I had submitted a review about a service call made by ARS a couple of months ago where I complained about the work done. I was contacted by the Supervisor last week and we discussed the problems. He apologized very sincerely and arranged for a service person to come to my house today to address the problems. He was prompt, courteous, and completed the work quickly. I am very impressed that I was contacted and made to feel that such problems are completely unacceptable in the company. The Supervisor took down the details of my complaints, said he would speak with the service person that was involved, and would work with him to determine what the problem was so it could be corrected. With my problems resolved, I am now going to renew my service contract with ARS confident that I will receive high quality workmanship.
Description of Work: This plumbing job concerned two bathroom sink plungers that didn't work at all and a leaking hot water hose connection on my washing machine.

I would never use ARS Rescue Rooter again.
Description of Work: Had issue with water leak behind a built in refrigerator. ARS service technician laid on the floor shined a flashlight under the refrigerator and said he did not see signs of water. I asked if he would pull the refrigerator out and he said no that I needed to contact a appliance repair company. I was charged $60.00 for laying on the floor for 10 minutes and doing absolutely nothing other than to tell me if there was a leak it was something an appliance repair company should handle. After contacting an appliance repair company they pulled the refrigerator and found a broken water line and fixed it on the spot with a small hose clamp and/or coupling. All ARS would have had to do was to roll the refrigerator out to find and do the same thing. The appliance repair company charged $75.00 for one hour of labor and actually did something where ARS charged $60.00 for doing nothing other than laying on the floor for ten minutes.

They had a special going on where they would discount plumbing work. My hoses were old on the back of the washer and dryer so I wanted them to be replaced. They just rung off the handles on the knobs and then left me with a bill. Also, the stoppers in the sink weren’t working so they dripped a little rubber thing they went out and bought and charged me $150. I was dissatisfied with the other range of services besides the one I had contracted them with. Therefore, I canceled their service with them because of poor performance.
Description of Work: They were doing my preventative maintenance on my heating and A/C system.

They came and checked the entire system and cleaned it. They service everything completely which includes the upstairs and downstairs unit, heat and air. They would come back without any charges for a year. Their price is fair compared to others. I do not have any trouble because they do all the maintenance. They are polite and responsive. They come on time. I would use them again in the future.
Description of Work: American Residential Services LLC, heating and A/C. I got a service done and have an annual contract with them. I paid $250 for it which also includes the parts and labor charges.

He arrived w/i 30 minutes of the time estimated, he was early, inroduced himself, asked if he could come in, put on his booties, asked where the thermostat was and where the system was located, and then went to work. When he was finished, he did make a recommendation that we have an inline UV light installed to kill the bacteria that was starting to accumulate.
Description of Work: We have been ARS customers since we purchased our home, here in Charleston in 2000. We will be needing a new system soon, and ATS is the only company we have asked for a quote from. In our case their personnel are close to on time, always professional, make recommendations based on facts, wear their booties, never leave a mess, are through, and return if the solution doesnt work. Not much else I could ask for. We have maintained our checkup contract since 2000. This appointment was for the technician to perform a complete system check.

ARS had done work for me in the past and my experiences were fine. However, things seem to have taken an incontrovertible turn for the worse. I called them to fix my furnace. They sent someone out to diagnose the problem and quoted me over $850 for the repair (plus the service call fee). They promised me someone would return the next day to complete the repair - as that was part of what I was clear about requiring. No one showed up and I called towards the end of the day. I was told it wasn't put on the schedule and that no one could come out. They apologized and promised someone would come out first thing the next morning. I gave them this chance to make things right. However, no one showed up by noon so I called. They said that I was on the schedule for the following week, they had no record of an appointment being scheduled for this day, and that the part needed was "locked up" in their warehouse and they could not get it for two days. At this point I cancelled the service call and had to explore other options (and even after cancelling they called me three days later to confirm the cancelled appointment). I called another company who diagnosed the exact same problem, fixed it within a day, and did so for $500 - over $350 (44%)cheaper than ARS. So, price gouging, lack of communication, and an overall poorly run company leads me to never choose them again. To their credit, after my kvetching, they did refund to me the initial service charge fee - though after airing their internal dirty laundry about who should have done what and why it didn't happen and that someone quit who was supposed to do something to arrange my appointment, etc. Why that information would be shared with clients is beyond me, but i suppose is par for the course with ARS. Looking for HVAC work, go elsewhere!
Description of Work: I called ARS to repair a furnace. They diagnosed the problem and promised to fix it. However, they did not show up for two separate appointments. Moreover, the company I called instead did the exact same work for $350 less.

