The crew showed up on schedule removed all the old shrubs and materials, added loam and sod to the reconfigured areas. They did this in one day and hauled it away. On the second day they planted the new shrubs and plants added mulch and raked and cleaned the area. The crew was professional and very responsive to our questions. They also made some changes to the sprinkler system because of the reconfiguration.
Description of Work: Rick (owner) Came to the house and spent considerable time with us going over the changes we wanted to make to the front and side yards that included drainage, removing shrubs that had seen better days and reconfiguring some areas. He called us several days later to come see the new design he had come up with. We met him at the nursery and went over the plans with him that included a cost break down for the work and materials (we added more plants at additional cost.). Bob his yard boss spent time with us going over the different plants and shrubs that would be best for our climate and our yard ( full sun).

Response from Blue Moon Garden Center
We did a small job for her and she was very pleased when completed. She had a problem with moles and later discovered, with earth worms. When she called, we responded and checked out her problem immediately. We visited her property several times and talked with her via phone. Initially it was a mole problem so we treated the area at least 2 additional time, at no cost to her. After checking with our local extension office, the additional problem was due to the unusual amount of rain which brought worms to the surface of the beds creating small piles of soil. We advised her of the issue and the solution. She requested a price for installing brick chips again, but didn't like the price. That was the last time that we heard from her. We always listened to her issues and responded as soon as possible. We are sorry that she is unhappy.

All of my experiences associated with Blue Moon have simply been wonderful. That goes from that high quality product to the friendly and patient service.
Description of Work: Bob (?) is friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. We moved to the Myrtle Beach (Murrells Inlet) SC area from the KC, KS area (not the KC MO area, Growing conditions here are very different here from what we are used to in KC. Plants that thrived easily in KC like Peonies will not grow here despite the fact that many of the big box stores like Costco, Home Depot, and Lowes sell them. There are a wide variety of pests and diseases here that are not a problem in KC. Prices at Blue Moon are competitive and the service is very good. Bob is very knowledgeable and patient with the wide mix of customers. The vast majority of customers are transplants from all over the country. Most of them come from the Northeast from Maryland to New York to New England. Much of what they are used to growing back home simply can't handle the heat, humidity and salt in the soil and air that all of the plants face here. He is very patient with them and then shows them all of the plants that thrive here that will do things that nothing they've seen back home will do - like Camellias that live as an outdoor shrub here and produce beautiful flowers all of the way from late October to early March. So far, most of what I have gotten from Blue Moon is information. I am new to the area. The local soil is a horrible clay mixture that most closely resembles concrete. That said, Blue Moon sells a wonderful group soil conditioner and amendment products that are outstanding. I started with them in all of my garden beds about ten months ago and you wouldn't believe it is the same soil. It is less expensive than the stuff at Lowe's or Home Depot and greatly outperforms it. My soil is now ready to start planting the plants that I really want to plant. These will be the plants to replace the generic "Builder plants" that came with the house. It never ceases to amaze me how badly the local "experts" who work with the builders perform. Then they act very surprised when all of their one year warranty plants whither and die after 14 to 18 months. They are even more surprised when I don't want to buy my replacements from them. It is almost and I repeat ALMOST laughable. The owner of the company will no longer come to my house after I asked him to come out to the house and inspect for insect damage. Most of the shrubs in the front of my house were infested with a variety of insects, most notably, aphids that were destroying a previously beautiful flowering shrub in the front of my house. While we were looking at the plant a group of fire ants laid siege to my legs from ankles to knees. A total of 65 bites became infected. But the all time classic line from that visit followed as I was spraying my feet and ankles with water to blow off the fire ants The company's owner had the audacity to ask "Do you still think that your property needs to be sprayed for insects?" Had I not been the better man, I would have seriously considered rearranging his truly abysmal bridgework. I must say that it quite simply reflected the quality of work that the man considers proper. Please don't confuse this "builder" company (AAA) with Blue Moon. Blue Moon is wonderful and caring. They work very hard to provide a solid service and great plants for a fair price. The builder company is called AAA Plant services. I try to be fair with all of the contractors with which I work. I do not expect to get Rolls Royce quality workmanship for KIA prices.I did offer to pay extra to get a higher quality product. What I got from AAA was low quality products AND workmanship. It would have saved me money, time and aggravation, if they simply would have stepped aside from the beginning a let me handle everything from the get-go but they said that was not an option. So they planted everything since planting, irrigation, lawn-care, and plant-care for the first year is the responsibility of AAA Lawn Service. When I asked them about a group of plants at the south / southwest side of the house which were failing miserably, I was told that they were all suffering from heat stress. Common sense would tell me that perhaps this particular type of plant might not have been the best choice for the southern exposure of the house. When questioned about this, the owner of AAA told me that I didn't know anything about growing things south of the Mason Dixon line. We Yankees can be such unreasonable folks. This despite the fact that I've spent most of my adult years as well as my childhood living in the south. That this old boy is still embroiled in a conflict that ended over 150 years ago apeaks volumes as to what sort of character he is. I will say that there are several other quality individuals who work for AAA. Unfurtunately, it is not worth the headaches nexcessary to avoid him to get your work done in a reasonableand professional manner.

