Description of Work: The best thing about Tim Shaw is that he is not satisfied with his own work unless it is 100% to his & your satisfaction. Very reasonable & fair pricing. We appreciate that Tim is very up front about which jobs he feels he can accomplish & which ones he would prefer not to attempt. We have had Tim do several jobs for us, including removal/replacement of an exterior door and doorframe, installation of a new storm door, replacing light fixtures, Sheetrock repair, painting, etc. If you are able to be flexible to work with Tim's schedule, you will not be disappointed with this honest, detailed handyman!

I had reviews about him a few months ago.....got his contact number thru Angie's List.....kept meaning to call him...about 10 days ago my home burned....I needed to move furnitiure into my garage......but my garage needed a new extenal door replacement unit because rain would come beneath the very old wooden door and flood...since I lost my computer to the fire...and also my contact number for him, I decided (out of desperation) to trust the contractor I hired to renovate my home.... to replace the old door with a new unit. BOY!! what an unbelievable experience that was........ I had already ordered an expensive steel / fiberglass unit before the fire at my home...it turns out that the unit that the contractor picked up was a left-handed unit ...BUT it should have been a right-handed door unit....( a right-handed unit had been removed by the contractor...which took about 3 hours for him to do....) While I was busy sorting thru the debris of what belongings I had hoped to recover, I first came downstairs and noticed that the contractor(licensed) was pulling out the new unit because he had tried to put it in BACKWARDS......It startled me, but I thought I was over-reacting bec. I was already upset about losing my valuables ...... so I went back upstairs to keep working....and about 5pm ..when leaving for the day....I realized that after an entire day (at the tune of $35/ hour), my door unit was not installed...instead of asking me if I had decided to change the swing of the door ...which would have made no sense.....he decided to just jamb the top of an expensive door unit in to cover the spot where the old door had been...I COULDN'T believe it!!!!...he had packed up and left without telling me.......and I couldn't understand what he had actually accomplished all day!!! I had to then get people to help unjamb the top of the door so I could return it myself.....I didn't get and quot;homeand quot; 'til 8:30pm that nite.... the next morning I immediately quit my contractor....who said to me and quot; You mean you don't want my man to finish installing your door unit?...my response was and quot; YOUR MAN doesn,t know what the heck he is doing....my and quot;contractorand quot; responded with and quot; O' yes he does!!!! I found out later from friends who were there, that he circled the perimiter of my home all day talking on his cell phone...while I was inside working like a dog.... ANYWAY.....I got Tim's number...called him late in the afternoon....told him I desperately needed his help..bec. now I had NO DOOR...NO NOTHING...securing my garage....HE WAS VERY NICE....and met me the next morning....RIGHT ON TIME...as promised......and he had that entire unit installed ...including hardware....in NO TIME.....simply because HE KNEW WHAT HE WAS DOING.....he even had to replace screws that had been stripped..and also had to find a suitable strike-plate to fit the EXPENSIVE door hardware...that the so-called contractor had thrown away.... I CAN'T TELL YOU HOW GOOD IT FELT TO WATCH HIM IN ACTION.......out of desperation...I had trusted the WRONG PEOPLE...bec. they seemed nice...NOT CHEAP...but nice....OUT OF A HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE...came a GREAT ONE...Tim Shaw came thru for me....he showed me that there are honest people out there.....he didn't take advantage of my situation...he could have taken longer...made it seem harder, etc.....BUT HE DIDN'T.... and I have found from past experience...that SKILLED carpenters take their jobs seriously.. don't waste time...CARE about their work....and don't get called back bec. of mistakes that they made..BECAUSE they DO IT RIGHT the first time..a simple philosophy that works for everybody!!!!!!!...I might add, that before he left, he handed me all the material that my and quot;contractorand quot; had bought with MY money...TO TAKE BACK.....bec. the material wasn't needed....made no issue of it...just told me to get my money back...then left.... IN MY DEFENSE.....after reading reviews, Tim Shaw was my first choice.....however, the fire changed everything......I was numb....and trusted the WRONG PEOPLE....never dreaming that they would charge me $35 to $45/hour for unskilled common laborers( which they insist are SKILLED)..... I had been thru a devastating experience....one I wouldn't wish on ANYBODY.... and I have no hard feelings toward a VERY KIND man who felt this contractor would treat me fairly.... I am still thankful for the advice he gave me about what I needed to do to save what I could in my house.... I believe that good people have no need to advertise..( I have never advertised in my business)....just get your name and number out there...and if you are worthy.....word of mouth..is your best advertisement......PERIOD !!!! P.S. ....I am a woman....and can ONLY BELIEVE that this LICENSED CONTRACTOR figuered (bec. I had a business) I either wouldn't be around or wouldn't know that I was being taken advantage of..UNFORTUNATELY FOR HIM, my past experience has been with SKILLED people who treated me fairly...and I never questioned their work...bec. they knew what they were doing....and I WAS NEVER THERE...bec. I had to be at work.....it made absolutely no difference to them...and I have never had to call them back bec. of LOUSY WORK..... and quot;IF YOU GOT SOMETHING 'ROUND THE HOUSE THAT AIN'T BEEN DONE YET.....CALL TIM..YOU WON'T REGRETand quot; Anne Cisa
Description of Work: This is a very courteous, nice man. He showed professionalism and wasted no time doing the work of a skilled carpenter. I will definitely call him in the future. He offered advise when asked......not pushy in any way.... If you have put off things that need fixing, repair, or installation because you didn't know who to trust or who to call....give this man a call....I'm GLAD I DID !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!THANK YOU, MR. SHAW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Response from Tim Shaw Maintenance Inc
I appreciate the good recommendations. I just wanted to say that while I do want good ratings on Angie's list, I try to do quality work whether it is for an Angie's list customer or any other customer. Thanks, Tim

