Michael performed a very comprehensive home inspection for us. We could not be present, but his report was submitted within hours of completing the inspection and was very thorough. He covered very aspect of the inspection in detail and submitted all back up data to support his conclusions. When we called him to discuss the report he was very giving of his time and answered all of our questions with detailed answers. He was very prompt, extremely professional and easy to deal with. We also felt that his charges were very fair. Things couldn't have gone smoother. We would recommend him highly to anyone looking for a home inspector in the area.

Although the scheduling went a little rough, I was pleasantly suprised at how knowledgeable and personable Mike was. It was obvious that Mike knows his stuff and he enjoys inspecting homes. I would HIGHLY recommend that potential buyers show up and stay for the entire inspection. It may take longer but you will get all the details, professional opinions, and inflection on the big ticket items that you will not get in a printed report. There were a few things that did not end up in the final report that Mike noted during the inspection like some trim work along the roof without paint, celing fan with wires exposed etc., a few that we would not have known about had we not been there. Mike was very thorough and explained things in detail (and in laymens terms) which I thought was above and beyond. We also followed up with a call so he could give us some advice and again, he was very helpful. I would recommend A to Z to anyone- just make sure to pick a date and time that you know will work out for both of you! I would have given a solid "A" had we not had the scheduling issue. Fortunately, professionalism came through, we worked it out and ended up with a good inspection!

I do not know how to suspend this review but am working toward a resolution to this issue with A to Z. He was very professional and responsive on the phone. I insisted on having him based on Angie's List reviews. I was not present for the inspection because I was out of town but the sellers wanted to close by a certain date. In order to accommodate them, we had the inspection done when they (the sellers) were present. The house was rented the day of closing so I couldn't go in it. I have had three contractors here and all three of them are aghast at what was missed. I have visible mold on the ceiling which led us to a leak in the metal roof that was missed. That only cost me an additional $200+. Then, I discovered that almost every window in the house was rotted out! The wood is literally rotted out. This alone is going to cost me about $20,000. That is right, $20,000!!! He says was told by the seller at the time of his inspection that they getting a contractor to quote replacing the windows so he did not focus on those. I would not have purchased this house if I had known that! I am breathless. I have been asked by all three contractors if I considered hiring an attorney.I am devastated and highly recommend that if you use A to Z, be present at the time.