They did a fair job. But as I said too expensive and pushy so we found another person to do our landscaping and planting much cheaper and really much better. In 2011 we found we needed someone to fix our outdoor patio so we thought Blue Moon would be better in that area. We had a terrible time with them, put in a report on this matter on Angie's List and will never use this company again. He is not honest.
Description of Work: The company called our home and told us it was time to refresh the landscaping??? I know nothing about planting or landscaping so I thought this was a proper offer in order to keep our garden healthy. We're not young enough to do things oursleves anymore so we depend on hiring out. The charged us for 14 new plants, and basically dumped the old mulch and put in the new mulch. The garden didn't really look that bad but the new additions made it just a bit nicer. They tamped the soil and dumped the previous plants we purchased from them that died and cleaned up any mess they made. At this point, we decided he was too pushy and we really didn't have to spend that much money on landscaping and eventually found someone very good and much cheaper.

Purchased 10 plants, removed existing mulch, Removed plants from back of home, Added top soil and compost to sides and top and tamped soil. Applied herbicide to all beds, Tamped mulch into place. Clean up. 'We found him to just ok (not great) but it looked clean for about a year. The work had to be done over again in 2007 with an additional charge iof $1,324,00. His plants don't seem to last and they don't have a good variety. We recommended him to our new neighbors next store since we really didn't know any other nursery garden centers in the area. They disliked them and would not use them again, but I was willing to give them another chance even though the majority of the plants died. He does not guarantee anything and prices are very high. He lives in the neighborhood so I figured why not give business to neighbors.I was wrong. We used him again for patio renovation and found them to be manipulative and dishonest, After this 3rd try he showed his back handed maneuvers and no longer trust or will use him, Last work done 9/2012,

We worked for this customer previously and they didn't have any problems with our work. We stopped several times when they called to check on the plants when they had questions. We never charged for this service. If customers do not water correctly, the plants do not survive. At the time of signing any proposal we advise our customers that we do not have warranties or guarantees (in writing on the proposal). They must have liked our work because they said in 2011 that they wanted only us to do any work because they trusted us.

