The driveway FAILED within 2 months. Potholes, cracking, crumbling. We had to hire an engineer company to evaluate why the driveway failed....they found that the ground was not compacted properly; the subbase was not thick enough; poor drainage; no sloping; too thin (less than 1 inch) asphalt layers and the asphalt was too cold when placed. In other words, a totally disastrous waste of time and money. We took Mr. Yates to court and won a $27,000 judgment but haven't seen a dime of it. I would love to say hire him so he can get money to pay us, but I wouldn't wish him on my worst enemy.
Description of Work: We hired this company to install an asphalt driveway on a 2 acre Lake Murray property. The driveway is approximately 120 yards long and covers over 10,000 square feet.

He is a self righteous and unprofessional rip off artist who lied about being licensed. He is not. We filed a claim with SCLLR who, in turn, ordered him to stop working until he paid a fine and was licensed. He blames everything else like the landscaper and other subs for causing the driveway to fail, but parts of the driveway are perfect so obviously he can make one right, he just gambled on this one and lost. Disgusting liar, dishonest person and business man.
Description of Work: The story is so long. But basically, he was paid to grade and pave a 10 square foot driveway (very long). Within 2 months it began to fail, he patched it (looked awful) and promised that's all it needed. 3 years later, it is basically dirt. Engineers proved he failed to properly prepare and install the sub-base (the most important part). During the process, he made the driveway smaller on tight turns, forcing us to drive on the grass. He came and expanded it (after all he is the 30 year expert who saw my big SUV in the garage), and charged us more money for his mistake. Didn't charge for the patches but when I complained about how they do not match the rest of the driveway (patches were just rolled on top of bad asphalt), he said he could fix it for $2000 more. When he dug up part of the driveway, where he burst a water pipe and installed French drains, he tried to charge me $1500.00. When he stated to me this was the worst driveway he had ever seen, he agreed to fix it if I paid half the cost. This was all in less than a year, probably less than 9 months. Then finally he refused to do anything and we are now going to court. We've paid a lawyer $15,000 to chase $15,000. Problem is, it will now cost $30,000 to $33,000 to do the driveway again.
