more like in the 40s). They said the Freon "might" be low but can't tell. To summarize they said I should replace the whole system, even though everything was running great and they found no problems. Naturally they offered to come out and give me a "free" estimate which I declined. Needless to say I was NOT happy. I started to think about this and when it warmed up a few days later I called them back and they did check the Freon level for free, at my insistence, and found it to be "just fine". Given this information you make the call as to what you think about ARS.
Description of Work: Paid for an AC/Heating tune up with Home Depot who had ARS come out.

I placed the Big Deal order 6/10, emailed the provider requesting an appointment. Waited a week and emailed the company again on 6/17, received an email from the company saying someone would contact me. Waited 6 days contacted Angie's 6/23 waited 3 days to hear from Angie's and to date,6/26, still have not heard from the provider or his company. Last year I contacted two providers from Angie's List, to contract to have a garage built. The same thing happened....no response. I simply Googled contractors in Summerville,SC, read the reviews, selected one and he built a $28,000K garage for us. After 3 weeks one of Angie's contractors called me saying he wasn't good about checking his email! After 4 weeks one of the contractors from Angie's called me and apologized saying he had "problems and had to leave town for awhile, did I still want a garage built"!!! I'm sorry to say, I don't think I will ever use Angie's List again. Thank you for returning my money. Reschia Wagner

Service man was still AWOL after a scheduled appointment window and I received no notice of delay. I had to call them to find out if they were still coming, and then I had to go through several people in an answering service company, telling each one who I was, before I finally got the actual ARS dispatcher. And they still showed up later than the revised time. Unexpected delays come with the territory but how about letting me know when one has occurred? I've used this company since they installed the unit in my newly constructed home 14 years ago and they seem to be getting less responsive as they get bigger. Generally they have done a good job. One particular warranty repair had to be repeated several times over several years before they figured out the right part to replace in order to enact a permanent fix. Other service was done right the first time at a reasonable price.

I purchased the ARS Rescue Rooter deal for $49 and called them out for a plumbing leak that I had. The plumber came out and observed the area and stated that he couldn't find where the leak was coming from. Shortly after he left, the leak started again. The plumber was called back and stated that he could return the next day. He returned the next day and still couldn't locate where the leak was coming from. Ultimately, another company was called and they came out and found the source of the problem and repaired it.

I am in shock! I have three toilets that I wanted the insides replaced. I had bought the parts. One toilet did require an additional part, a supply line. The estimate at first was $535, I told him no way. So he came down to $450 and I have the $100 credit from the angies list coupon. I still find $350.00 to change the insides of 3 commodes OUTRAGEOUS!!! No way will I pay it, I will find someone more reasonable or do it myself. Coupon was a wasted $49.

John was on time and very knowledgeable about the work that needed to be done. He was also willing to recommend some ways on how to perform my DIY work more efficiently. We are looking forward to John helping us complete the plumbing in the upstairs and downstairs remodel and will use ARS for future needs as well.

I noticed my upstairs AC unit was not functioning properly and it was very hot upstairs, making it hard to sleep. I called the company on Tuesday, May 6th to request service. They told me they would come out on Thursday May 8th between 2-5pm. I got a call around noon the day of the appointment to tell me that they were down a technician and fielding a lot of calls due to warm weather and asked me if I could reschedule for sometime the following week. Our house is up for sale, so we really needed a quick resolution to this for showing purposes as well as comfort sleeping at night! We rescheduled the appointment for Friday May 11th from 2-5pm. On Friday, I called around 4pm to see if the person was still coming. The woman who answers the phone and apparently schedules the appointments told me that he was finishing up another call and would be coming to me next. An hour later she called me again to tell me the tech would not be able to make it. Again I was asked to reschedule for later the following week. I travel for work and would not be home during the week, so it was important that I was able to get this resolved before leaving for the week. The woman I spoke to was very rude in how she spoke to me. She said to me "Your appointment is ONLY a diagnostic checkup". I explained to her that my appointment is for an AC unit that is not working and my upstairs is hot. She said that was not what they had written down. Well obviously someone made an error. Then she asked me if I have two units, and when I said yes...she said their other customers only had one unit and did not have ANY AC. I was completely shocked at the tone and way she spoke to me! She basically made me feel as if I was a customer that just did not matter to them. As soon as I got of the phone, I called SMOAK AC and they offered to come right out, and I scheduled an appointment for the following morning. SMOAK came and fixed the system and were very professional. I will NEVER use ARS again, they way I was made to feel as a customer was unacceptable!! I hope someone in management is aware of how this woman talks to customers.
Description of Work: Called ARS after seeing a Groupon for $39 diagnostic. My upstairs air conditioning unit was not working and was very hot.

Excellent, they responded within 60 minutes of my call. Jerry a very experienced plumber, 36 years, provided excellent service and was very courteous. I would definitely use this company again for my plumbing needs.

ARS was not able to respond to my house until the second day, due to high volume of calls, but when they showed up (on time), the technician quickly diagnosed the problem and had us up and cooling within a half hour. Technician thoroughly explained problem and solution as well as costs involved. Our AC unit is 20 years old and has some potential major problems. These were pointed out and recommendations given without any high pressure sales tactics. I will be using ARS for system replacement in the near future. Used an Angie's list coupon I had just purchased which saved me $100 on the visit.