They were very responsive, and actually came early. I thought they should have offered to assist some on the motor. It was $520 just 7 months ago, and now the price list is $580. this for a motor that anyone can buy for about $65. The tech was honest, and showed me the price list. While here I had him replace a broken disconnect , I had purchased a new one at HD. They charged $125 for that which took 15 minutes. That plus $89 service call seemed too high to me. I was able to get a new unit for $2200 and they quoted $3300. Since the unit sells for $1200 on the internet, I think $3300 installed is too much. My opinion.
Description of Work: I had a service call on a mini-split system, ductless unit. The came and diagnosed a bad fan motor, which they had just replaced 7 months ago. I elected not to replace it in a ten year old unit. They did not offer any discount for recent motor, or check to see if any warranty could be offered, or offer a reduced price.

They were great. They said in a new house it's fairly typical to have to do air flow adjustments. They were very courteous. They took off their shoes when they came in. They explained everything to me. They were happy and willing to answer all of my questions. They were very friendly. I felt very comfortable with them in my home doing these things.
Description of Work: They came out initially and assessed the problem. They then set up a follow up appointment and came out again to take care of it. The first came out and did an air flow adjustment. Then another guy came out and did a deeper examination of what they needed to do. They installed a damper in between the stones and adjust air flow. I'll probably need them to come out again and adjust it a little more.

Called company with a blocked household drain system. After being told they would be here in 2 hours or less we called back at the 3 hour mark and was told it could take up to 4 hours. About 30 minutes later they showed up. After about an hour of work we were told there were roots in the line and the problem would return. They game us an estimate of $2900.00 to fix the problem permanently. I paid them $191.00 for the work they did today and they left with us telling them we would get back with them withing the next couple of weeks to have them replace the line for a permanent fix. In less than an hour we tried to use our water and had a shower full of water again. We called them to report that the problem was no better. They said they would have to charge us another 191.00 to come back out and do the same thing which did no good the first time. They said they had told us the problem would return and basically it had come back as they said it would. Of course I said I expected it to last longer than an hour but they just said it wasn't their problem. I feel that all this company was only interested in is doing a $2900.00 job and basically charged us $191.00 to give us an estimate. They did nothing to relieve the problem, and even though they said there were roots in the line and the problem would come back they gave the impression that the immediate problem was fixed and it would take time for the blockage to return. I would never use this company again for anything.

I had called Home Depot and they called ARS Heating and Cooling. They were very good. They were professional and respectful. They got here on time. The guy that came out was nice and professional. He was a bit late the second time when he had to come and put the motor in but he called and told me that he was going to be late. I have a one-year guarantee on the motor. I had a coupon for $89.00. They scheduled an appointment 2 days later. The serviceman came within the window they gave. He started the service then explained that the coupon was for only minimum tune-up. If I wanted to contract with them for $169.00/yr. they would give the unit an extensive cleaning including the coils and come back in the fall for an extensive service on the heating unit. Being we just bought the house and didn't think it was serviced on a regular basis, we decided to go with the contract. It also includes discounts on other services during the year including emergency visits.