to us. The problems kept recurring and mistakes were nonstop. We trusted the Guignons to finish the job properly. This was just the beginning of the project. He stated that he would reduce the project by $1,500.00 due to the errors and since the patio we had was strong and in much better shape than initially thought. The new workers (Jon Rogers, Garrett and Oscar) were very good workers supervised by Jon Rogers and took the opportunity to thank them by letter to Blue Moon dated November 2011 since they worked hard to fix Richard and Mary Anne Guignon's and Grif's misrepresentation, mistakes, ordering mediocre concrete blocks that had the workers sawing off each block so they would not rock and lay straight. It was then that R.Guignon retracted the $1,500.00 savings to the balance. R. Guignon ran out of materials (pavers) and wanted to charge us extra. After applying the pavers, his compressor cracked 24 pavers. R.Guignon's fix for this was to fill in the gaps with broken pieces of leftover pavers. He did however, realize this was absurd and ordered new pavers and fixed the mistake. When it came to have the Horry County Roster Sheet signed (which is a legal document with the government), he would not sign it as contractor. He said that he WAS NOT THE CONTRACTOR, BUT WE WERE. I thought that was incorrect so I called Chief Johnson at Horry County and he got R. Guignon to sign the roster. When forced to sign, he gave us a Business License 104,643. We soon found this was outdated in 2008, so he lied on the roster sheet (a legal government document). When we called him on it and advised Chief Johnson at Horry County Code Enforcement the Guignons had to sign and put a valid number down on the sheet. He did not give us an updated "Business License" but did give us 2 other numbers one under the heading "SC State License" (026519018) and one under "County Business License" (754230). I just called Chief Johnson and both these numbers are not listed with LLR. The Guignons dba Blue Moon Nursery I believe are still giving erroneous numbers on the roster sheet. Starting out with a defunct Business License and then adding numbers he seemed to pick out of the air. This was nearly a $13,000.00 job. After paying him $10,000.00 I fired him due to his blatant lies putting fake numbers onto the roster sheet for Horry County, his back-handed way of having my husband and I prepare wording he recited to the Horry County Permit. The end result did not match the drawings the Guignons prepared as what they planned. He did not finish building a walkway and the June finish of the pavers. I then sent the Guignons a letter dated December 19, 2011 stating we would pay him the remainder of the balance (less the $1500.00 savings he gave us due to his errors, hiring a man with dementia, not ordering enough material that he wanted us to pay additional money, ordering material that was of low quality (that he recommended). We also asked (under the above circumstances) to guarantee his work. We found this company back-handed to say the least and dishonest, and no longer wished to do any further business with him or his wife or Blue Moon. I sent him a letter December 19, 2011 firing him though he still did not finish the walkway promised and the June 2012 refinishing of the pavers. My letter was an evaluation of his work and a request to guarantee his work under the circumstances delineated above. My letter added that we would pay Blue Moon in good faith once he guaranteed his work, with the final owed him $1,446.00 which reflected the $1,500 reduction he offered us. He never responded to us. He did however, put a lien on our property until the balance is paid letter dated January 23, 2012 from his lawyer. I found out just recently he was the defendant in a court action started in 2009 and resolved in 2011. I have submitted a complaint with the State of Carolina Dept of Consumer Affairs in Columbia, SC and with the SC Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation (LLR) My question to these agencies is are the numbers underlined above and entered by the Guignons sanctioned by LLR or are they false? Did they falsify the roster document? Why when we are willing to pay the final amount did they put a lien on our property? We would prefer to settle this and pay the remainder on the terms of their promised savings of $1500 and we think it reasonable and practical to have their work guaranteed since they have $10,000.00 of our money. How can we vacate the lien? Does this firm need a permit as well to operate with just a Business License (his current license number which I had to find on my own is 154230. We are good people and have a good business, financial and upstanding reputation. We are willing to pay but the Guignons dba Blue Moon Nursery and Garden Center, Inc. won't respond to our terms. I would not recommend this company for ANY business due their self serving practices, non professionalism and dishonesty, Loretta N. Lawrence 843 650-3410
Description of Work: UPDATE: 3/5/2012: This company is under investigation since they lied on the Permit giving false numbers. Think about it, why give 3 false license numbers if you have a real license??? We believe the company does not have a proper license for the work they did and at the high price charge of $12,946.00. We fired them with work left to do. They never finished the walkway or the edging along the side of my patio, they never refurbished our garden with wood chips that were there prior to their work. We just learned and have paperwork to prove that Blue Moon Nursery charged us the price of nearly $13,000.00 but submitted reports to Horry County that he charged us a price under $6,000.00 for the job he charged us $12,946.00 of which we paid him $10,000.00. We trusted them at first, and that is why we paid them upfront up to $10,000.00. We are good and honest people and just got stuck with unprofessional contractors. WE ARE IN LITIGATION WITH THIS COMPANY. BEWARE OF BLUE MOON NURSERY. NEVER USE THEM AGAIN. WILL UPDATE AFTER LITIGATION. hired a contractor (Mary Anne and Richard Guignon of Blue Moon Nursery & Garden Center, Inc.) who charged us $12,946.00 toenovate our raised outdoor patio. Though Mrs. Guignon is President, Mr. Richard Guignon reviewed the project, designed the renovation through drawings of the project and hired and subcontracted with other people. Mr. Guignon presented us with a proposal letter in the amount of $12,946.00. Added we needed to sign in order for the work to move forward. Subsequent to signing the proposal, he told us that he hired a man called "Grif" who was top in the field of stone work, pavers and redesigning stone patios. He added that since I was recovering from major surgery, he would take care of everything to make life easier for us. So he prepared the letter and told us what to write in order for Mr. Guignon to pick up the Horry Building Permit to get the job started. He told me to write "I the undersigned homeowner, have contracted with Blue Moon.... acting as my agent for alterations for my existing patio." I did this thinking that it was necessary wording for him to pick up the permit and made the assumption that the word “agent” meant he was acting in our behalf in order to pick up the permit, when in fact the wording made us (the homeowners the contractors) and released him, his wife and Blue Moon from any responsibilities or guarantees. On September 29, 2011 Grif started to jack hammer the patio, dug holes in the flooring, drilled holes into the foundation of our Carolina room and pushed rods through the holes in the foundation that extended about 2-3 feet out and above the floor of our patio. He also dug trenches about 5-6 inches wide that lead from the Carolina room door to the end of the patio (about 9 feet). He filled in the trenches only half way up. The Guignon never supervised his work. Ultimately when the Guignon came to our home, they apologized but said the work was completely wrong but that they would fix all damages performed by Grif. He said the man he subcontracted with by the name of "Grif" has dementia or Alzheimer’s disease which was the cause of damages. He assured us it would be fine so we had faith, gave him the $10,000.00 in good faith to get materials and hire new workers to complete the job. It seemed absurd that the Guignons did know this man had dementia one week before when he brought him to our home to introduce him to us. The problems kept recurring and mistakes were nonstop. We trusted the Guignons to finish the job properly. This was just the beginning of the project. He stated that he would reduce the project by $1,500.00 due to the errors and since the patio we had was strong and in much better shape than initially thought. After we reviews the project with the homeowner, we submitted a written proposal to them. At that time they wanted us to work on the patio. They signed the proposal and agreed that there were no warranties or guarantees (written on proposal). They did not pay everything upfront only a small deposit. As the work progressed, we would take additional money. They were very pleased with the work and submitted a "thank you" letter to us. While working on the patio, there were unforeseen problems with the underlying structure. We did not charge anything additional but fixed the problems at no extra cost to the customer. After finally completing the project, we requested payment but did not receive the final check. We WERE NOT FIRED from the project. The patio was complete, inspected by the county and approved. We did additional work such as removing extra trees in the back, laying extra sod, repairing other sod areas at no cost to the customer. Approximate value of additional work - $2,000.

