I take these matters to heart, thus, my long response. I am simply shocked. Just amazed to be truthful, at her report. We were fully booked. She calls up in the am and I told her we were fully booked and this was not an emergency. She had another fly by night contractor who had abandoned her awhile back and had previously cut out the pipes under the house and she JUST found out that raw sewage had been draining under there....because the new contractor had just found this out. He told her to call a plumber. Her toilet had been draining under there, for who knows how long, but many, many weeks if not months. Seeing as it had been like that for a long while, I didn't feel as though it had to be done this very instant. Still, I told her I felt "sorry" for her and I would TRY to have someone out there around noon as I had a guy in her area to "take a look at everything" and see what we could do. My guy informed me that the leak was coming from a water heater at his current job and they needed a new heater. He was on James Island (as this customer) and that he would be there a few hours because he had to drive back into town and get a heater, then go back out. I called her immediately and said that my guy was delayed, he now couldn't make it till around 5. Keep in mind she did NOT have an appointment and I am fitting her in out of kindness because she was distraught. We showed up, explained to her that she was correct, the guy had cut the pipes and it was draining under the home and this was an all day job and we would be back tomorrow to replace them all. Again, we were fully booked the next day also, but I rescheduled work just for her and we spent the entire next day out there replacing pipes, in an area, that was HORRIBLE. I am not aware of ANY company in town that would have even crawled under this house, through human excrement, that had been draining under a house for weeks / months. But we did for her. Now I get an F at punctuality giving this customer SAME DAY SERVICE WITH NO APPOINTMENT and next all day service without an appointment??? My goodness, I just do not understand, I just do not. Then we QUOTED HER A PRICE PRIOR TO DOING ANY WORK, as we always do. I do not understand how you can pre quote a price, have the customer accept the price, schedule it for the next day (giving her time to think about it) then turn around and give us a D on the price, especially after all the extra work we did out there? We performed a job over and above the call of duty, as the environment in which the work had to be completed was VERY hazardous and was at high risk. I mean as you can imagine, a toilet that has been flushed for weeks/months and was just dumping under the house is the worse case situation for us and we could have easily turned this job down. But we are about customer service and I do not like leaving my customers high and dry. Of course, common sense dictates, you would HAVE to lay down plastic on TOP OF THE WASTE so that you could crawl around on it to do the repairs. This WAS an all day job. Yes we showed up at 11, as she said, but customers always forget we are picking up materials for that job, so this was AFTER spending 1 1/2 hours at the supply house getting needed material and going to Lowe's to get a roll of plastic and then driving out to James Island. After we were complete and done, she said "what about all that sewer under the house, you ARE going to get rid of that, right?" We said no ma'am, just let it be, once it all dries up in a few weeks, which it will, as the water source has been stopped, it will not be much of an issue. She said "well I want YOU to go under there and SCRAPE it ALL OUT and get rid of it??? No ma'am, we are plumbers, we are not a cleaning crew. We have done what we needed to do, be thankful we crawled around under there and took care of an issue, not many others would have even been willing to do!!! If you feel you want it all removed (an all day job and a nasty job) wait for it all to dry up as I said in a few weeks and then hire someone to do it, though I am NOT AWARE of any company that offers a service of cleaning out raw sewage under a house. It is EVERYWHERE under there. What makes you think as plumbers, that we would clean it all up for you and that this was part of our estimate? This is not our job. I am sorry you think this is our job, but it is not and certainly, we did not tell you we WOULD clean it all up as part of our estimate. You may have ASSUMED that, but you never asked us about it, nor would we have ever dreamed you would have assumed we would have cleaned it all up for you. That would be a first in 35 years in business. There are disaster companies that would MAYBE go under there and suck all that stuff up, but they will charge you a fortune, wearing hazmat suits and such, but it is not our job to do so.... We are plumbers, and we did the plumbing aspect of the job. So here I am, trying to be nice and show compassion and empathy for a customer by fitting her in when we were booked, doing a job for her few others would have even done to begin with and then getting a horrible review because we wouldn't clean out her crawlspace for her as well as fix the plumbing!!! But the old adage, no good deed goes unpunished, comes to mind. And now, because of this ONE issue, we get a D on price, an F on punctuality and professionalism and a C on quality....which is funny because she has no clue if what we did was quality or not, because she refuses to even LOOK inside of there, much less crawl around in there to be able to judge of the quality of our work. I TRIED discussing this with her, after reading this report, but it was to no use. She said I was "harassing her" and would call the police if I contacted her again. WOW!!!! Here I am trying to call her to see if we can come to some sort of agreement to make her happy and now she is going to call the police? For ONE phone call??? She said maybe this how I got so many A's on Angie's List, by "harassing my customers." I think it is quite evident this customer has some real personal issues and she is taking out her frustration of having the original contractor do her wrong. We SHOULD have been her hero's.....and now we are garbage who she is going to call the police on? My, my, what is happening to the world? She just went on and on and on about how we should have cleaned it all up and did not communicate with her ALL DAY as we did the work??? I do not see how that is possible, I spent 20 mins with her on the phone, my guy Joshua, spent 45 mins with her on site going over EVERY aspect of the job the night before and spent all of the next day under her house installing new pipes….kind of hard to communicate with a customer when we are under their house I ask my customers to try and focus on our impeccable rating and reputation for the last 5 years on Angie's List and to concentrate on all the other A's we have earned by giving our customers excellent service and going the extra mile for them that few do anymore. I cannot control the few bad apples. When you have over 250 reports, sooner or later you are going to get a report like this. I take it VERY personally when we do not get an A on EVERY job we do. We have over 240 A's out of 250 reports, almost a perfect score. It is a shame that 1% will not be happy no matter what, as I do strive for a 100% success rate. I do not believe in 99%. Without YOU, there is NO ME. I take this matter to heart and am always upset when we get anything other than an A. But in this case, I just do not know what to do, as the only apparent way to make her happy would be to clean out her crawl space for free and spend the day doing it. I feel I must draw the line in the sand on this one.