Eight weeks later, job is still not done. I recently called S'ville inspector and found ARS never pulled correct permit. Job has several serious code violations. This has been a nightmare from beginning to end. It's not over yet. 1. Every vent cut in walls, too big for covers. Installers tried to seal 1/2 inch gap on sides with caulk. 2. Cut huge holes in walls and ran 12 in duct across corner in bedroom and left it. Looked like an industrial plant. 3. Ran an 8 inch duct across dining room to large to be covered with false ceiling. Must be totally re-done. 4. Large ducts laying on floor of attic blocking entry. 5. Collapsed ducts, no air flow in two bedrooms and a bath. 6. Installed vent in middle of an access panel I asked not to be touched. Must now cut new panel. 7. After 6 weeks, called ARS and gave one week to finish job or I will no longer need them to finish job. Manager, Dave, called me back and yelled at me. 8. Huge duct installed in closet jammed light bulb against wall. 9. Duct boxes insulated only on side exposed to view. Three other sides left un-insulated, thought no one would see. 10. One large duct in attic not connected to anything! Air flowing into attic. 11. Duct work sagging in many places allowing for gathering of condensation and future problems 12. Lines entering house from outside ac not enclosed, leaving space open for insect, vermin, birds to enter home. 13. Worker dropped tool and chipped wood floor. 14. They recommended contractor to clean sewage from ducts. Contractor poured Clorox bleach into floor vents, vacuumed sewage out and poured it into city storm grate in front of home. His "Hepa" filters were furnace filters cut to fit over floor vents and held down with weights allowing fecal bacteria to blow throughout home. 15. Some ducts have already collapsed cutting off air flow. 16. So many other problems, I'm tired of listing them. Needless to say, I didn't pay them anything!
Description of Work: Slab home, all ac ducts were located under slab. Had sewer pipe break and all ducts were compromised. I called ARS to change out entire system, new upflow furnace, ac unit and install ductwork in attic. Complete change out of system. Was told job would take less than one week. Now in eigth week. Wondered why no town inspector had ever come over. When ARS told me the job was done and they were ready for payment, I called Town of Summerville inspector. He found seven code violations beginning with a falsified permit application. It just gets worse after that. My best advice to anyone thinking of using ARS...Run! Do Not Hire This Company! Every time someone looks at the job done by this company, they point out more shoddy work that I was not experienced enough to know about. Town of Summerville inspectors (3 of them), ARS manager and I met this Monday morning. When violations were cited, ARS said he would have it fixed. After the inspectors left, I pointed out to ARS manager that he had walked all through the house with me just a few days earlier and said everything looked good. If this job looked good to him...there's the first problem. I told him I have lost confidence in ARS and I would like for him to schedule a time when his men can remove all their equipment so that I can hire another company to do the job. He said he would fix the problems, but what about the problems I don't know about yet? If the HVAC Manager couldn't see the mess that was made of this job, no wonder the techs were clueless. UPDATE: I asked ARS to remove equipment and duct work from home to allow a competent company to come in. They gave me a release to sign. The release promised a monetary amount for my waiver to not hold them liable when the equipment was removed. I signed the release. A week later they reniged on the terms of the release and we are now in litigtion.

I discovered on a Saturday morning that our water heater (in the garage) was leaking. I called ARS, and the dispatcher said she would have someone call me when he finished the job he was already on. He called within the next couple of hours, came over, and determined that the unit needed to be replaced. He asked some questions about number of bathrooms, garden tub, etc., to verify that the size unit was correct. He also noted that the old unit predated the requirement for an expansion tank, so that had to be added to the cost of the replacement. After we agreed on the price, he hooked up a hose to let the tank begin draining while he went to pick up the new unit. When he returned, he was joined by a second service person, and when they were ready to remove the old tank and bring in the new one, a third ARS tech who had finished up a job nearby stopped to help. (The tank sits up on a platform in the corner of the garage and was not particularly easy to get to.) The work was done with attention to details such as adding a drain line from the pan to a ventilation grill in the wall so that, if the new tank were to leak, the water would flow out of the garage instead of through it. The workers cleaned up everything when they were finished, even hosing off the driveway so that the rust from draining the old tank would not stain the concrete. I was pleased with the response on a weekend and with the finished job.

Ennis the account or sales rep was just a pleasure to deal with. So patient - I had him requote the job probablya bout 10 different ways and he was responsive every time. Every one we dealt with was extremely professional. The installation crew was polite, professional, quick and cleaned up thoroughly after the job. We did have a bit of a glitch, a media filter was supposed to be installed but wasn't for some reason - the technician that came out to perform the first service noticed. The installation coordinator was extremely apologetic, calling personally to apologize and schedule time to come out and fix the problem. Had it not been for some crappy weather causing an understandable and acceptable delay, they would have been out within a week of the dall.

I despise ARS. I will yell it from the rooftops. I am not even convinvced that my old zone card went bad. The zone card was only seven years old and there was no sign of lightning, etc. to indicate that there was a cause and effect. I think they pulled one over on me and I will never use ARS again.
Description of Work: ARS answered our call when we reported to them that our A/C system had stopped working. They ahd to order a new microcircuit zone board because they told me that the one I had, a two zone Carrier card was no longer available. They replaced the card with a three zone card and charged me $750 for the service. The A/C began working again, but failed shortly thereafter. I called a recommended electrician who came out and told me that the transformer supplying power to the three zone card had burned up. He stated that the three zone card required a larger transformer and that ARS should have known this and replaced the transformer at the same time.