It went well. Tim was prompt and polite. He warned us that he may not be able to fix the dishwasher but was happy to look at it. He determined he was unable to fix it, but had a great attitude. He quickly fixed the towel bar, the toilet paper holder, and the sliding door, and he was here less than an hour. Since he charges by the hour, I was very pleased that he did not drag things out and was efficient and moved quickly. We discussed other projects for him in the future before he left.

Excellent. Done on time, as always.
Description of Work: My most recent project with Tim was to complete a door replacement and some interior repairs for one of our rental properties. This was a small project compared to many others he has completed for me and clients over the past four years (I have an interior decorating service). Tim and his assistant (who also is wonderful) have handled carpentry work, interior and exterior painting, and general handyman repairs (plumbing, installing ceiling fans, etc.). They have even helped with a number of window treatment installations, which are very tricky! Since at times I am working with clients, I need someone I can trust and who's appearance is very professional. I can always count on Tim to be there on time and to represent me in the best manner possible. Tim is also a master gardener through the Clemson University extension program, so while I have not used his landscaping service yet, he has given me loads of valuable advice on plants and plant maintenance. I fully recommend Tim and his services.

Tim responded immediately to my e mail and provided an estimate the next day. Work did not start for a week due to the Thanks Giving Holiday. But he and his assistant Jimmy arrived promptly as scheduled and completed the work except the laundry room painting the same day. The laundry room painting was not originally planned so was not completed until the next day. Both Tim and Jimmy were cordial, professional, respectful of our family and home and easy to be around.
Description of Work: Picked up and installed cabinets in laundry room. Replaced weather stripping around exit doors. Re painted fire place mantel piece and sanded and painted door trim damaged by our dogs. Re caulked kitchen backsplash. Painted laundry room. Attempted to install a door closer but the interior shutter was in the way and we agreed to stop the attempt.

It went great. Tim is a professional and a very nice person. We couldn't have been happier. We will definitely use him again!
Description of Work: Tim installed a new entry door and installed a wall mount dog door. When Tim removed the old frame and old door he found some rotted wood around the door frame. The door had not been installed properly before so he fixed it and made it to where it wouldn't happen again. He painted the door and it looks great. Much more energy efficient, as the previous door let lots of air inside the house. Tim then installed a huge dog door in the wall. He made sure circumvent the electric wires that were in the area and installed the proper siding to not allow water to get in. It looks awesome, like it has always been there!