Response from A to Z Home Inspections
Member Comments: He was very professional and responsive on the phone. I insisted on having him based on Angie's List reviews. A to Z: Thank You - I try very hard to be and truly have my clients best interests in mind at all times. I was not present for the inspection because I was out of town but the sellers wanted to close by a certain date. In order to accommodate them, we had the inspection done when they (the sellers) were present. The house was rented the day of closing so I couldn't go in it. A to Z: Clients are urged strongly to attend ALL inspections so that all the pictures can be reviewed during the on-site verbal report – neither you nor your Realtor were present. I have had three contractors here and all three of them are aghast at what was missed. I have visible mold the ceiling which led us to a leak in the metal roof that was missed $$$. A to Z: Leaks in the roof coverings were found and a callout was made to have a licensed Roofing Contractor make the needed repairs. “Repair or Replace (Picture 1-3) Flashing element active leak above the dining room (sun room addition) (Picture 4) Shows area from outside - the skirt flashing above the addition). Recommend repairs by a licensed roofing contractor.” Further elaboration: Had a licensed roofing contractor gotten on the roof to search for and repair leaking flashings this would likely not be an issue after you closed. You did not have the repairs made but instead escrowed monies to make the repairs after you closed. Then, I discovered that almost every window in the house was rotted out! The wood is literally rotted out. A to Z: Defective windows were noted during the inspection and a callout made for a licensed specialty contractor (windows) to repair. “Repair or Replace Condensation was apparent in the master bedroom and front guest bedroom (4 panes at least) during the inspection. Recommend repair or replacement by a licensed specialty (windows) contractor”. Further elaboration: Had a contractor come to do the work the rot would have been discovered – that’s why the ‘estimates’ you got from the sellers contractor are of little use – you did not have any of the callouts repaired prior to closing on the home. When I contacted this inspector, he said that the windows do not fall under the structure that he is supposed to check and therefore he is not responsible for them. This alone is going to cost me about $20,000. That is right, $20,000!!! A to Z: What I replied to was the pictures of your toes and the cracked grout in the tiles near the back door of a home used as a vacation rental. That was not the primary focus of my inspection and your assertion that I said ‘the windows do not fall under the structure that I’m supposed to check and therefore am not responsible for them’ is libelous as posted. What gets me is that there was apparently a window contractor present at the time of his inspection to give the sellers a quote on replacing the windows. How did that not tip him off! A to Z: There was no one else present but me, the seller and the appraiser for the last 15 minutes or so of the inspection. What I relayed to the client and her Realtor via telephone immediately after the inspection was that the seller claimed a window contractor was coming later that day to inspect the windows and give her an estimate for needed repairs; that she and her husband were aware that there were issues with the windows. I have read the contract again but do not see that windows would not fall under his responsibility. I would not have purchased this house if I had known that! Also, he failed to find the cause of the condensation under the house which is caused. by a leak in the air ducts. Add another $12,000! I am breathless. A to Z: Leaks or condensation in and from the ductwork and damaged drywall were found and a callout was made to have a licensed contractor oversee and supervise the needed repairs. Repair or Replace (Picture 1&2) Signs of microbial growth are present on ceiling in several areas of the garage. All the observed areas were directly beneath the concealed ductwork which dripping onto (and in picture 1 dripping through the drywall (Picture 3) is a probably leak around the drain plumbing from the bath or kitchen area above the area pictured. Recommendations for repair and remediation will involve removal of substantial amounts to drywall to correct. Recommend repairs and remediation be supervised by a licensed contractor specializing in these type issues. I have been asked by all three contractors if I considered hiring an attorney. I am devastated and highly recommend that you do not use this person.

Mike was very professional. He explained the whole inspection process thoroughly yet it was very easy to understand for someone who has never been through it before. I arrived an hour and a half after he arrived. Upon my arrival he showed me pictures of what was inspected and he explained any defects or concerns. Not only that, he also had tips and recommendations for things that aren't covered in the normal home inspection. I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a reliable home inspector.

If Angie's List had an A++ option, Mike at A to Z inspections would get it. The home inspection went fantastic and we could not have asked for better service or more detail. Mike replied very quickly when we contacted him via his website. He did the inspection within a few days. The inspection was very thorough, much more than many of the other home inspectors in the area offered to do. He took many pictures, explained everything to us in person, and provided an extremely detailed report. I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a home inspection.

Description of Work: Mike did an inspection on a home I have under contract. I chose him based on his positive Angie's List reviews plus the added assessment he provides using thermal imaging to check for water leaks and energy efficiency. His price was comparable to others for the same service but his thoroughness and the quality of the inspection was far above other companies I have used in the past. His process was very detailed and he spent allot of time explaining everything to me as I tagged along. The report was exceptional and had great pictures of all findings. I would highly recommend Mike to anyone in need of a home inspection.

Great inspector. I was there for the inspection and he explained as much as I was willing to ask him about. After he did the inspection, he reviewed everything on his laptop for myself and my agent. Then he emailed the full report later that evening. Very knowledgeable, def someone who loves their job and enjoys doing their job well. His infrared camera is a big added plus -- it was very helpful to be able to "see" behind the walls -- the unusual bracing system within the modular wall panels -- and have infrared photographs that could be shown to contractors at a later date so they could have an accurate sense of what they might be dealing with.

It was a very thorough inspection including thermal imaging that identified several leaks in the walls. He spent a significant amount of time reviewing his findings with the real estate agent and me. This was very helpful as it eliminated any "surprises" during the remodeling process.

