We contracted this firm in May, 2016 to build an extended porch with a vaulted roofed ceiling. Construction did not begin until late July. The workmanship was so shoddy that we called in the Horry County inspector who initially cited 5 code violations. A couple days later, after we had another contractor expose the roof, the county inspector cited 14 more code violations. We paid a professional consultant who reported that; the Addition Rafters terminated on the original truss, which is not designed for load bearing; rafters & beams have no hurricane strapping; joist hangers improperly installed; rafter heels have gaps which violates code; existing shingles not removed before nailing plate for rafters; Main support post improperly installed. Their conclusion: The roof additions is not constructed in accordance with building codes and industry standards. The roof addition should be removed and a new roof constructed according to code. Installed bead board is of poor quality for an interior finish. This firm refuses to refund the $9,200 we paid for this inadequate work. In addition we have to pay another firm to remove this roof and rebuild and finish the job. Don't contract with this firm!

I have taken this company to the BBB. We could not come to any agreement. I have hired a roofer to repair the damage 1st Choice did to my existing roof. The roofer could not believe what they did. I did get a 2nd opinion from another roofer and he said the same thing as the 1st roofer. There is nothing in the contract I signed telling 1st Choice to remove my roof shingles. The white around the windows are chipping off, the storm door would not close, the poly/vinyl is tearing apart from the window frame. They were suppose to reseal my existing Elite roof. Never done. Chris contacted me on Thursday to set up a meeting on Sat. about what to do. He never showed or called. I fired them on Sunday like any other employer would. They worked for me. I do not work for them. I paid the money for the job when they asked for it. No questions asked. They are suppose to guarantee their work for a year by law. However, that would require them to show up. My next step is small claims court. I am suing for the new roof, the windows that have to be fixed and replace and a new storm door that is ruined. 1st Choice brought this upon themselves by being so arrogant. I would honestly think twice about hiring this company. The building Inspector was here today 8/19/16 and would not approve the job until I am satisfied. I am contacting the county's licensing division to file a complaint against 1st Choice. I have given this company the chance to resolve this issue but they refused by not showing up. My time is valuable to.
