This went very badly. I could hardly sleep last night thinking what a waste of money it was. I would gladly have paid a reasonable amount and slept soundly. But, $269 for what he did is highway robbery.
Description of Work: Several "GFCI" outlets on our porches did not work. We tried resetting all of the outlets inside on the first floor to no avail. So, we assumed the problem was more than we could handle. I found the number in the Yellow Pages (what was I thinking when I am a member of Angie's List!) and called it. They said someone would be out within an hour. It actually was almost 2 hours before the technician arrived. He spent time looking for outlets to reset. Finally we found it (after 45 minutes of "troubleshooting") in our upstairs laundry room. So, sort of dumb on our part: We should have exhaustively tried every single outlet in every room before calling an electrician, but a friend said that it would have been on the first floor. Anyway, the tech wrote up the bill which stated that he "fixed" four outlets outside and two upstairs. And the bill was $269! For less than 45 minutes of time spent. I couldn't believe it, but was too shocked to say anything at the time except to ask if it was the hourly rate. He actually said that they don't have an hourly rate, but that the fee is based on the job. So, resetting an outlet costs $269. I can only imagine how bad it would have been had if he had to do something "real." Perhaps because we live in a nice neighborhood he thought I wouldn't care how much the bill was. But, I will never ever call them again! And I would recommend that you don't call them either. But, some of the blame is mine: I should have found out how much they charged in advance. I just couldn't imagine it would be more than $150 for less than 45 minutes on the job.
