Shaun and his team arrived and did a demolition of my back deck in September. Since then - no contact, no back stairs, no back railing. Extremely dangerous situation. Constant excuses. He did send a screen guy out (photos of that work follows) but it was so shoddy I had to get another company to remove.

Was given Shaun's contact info from a friend who mentioned he did good work. Called and Shaun picked up (not with Port City Roofing this is Shaun but just Hello). I explained who I was and that I wanted to get a quote to replace my roof. He took down my name and address. We agreed to meet Wed morning at my house at 10 am. I was worried after reading some of the reviews about his responsiveness but gave him the benefit of the doubt. I took off work and was waiting for Shaun. 10 am turned to 11 am and still no sign. I called Shaun asking if he come make it by 12:30 (that I really wanted him to quote as I heard he does good work). No phone call, no text, no e-mail. I am about to spend thousands of dollars for a new roof and I shouldn't have to beg someone to show up when he agreed to. Half of what you are are paying for the is the customer service and follow up. I expected more!

Shaun and his crew do a great job! He was referred to me from my realtor who has used him for 18 years. He was the lowest price out of 4 other roofing companies. Very professional from start to finish. They came back and cleaned our gutters and trimmed a tree for us at no charge. We have used Port City Roofing for 5 of our roofs and we could not be more happier.

We hired Port City Roofing last year to replace our 16 year old shingles on our roof after getting several quotes. Shaun was very responsive during the quote process, as others have stated. They came and did the roof in one day and it looked "ok", not great though. I had to request they come and cover up some of the flashing with shingles as it looked bad when they were done. They did this within a couple of weeks. Afterwards, we noticed they left a significant amount of tar on our siding when removing the old roof. This does not come off with a simple power wash cleaning and we are still stuck with this mess. We voiced our concerns and were given the "I'll come look next week" which never happened. We tried many times to arrange this and either the voicemail is full or emails are not returned or simply returned with "I'll come by to take a look" which never happens. Fast forward a year later, and we developed a significant leak by one of the pipe vents. We told Shaun about this and he sent his guys the next day. They said it was caused by pine straw? They said they fixed it and we were good. One week later it rained again and the same leaking in the same spot occurred. We told Shaun again and he said he would come look. That never happened. Giving up, we paid out of pocket for another reputable company to come fix it which they did and did a fine job. I would definitely not recommend going with this company unless you want no response after paying if something goes wrong.

Description of Work: Replaced the roof on my house. Got a written estimate for a roof replacement but right before starting the job Shaun gave a verbal agreement to replace the rotting fascia. The main job was completed in a week but the fascia was left unfinished and the contractor asked to be paid. I withheld the approximate cost of fascia replacement and paid the rest. I had to repeated ask the contractor to finish the job over the course of two months. Contractor often ignored my emails. When they finally came to do the fascia they did an incomplete job. I hired another contractor to finish the job. Later Shaun sent me some unprofessional emails, insulted the other contractor and threatened to take me to court if I didn't pay the bill for work he didn't do. I was in the middle of a home sale so I was forced to pay rather than jeopardize my home sale with a legal battle. Save yourself the trouble and wait for a reputable roofer to become available. If you must use port city then get everything in writing and make sure you don't mind waiting months for the job to be completed.

After receiving several quotes for roof replacement and repair of structural flaw, we chose to go with Port City Roofing. They came highly recommended from a few people and undersold their competitors by several thousand dollars. We had a proposal and contract for the roof to be replaced and the structural flaw fixed. The work was completed in September 2012. June 2015. In the process of trying to sell our home, we had a rigorous inspection completed by the buyer's inspector of choice. The inspector found several issues with our roofing structure. The chimney needs to be strapped which is an issue that was never even brought up during our communications with Shaun or while the work was being completed. An expert roofer should have at least brought it up and offered to include it in his services. The biggest issue is that the structural flaw was not fixed and is being flagged as an issue. We have made several attempts to contact Shaun. The two times we got him on the phone, he seemed very unconcerned that there is a problem with his work. He has not come to inspect the roof himself to address the problems the inspector has flagged. At this point, he doesn't answer the phone or return our calls when a voicemail is left. We have the original emails and proposal spelling out what this company was supposed to do. They did not execute that "contract" correctly and now refuse to fix their mistakes. We are going to have to pay another roofing company to come in and fix the issue that this company has already been paid to correct. The price may seem right. But remember you get what you pay for... and in this case its terrible craftsmanship and horrible customer service. Buyer Beware. Go with another company even if it means spending a little more money.

