During construction, we found numerous deviations from our specifications. Some we caught, but due to time frame, had to negotiate acceptance of the deviation for additional work for the difference in price, etc. This happened numerous times with poor excuses for the substitutions made without our consent. The most costly substitution that still haunts us to this day is the windows. Our specifications called for low-e glass in casement windows and sliding glass doors, which is needed and quite expensive compared to normal glass for windows. The low-e windows were substituted with budget line windows. When questioned during construction as to whether the windows were low-e, the GC Duc Watts. was questioned numerous times as to whether the windows were actually low-e since we did not see any indication on the windows that they were. He assured me numerous times that these were the windows specified. It was not until after the house was completed and one of the sliders had to be replaced, that we found that none of the windows in the house were as specified. When approached, Duc Watts finally admitted that we had the wrong windows and promised to make it right. This never happened. He stopped returning our calls, we submitted letters to the company and threatened legal action and he still continued to ignore us. To this date, no resolution was made. We specified low-e specifically so that we would not have to have curtains, shutters, etc to block the view and not have to worry about furniture and rug fading, excess heat etc. We have since had to have shutters installed on all windows at quite an expense. Due to the style house, curtains would not work - shutters were our only solution. I would not recommend Duc Watts for any job. He uses less than professional workers, substitutes items without approval and is not a man of his word. I tried to call the office phone and it has now been disconnected, so I'm not sure if WAV Builders is still in business under that name. I do know, however, that Duc Watts is continuing to do construction contracts. Our most recent problem (June, 2012) is that we now have six windows that have clouded after only 7 years! We contacted Duc Watts and he promised to come the next day to look at the windows so that he can determine if it is covered under warranty. He never showed and does not return phone calls. The saga continues.... :-(