Description of Work: I used Blue Moon Nursery and Garden Center for landscaping. They took out all the bushes that came with the property and put them into pots. They then covered everything with red mulch.

When you call them, they answer the phone; we are finding that unusual around here. They call you before the appointment time to make sure everything is okay and that you are home, and they call again after the job is done. The price is a hair high, but I haven't checked prices elsewhere so I'm not positive. When we had problems with the landscaping, they were here the next day. We will definitely use them again and, in fact, I am getting ready to call them now.
Description of Work: Blue Moon Nursery & Garden Center did some landscaping, buried a drain underground, and fixed our sprinkler system.

I will never use or reccomend this company to anyone. The owner was arrogant and the workers were terrible.
Description of Work: All they had to do was run 3 lines from my leaders to let the water drain from the gutters. They sent 2 men who could not speak a word of English and when I tried to tell them I wanted the water traps closer to the street they had no clue what I was saying and put them in the wrong spot. I had to dig a trench and move them myself.

Response from Blue Moon Garden Center
The work was completed in June, 2009. Our supervisor was there to start the job and the customer and supervisor agreed on the location of the drains which were marked. The customer was given the cell # of the supervisor in case he had any questions. The customer was also advised that if the drains did not work properly, they would be moved at no cost. The owner and supervisor stopped at the customer's home but he would not answer the door or his phone.