2/2/2015: Shaun Laursen of Port City Roofing unexpectedly came to my home in response to my unanswered email request for a free estimate, which I had sent to him about two weeks prior to his unscheduled visit. We discussed the scope of the work I needed to be done for two possible replacement roofs on my home; asphalt singles, or a standing seam metal roof. He agreed to submit a proposal and estimate for each roof system, which he did on 2/4/2015. After several missed appointments by Mr. Laursen and numerous email communications between us, many with long response times from Mr Laursen over the next two months to clarify his proposal, we agreed to a meeting at my home at 2:00 PM on 4/8/2015 to draw up a final contract. I set my afternoon aside to meet Mr. Laursen and waited from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM for his arrival but he failed to keep the appointment, did not phone, and did not email me to provide me with the courtesy of an explanation. 4/9/2015: I emailed Mr. Laursen and expressed my disappointment, and he responded saying; "I was there at 2:15 and knocked on all of the doors. I dont have your phone number." As I replied to him, his excuse was very surprising since my home is small (all three doors within earshot with each other) and I was here expecting him, even looking out for his arrival from 1 to 5 PM, and never saw his truck, heard a doorbell or a knock. The generous conclusion is he went to the wrong house, but based on my over two months of dealing with him, he again failed to keep an appointment and was not professional enough to provide a plausible explanation. To give him the benefit of the doubt I told him I would be home the entire day, April 9th, if he would like to try again to meet. As of today, May 5, 2015, and after much wasted time and effort, he has not responded, obviously not wanting the job but not forthright enough to say so. Use this roofer at your own peril and be sure to get a detailed contract if you do.

The proposal process went great. He submitted a detailed proposal and a good price and was very responsive during this process. The roof itsself looks great. After we moved in, a leak was noticed. This is were the trouble began. He scheduled to meet us at 10am that morning to look at the leak, and didn't show up or call. I sent him an email and he said he would be there at 2pm. Still nothing. I called him back, no answer again. He showed up at 3:30pm. He tested our roof with the waterhose and the leak didn't show up, but he wanted his final payment. He assured me I would get warranty paperwork the next day (this never happened), and if the issue came back that would start working to fix the roof and he would continue to be responsive. One to two weeks later, we noticed a water spot in the same general area. I called Sean on a Wednesday and he missed my call. His voicemail is perpetually full and he is either unwilling or incapable of fixing it, so you can never leave a message. He called me back promptly, I missed his, but tried to return it within 5 minutes to no avail. So I emailed him, apologizing for missing his call and told him I would keep my phone on me and available the rest of the day. He never called back. We got busy Thursday and Friday, so I didn't get to call him back again until Monday of hte next week, I called twice, no answer, full voicemail, so it is not possible to leave him a message. I sent him an email on Wednesday of the second week and received a response. He told me he would have people at our house at 9am the next morning and committed to calling me back within two hours to confirm. He never called back again. I emailed him again today. We will see if it gets fixed. At this point, I would not recommend him or use him ever again. If you do, you should withhold payment until he gets you everything you need and you know you don't have any leaks.

Sean's crew replaced the ridge vents but after our first rain we had awful leaking from the ridge vents that we originally had no issues with. Sean was not responsive and when he finally did show up he stated that he replaced a few and we wouldn't have any more issues. They leaked again and weeks went by before he showed up with the vent manufacturer. Two more weeks went by and still we heard nothing from Sean. During this whole time we were trying to call and text Sean. It's now been 3 months since the ordeal started and we still have our original leak and new additional leaks. We decided that when the new vents came in from the manufacturer that we did not want Sean to do the job. We hired a new roofer to complete the job and it was done the CORRECT way and in a timely manner.
Description of Work: We first had Sean Larson re-roof our rental home on IOP and we were happy with his work so we decided to have him come by our home to fix a leak we had coming from one of the peaks in our roof. Sean recommended we have our ridge vents replaced and we agreed.

Response from Port City Roofing
This is a false claim. I don't understand why the member's girlfriend is trying to hurt my business and my family? We have done projects for this family in the past and they have always been happy. We have 6000 happy customers in Mount Pleasant and we would never not call someone back. They where having several roof leaks and I told them that they needed a new roof. The member decided that he would try to "nurse this old roof along" and patch it. I told him that the probelm with that is if you fix one area another could pop up later. We installed new ridge vents for $465.00 which was below cost but, since he had referred me to neighbors I would do it out of my pocket. Why would someone refer me to their neighbors if they did not like our work? We even had the manufacture represenatative drive down from Wilmington, NC to inspect the work we did and he agreed that we had installed the ridge vent properly but, due to the poor condition of the old shingles around the vent it was possible that the old shingles could be leaking or the air condition unit was condensating. We came back to the house 4 different times. The homeowner called me while I was in the hospital with my wife having our first child when the member called, I called him back 2 days later after we got out of the hospital and he never returned my call. Our office is accross the street from his house...why would I not come back?? We have 6000 happy customers in Mount Pleasant including this homeowners father and neighbors. I do not understand why they are trying to hurt our company repution and my family after I was nice enough to offer to do the work for my cost? We have been in business for 12 years and we are very proud that 90% of our projects are referred by past customers. It's funny that she could not take the time to write anything positive about all of the nice work we did on her family's beach rental and her neighbors but, she could take the time to write something hateful and false when she did not even know what was going on or what her boyfriend had ask me to do... Please check our customer reveiws on Google.com. The member or his girlfriend are welcome to call me anytime at 901-9006. This is a false claim. Shaun Laursen
