I had a terrible experience with this contractor and wound up having to hire someone else to finish the work, repair items improperly done as well as clean up. In my opinion the quality of the work was poor and I found interactions to be combative as soon as work started. Furthermore, it seemed to me that there was an interest in doing the minimum instead of doing the work correctly. In no way would I recommend this company.

He came to my place for estimated for a very large remodel. Then told me what architect to use. Then when I paid the architect and showed him the plans, he did not like them. He complained to me about the architect that he recommended; instead of complaining to his recommended architect, he constantly complained to me. Then he said it was taking too long and just sent me an email walking off the job. Very Unprofessional. Had to start all over getting a new contractor to work with the plans of his recommended architect.
Description of Work: He totally wasted my time. Nothing but spent months complaining and wasting my time

Response from Charleston Homeworx LLC
Mr. [Member name] asked me to meet with him to review his proposed project. I did meet with him and gave him some ideas. I gave him the names of several architects I have worked with on other projects. He hired an architect to draw up plans and I met with him again to review the project. Mr [Member name] was very confrontational and argumentative during that meeting. He wanted things done like he wanted them done, even if they were not normal building practice or compliance. I realized I would not be able to establish a satisfying working relationship with Mr. [Member name] and called him the next day to advise him I was too busy to take on his job and recommended he find someone else to do his work. He called me several times pleading with me to reconsider stating he was sorry, "he just knows how he likes things". I said I was sure he could find someone he could work with and wished him well on his project.

Ed Heavy, the owner of the company is in principle a good contractor. His crew I consider pleasant and knowledgable. Overall his work is excellent. Unfortunately, he did some things very wrong. First, he picked some sub-contractors of questionable qualities. The electrician performed only a portion of his duties, the rest was done by him. The painters were a desiaster needing to be recalled three times, the work is still incomplete, and the plumbing was taken over at the end by Ed as well. Upon my complains to him his response was that "this here isn't Kiawah". My trust in this company reached a very low point when I detected that the square footage of the deck was considerable less than he had charged us. Upon his insistence that his calculation was right, I let the engineer who had provided the plans recalculate the area from the original drawing. The deficit amounted to about 70 square feet. Since drawings and actual square foot numbers could deviate I let another contractor measure the deck area independently. The numbers were a little less but still amounted to a relatively large square foot deviation from his numbers. In addition, the work took much longer than planned. Meanwhile Mr. Heavy had taken up another job at Kiawah and the job at our house became secondary. I felt like I acted as the general contractor trying to overlook the work by others. Before we signed the contract, he stated that he would be on site every day. In the beginning this was true but later he was less committed. In the powder room he installed a wainscot with cheap material. The connection from on sheet to the other left a noticeable eyesore . The work should have been completed within three months. It took five months. Based on these facts, I would not consider him for future work.
Description of Work: Provider enclosed porch, installed windows, doors, floor, fan and chandeliers, removed two walls to make living area more open, built an addition and large deck around the addition, replaced old brick floors in powder room and library with hardwood and renovated other portions of the powder room.

We had a tenant unexpectedly move out, and another tenant looking to move in; both on short notice. The townhouse was in need of some TLC, and Homeworx was able to get all the work done in time, on price, and in a professional manner. We had one day when the painters did not show up on time, but outside of that one incident, eveything went well.
Description of Work: Painted the townhouse, replaced some old windows, repairs to the roof.

Charleston Homeworx and its owner, Ed Heavey, have been one of the finest experiences of my life in dealing with outside contractors or workers. His price was more than fair, he was extremely pleasant and accommodating and the people who worked for him or whom he had subcontracted with to do the plumbing and painting were great. The workmanship is precise and efficient and his two main workers, Sean and Adam, helped us with several other things that arose doing the job. They were honest and amazingly clean - every night just before they left they cleaned up the odd pieces of wood and dirt that came as a result of their work. The actual work entailed taking out the existing shower, removing the bathtub, building a wall for the new tiled shower, laying down a plywood floor to make it more sturdy for the tiled floor, they installed the new plumbing and shower fixtures that we had personally bought, they changed our water line from our water tank to the shower from half inch to three quarter inch, replaced the floor molding, repainted the entire bathroom, installed the two new vanities that we had purchased, put a plywood top over them to prepare them for a tiled counter and put on their hardware. Anyone looking to remodel their home - or to build a new one - should look no further. There are a lot of listed contractors in Charleston, but it would be just about impossible to find anyone that is better than Charleston Homeworx or Ed Heavey and his associates. I would use him again in a minute, and we are now doing just that, in expanding our deck. We live in RiverTowne in Mt. Pleasant. If anyone is interested in actually seeing Ed's workmanship, we would be happy to have Ed show you the work that he has done in our house. Allan Grody

I will hire them again for any further remodeling and recommend them for roofing. We are very pleased with their work.
Description of Work: In September we remodeled the kitchen. They redid walls, added new installation, improved electrical wiring and put up new walls. Painted, added new inside doors, trim and lights. Previously they also redid the hallway and Family room. Excellent roofers!

He has done a lot of work for me over the last month and a half. The experience was fantastic. I would recommend him to anyone who is looking for a carpenter. The things that stood out the most to me was how fair his prices were, the quality of the work was excellent, and his availability to do things not at a short notice, but when I needed it to be done. The work was done pretty quickly.
Description of Work: I hired Charleston Homeworx LLC for carpentry work ad refinishing last weekend.