I scheduled an appointment for 4:30pm. He arrived at the property right on time. The townhouse is a foreclosure so I wanted to make sure I got a thorough inspection. Mike was on time, extremely professional, and went the extra mile making sure I understood the things he found. Overall, Mike took about 2 hours to inspect everything. When he was done, he loaded up all the pictures he took and went through them with me. He explained everything he was going to put in the report. The thermal imaging he uses helped find a couple of small leaks that will need to be addressed but would have likely gone unnoticed otherwise. He got the inspection report out to me the same night. Keep in mind that he didn't finish the inspection until 6:30pm but he still had the report in my email by 9:45pm. Mike's reports are extremely detailed and he takes the time to circle the actual problem in the document. There is no guessing about what the identified problem happens to be. Couldn't be happier with the services Mike provided. He is highly recommended.

Mike did an inspection on a piece of property I was considering purchasing. He took his time, was incredibly thorough, and answered all my questions. He found numerous small issues on the property and two that could lead to major future problems if not remedied. As a result I've asked for a larger financial concession from the seller before I'm willing to complete the purchase. He's also been there to advise me after the inspection. A great guy.

I didn’t enjoy it at all. I was actually pretty upset. I didn’t use my Realtor’s guy but about a quarter of the way through the home inspection I wished that I had listened to my real estate agent because he didn’t know who this man was. He showed up and he was nice to talk to at first. He said it would take about two hours to do the home inspection so my wife and I went five minutes down the street to eat breakfast. We were gone about half an hour and he called to say he was done and asked if we were going to be there. He said he had things to do and he didn’t want to sit around all day; he told us we needed to get back. I called my agent because he had planned on being there at 10:00 because the inspection started at 8:00. The only reason I met the inspector at the house was that I gave him the contract because I had made the payment through an online website. He was punctual but then he called me to come back because he didn’t want to waste his time at my house. It was only 35 minutes after we left. I called him back and told him my Realtor wasn’t going to be there and I didn’t want to go over the report without him. He said he couldn’t wait because he had to get going and that he would email the report and pictures to my Realtor. We didn’t want to miss out going over the house with him and we didn’t know if he was going to leave or not. We got there and he was just shooting the breeze with the builder of the house. He started talking to us about it and then my wife got upset because he was cursing a lot. I wasn’t catching on until he started showing us the pictures. She said, “Do you hear what he’s saying?” Then I started paying attention and I was hearing it as well. He basically flipped through the pictures and asked us if we had any questions. It was like, “Next, next, next, next, next.” He told me when I scheduled the appointment that he had a house that he had to go into their crawl space in the morning but that he would move them to the afternoon and he would do us in the morning. It wasn’t even 10:00 and he was trying to get us out as fast as he could. One of the reasons I decided to use him was because he uses thermal imaging for the walls. Even though it is a new house and it should be good, I wanted it checked to make sure it was EnergyStar. Right after he was done I asked him about the thermal imaging pictures. He hesitated and then he started showing us pictures. About that time my Realtor showed and he said he needed to see the pictures too. The inspector just went, “Ugh,” and he went through the pictures again. When he was done my agent asked me where I found the inspector. He said he had never had an inspector go that fast and that it was unprofessional rushing it through. I don’t know if they changed the times after I scheduled it but I know he finished it in less than 45 minutes when it was supposed to take two hours. We left our breakfast at the restaurant because we wanted to talk to him. We paid him a bunch of money and if he sent us the reports in an email, it wasn’t worth paying him to get out there. Maybe if he wasn’t busy and had time it would have been all right. I’d give him a C overall but my wife would probably give him an F. His price was the same as everyone else’s; he wasn’t lowballing anyone for what he was offering. As far as the pictures and the things he did, it was good. The thermal imaging was nice and he did a good job while he was here but he just wasn’t professional. He was here on time and he was very punctual in wanting to leave. He’s good at what he does but we weren’t treated as if it mattered. We felt we were just another house on an assembly line.

I was looking for a home inspector to check our new home...we are new to the area and don't have anyone who we could really trust to recommend one. This is the primary reason why I decided to sign up for Angie's List, I want honest feedback of people who provide services in the area....that's exactly what I got. A to Z Home Inspections, or Mike, really gave me a solid review of the home we are going to purchase. I love that he sent me an email, with details and pictures of what needed to be fixed. I'm very pleased with the service I received and would highly recommend him not only to friends but family.
Description of Work: Pre Dry Wall Inspection Mike is very thorough, he took pictures and noticed little details that we had completely over looked. I'm glad he came and did the pre dry wall inspection so we could bring these details to attention of the builder and have them corrected before they could just cover them up! He is very professional, promptly answered my calls, texts, emails, etc. I would recommend him to anyone who is thinking about hiring an inspector, whether it be new construction (like mine) or an existing home...you never know what issues need to be addressed! I will be contacting him again for the inspection before closing, THANK YOU MIKE! He's given me peace of mind knowing we will have not only a beautiful home, but most importantly safe!

