Description of Work: Chris replaced our aging HVAC system with a new one, including all new ductwork. He and his team were on time, efficient and extremely knowledgeable about the product being installed. It has been almost one year since the installation and there have been no issues during that year. I would recommend Chris Thatcher Polar Mech to anyone looking for a reliable, professional HVAC contractor.

Chris was very responsive when I called. He came out the same day and explained my options. The water heater went in a couple of days later. Everything works fine.

The installation was expected to take about a day and a half to accomplish removal of the old unit, installation of the new one, and final trimming of the new air return and access hole. The job completed a couple of hours ahead of schedule and the unit has operated flawlessly. Some microbial fouling of the condensate line caused the unit to stop about 7 months after install, at which time Chris came out and serviced the unit at no charge. A similar job was quoted to me by a larger, local HVAC company. Their estimate was several thousand dollars higher than my final bill. Very satisfied customer.
Description of Work: Installation and setup of a dual-fuel heat pump and high efficiency air conditioner.

I recently contacted Chris Thatcher because my Air Conditioner was not cooling and I had water leaking through the ceiling into my laundry room. Chris came out the same day that I contacted him and was able to corrected the problem. The original contractor had not properly installed the drain line and the drip pan was not positioned correctly. I first used Chris a year or so ago when my heat pump was not working during the Christmas holidays and on the day of my son's birthday party. Chris came immediately to resolve the issue despite the Christmas holiday or the crowd here for the party. Chris has always been very professional and prompt and I have recommended him to my brother, sister in law, mother in law, and several friends and family. If you need to have work done quickly and right the first time I highly recommend that you contact Chris. Chris's expertise in HVAC, professionalism, kindness, and promptness is why I will only use him for all my HVAC maintenance and service needs.

Upstairs (3rdfloor) unit leaked all the way to the 1st floor because they did not clean out the drain/overflow line. We called Chris Thatcher and he came to our home and told us it was the fault of the installer (subcontractor Kenneth Anderson) Chris Thatcher said he blew out the lines to fix the problem and that we need to call Kenneth Anderson’s insurance company and make a claim. I called Kenneth Andersons’ Insurance Company on 4/13/ 2011 adjuster Cary Wilkie came to our home. He said that the repairs would cost $1,217.06. On June 9th 2011 ( I was reading the release for property damage from Kenneth Anderson’s Insurance company Auto –Owners Insurance Company when my husband asked me for His Medical Records because he had a doctor’s appointment )I went upstairs in my office to get my husband’s Medical Records and found that they were all wet, the ceiling and molding had water dripping off of it .I called Chris Thatcher again he came out ( and was not very nice—He told me (Don’t start on me Miss Lynn) this is the second time I have had that attitude from him. Attached #B is a copy of the bill – he told me to turn that into Kenneth Anderson’s Insurance Company dated June 9th for $645.00. I feel that this is Insurance Fraud, plus we have more damage to the ceiling on the second floor Office, bedroom and the cost of Medical Records. On June 14,2011,our unit on the first floor stopped working, we called Chris Thatcher, he came to our home. He found that the drain pump had stopped (this pump was over 15years old and was not replaced when the new units were put in) he said he would come back in the morning and replace it, he charged us $150.00. At that time he asked if I had received a check from Anderson’s Insurance. I told him No… I later received a letter from the Insurance Company stating that they did not pay for the contractor bill, only the problem it caused. I called Chris Thatcher and told him. I also found out that if I accepted a 2nd party insurance money that it would be Insurance Fraud. We did not have a contract with Kenneth Anderson; we had it with Chris Thatcher. With Chris’s Attitude and the problems we were having I starting checking in to what else he had not done… I called McCall Supply Company to get a name of a Mechanical Contractor that could check the units out. I was given the name of B & E Heating & Air-Mechanical Contractor. They came out and found many things that were wrong. We have also contacted inspectors for the City of North Augusta and Steve Smith and Manuel came out on July 26 and also found many things that are not up to code. They also found that we had paid to have all Ceiling boots replaced on the 2nd and 3rd floor with insulated ones… none had been done. Also the duct work is wrong plus many other things… see attached list. #C Chris has called and he wanted to know WHY we had another company in our home… he has also had a John Kinder- he said he worked for Mike Brown Attorney; he wanted to know what was going on. Yesterday Chris Thatcher stopped in front of our home when the city inspector’s were here, they told him they were called and that several things were wrong (Chris Thatcher tried to say that the other company changed things and he was not at fault.) The city inspectors told him that that was incorrect that they had not been here long enough to change anything. They were performing an inspection that we had hired them to do. We do not want Chris Thatcher in our home or anything to do with him. He has lied and I personally am afraid of him. This is a copy of the report that we have turned in to the LLR with the State of South Carolina.
Description of Work: We had Chris replace the heating and air condition units on the 1st and 2-3rd floor of our home. He told us that he was licensed is South Carolina. The units equal 16 seer. He was also going to replace the boots with insulated one on the 2nd and 3rd floor because of mold and he was also to replace the duct work where possible. All of the duct work is on the 3rd floor under window seats, I removed all the items on them so they would have easy access. We had a sign contract from him as to what was to be done. Please read below as to the problems we have had. His attitude is less than to be desired.
