When our original unit failed after 6 years, we had Cold Wave install a new unit for us. We had them come out a few times in the first 12 months to make adjustments since the unit would not always function correctly. We also had them come out for annual tune-up. In August 2015, we had home inspected for potential buyer...inspector sited several issues with the AC from, rust around pan, leaks, and failure of the unit to cool first floor. We called and called, left messages with answering service and techs but have never got a call back. Had to hire another firm to come out and make a repair to get the unit going but still have been unable to contact Cold Wave over issues in report or warranty on the unit.
Description of Work: Our AC unit failed, we contacted Cold Wave who came out and installed a new unit. They were called back a few times in the first year to 'adjust the system' since it was still having problems.

Response from Cold Wave Cooling
In response to complaint registered by (member name removed) , we did replace the system as per our proposal. The property owner, (member name removed), lives in New Jersey. The house that we are discussing is in Myrtle Beach, SC. At the time of service, (member name removed) stated that he had never been to the service property. The property is an income rental that was, and is still, rented to multiple college students. We advised (member name removed) that a maintenance agreement should be kept on the system to ensure proper performance. He chose not to contract us for maintenance and he never paid for any additional maintenance agreements beyond what was included in the first year. During the first year we had to go out to the house to address the evaporator coil being frozen over due to dirty filters. In the second and third year we serviced the unit for the same system issue of dirty filters caused by the tenants. Filter replacement is always a homeowner/tenant responsibility. Even if he had chosen a maintenance contract, which he did not, replacing filters would still be the responsibility of homeowner/tenant. At that time we told him that we were no longer interested in performing any work for him due to the fact that he refused to perform the necessary homeowner maintenance to ensure proper performance of his system. He refused to pay us for any additional work, citing a warranty that did not exist. He is selling his house and has forwarded the home inspector report to us. In the HVAC section it notes that there was rust in the secondary pan from water leaks. First, the secondary pan was not included in the written proposal for the system replacement that he signed off on. Second, the rust stains are due the unit freezing up, caused by dirty filters mentioned above. The report also mentions that the first floor doesn’t cool properly and the zone board may not be operating properly. There is a picture of the zone controller in the report that shows that the wires have been removed and reconfigured. The new wiring is done in an unsafe manner, not to code. As professional contractors we do not use these wiring techniques. Furthermore, if we Had left the wiring in its current condition, the system would not have operated from the time of install. The inspector notes that it is a $100.00 to $200.00 repair to make the system operate, yet (member name removed) wants us to refund him $2,000.00. In summation, we did not respond to (member name removed) because of the above mentioned unwillingness to pay for a maintenance agreement and unwillingness to pay for services that were not a warranty issue. Enclosed please find a copy of our original proposal and a copy of the HVAC section of the home inspectors report. Sincerely, Mario Glorioso Cold Wave Cooling