Prompt initial response and scheduling. Very courteous and professional, on time and thorough with inspection. We are extremely pleased with Mike's work. He was punctual, professional, and personable. He performed a thorough inspection of the home and found a number of items that needed to be addressed. In addition to his extensive knowledge of home contruction, eletrical, plumbing, and local Codes Mike has a secret weapon, an infrared camera that can see through walls. By using the camera he was able to detect moisture from a leaking roof and from a faulty bathtub drain. Without this tool we would have bought the house not knowing that these things needed to be addressed. The total value of the things he found came to several thousand dollars, making the $300 inspection fee well worth the money. After the seller addressed all the issues Mike came back to the house for the re-inspection ($75 fee). This again was well worth the price becuase we discovered that the leaking tub drain was not completely fixed. I highly recommend A To Z Home Inspections because Mike knows his stuff, has the right tools for the job, and is a great guy to spend a little time with.

Mike does a great job and takes his job seriously. He is extremely knowledgeable and courteous. His inspection report is the most comprehensive and professional that I have ever seen. The report is extremely detailed and specific, and uses pictures to clearly demonstrate his findings. He gives the home buyer piece of mind before taking the plunge on a huge investment. The house we bought was new construction, but I still wanted an independent eye to double check the builder's work. Mike was the right guy for the job. I will use him again before my 1 year warranty is up. Our Realtor has since used Mike 6 or more times because she was so impressed with his work on our home. I recommend that the home buyer/seller is present during the inspection, as Mike is good at making you understand the problem rather than just being aware of it.

The inspection was thorough and balanced. Problems in the house were documented with clear pictures and detailed explanations. A summary was also provided outlining the significant findings. Difficiencies were in context, and it was easy to decide what was important to negotiate with the seller to repair, and what was insignificant that I could address after taking possession. As I was out of town and couldn't attend the inspection, follow up phone conversations were extremely helpful and all my questions were answered. All in all, an excellect experience.

Mike was very accommodating in scheduling our home inspection so that my husband and I could be present for the report of findings. He arrived early and preformed a very thorough home inspection. He then stayed late to review his report with us. For the review, he used his laptop which already had all the pictures loaded which aided in our understanding of his comments. It was obvious that he made an effort to access all the difficult to reach areas of the home (roof, crawl space and attic). His written report was in our inbox a few hours after the inspection complete with pictures and easy to understand explanations. In addition, he provided a separate document that briefly summarized the items that need more immediate attention. Aside from his professionalism, Mike is exceptionally knowledgeable and brings a refreshing sense of humor to his work. He is clearly a perfectionist and a delightful one at that. We would highly recommend Mike to any of our friends and family members.

Instead of hiring two or three different contractors to check various issues in the attic of my home, I thought a home inspector would be a better way to go as he would have nothing to sell me. Mike from A to Z Home Inspections promptly answered many of my questions by email before I even hired him. I found out that the roofer installed the ridge vent incorrectly,so I was armed with that information when contacting the roofer. The roofer tore it off and replaced it. He found no leaks from the a/c unit which I'm sure some a/c companies would have tried to sell me a new system. Mike spent a lot of time answering my many questions and going over the above and other issues/incidental findings. He followed up with a written report with pictures the same day. This was all at a fraction of the cost of a whole house inspection. I highly recommend a home inspector, ESPECIALLY Mike, for peace of mind and to give their professional, unbiased opinion on any issues on work done or to be done on your home. Contractors and service people all too often take advantage of you(especially women) in order to make/save them money. I found a home inspector is just as valuable after purchasing your home as they are when buying your home. I highly recommend A to Z Home Inspections.
