His van had broken down on him. He was a nice guy, but he was having some mechanical issues. As far as getting the quote from him, he was very responsive. He actually came out the same day. I was kind of under the gun on this job and I needed to get done. He was very responsive joining on the spot, but I think he ran into some trouble.

I did not use them. They do painting only and I went with another contractor who could do painting, carpentry and finishing everything else because it was easier for me and I wouldn't have to worry about scheduling people. Their price was reasonable. The guy was professional. I remember a couple of contractors who did not give me a written quote and Vanderhorst Painting too did not give me a written quote and that was the major problem I had with them. I felt it was a problem because people need to take the time and make a professional presentation which is a written quote. The amount of work was about $6000 and based on that if I don't have in writing, I don't have anything to go back to if there was a disagreement.

Al Vanderhorst was very pleasant to engage with on the proposal process. He was on time for the house review and prompt to answer all questions. His proposal was only verbal, which hindered my comparison with the other bidders. His bid was the highest of five I received.

I needed this painting job done quick. Mr Vanderhorst was very reasonable in price and was able to get my job done in the time frame I requested. Very good job.

He absolutely went above and beyond what he needed to do! He gave me an excellent price which we agreed upon, and then did extra work that I was not expecting him to do. He offered to repair and re-paint the bathroom ceiling, which had had a leak, and he did not charge me at all. I would definitely use him again in the future.
