I hired KB Kitchen to remove & install granite counters. I asked from the beginning about a bar top & the support holding it, the lady in the office said she could not picture it that I would have to wait until Graniteman came to install the counters. My wife & I asked if we could pick our own slab & Graniteman & KB Kitchen agreed to do so. We drove over to Graniteman's location & chose the 'tan brown' because of the vein in the slab. We asked the gentleman at Graniteman if we could have a solid bar top & that we wanted the vein running in the middle of it (stressed that this was to focus point of the counters). He agreed & didn't have any problems with our request & all seemed happy at this point. We scheduled for field measure on 05.10.13 but the owner of Graniteman called me 30 minutes before appointment (already taken half day off & more notice I could have stayed at work) & said he had another appointment come up & wanted to reschedule our appointment. I told him this was no good for me & I needed him there for our agreed appointment time & he asked me to give him 30 minutes & he would call me back about coming to our appointment. After 45 minutes, I had not heard from him so I called him & he told me that he went ahead & went to the other appointment & he would have to come 05.13.13 for a reschedule. My wife decided she would take that Monday off for field measure; the field measure took place & the owner explained to my wife that Graniteman would be back out the following Monday for install @ 0800. She asked him to call me to confirm time & date because I would be taking the day off for install. I never got a call from Graniteman or KB Kitchen about installation of counters, so I called them that Monday @ 0830 & part-owner said they would be there around 0930-1000 to install. Once his crew got there, I asked him about the support of the bar because I didn't see anything to hold a large granite slab; part-owner said that he would explain once he got to this point. After, the removal of the old counters they put the bar up & placed 2x4s underneath the bar slab; I, again, asked were the support was for the bar slab. Part-owner told he, I suggest you hire a carpenter because I don't do cabinets & became very angry about me asking. I told part-owner that I hired KB Kitchen to do a job & I asked members of both KB Kitchen & Graniteman about the support of the bar & no one could tell me. Part-owner said, I don't care, call KB Kitchen & ask them to install corbels because I do counters & I will not do them. His crew went back to working on the seams & refused to talk to me; I called KB Kitchen to discuss. Office lady said she would call the owner of Graniteman & get this resolved quickly for me. After, 15 minutes of waiting she called back & said the owner was on the phone with part-owner & the corbels would be installed that day. I approached part-owner to discuss but he was still on phone with owner of Graniteman, once he was off phone, he turned his back to me (he was very angry) & told me that the owner of Graniteman would be coming to install the corbels, that he was done with his work & had his worker ask me for a "job well done" signature. I informed part-owner that I would not sign until the job was complete & I spoke with the owner, he informed me at this point, he was part-owner & he was the best in the business. After infoming him that I was unhappy with his work & he was leaving my home unsafe for my children until my owner got there to try & finish his work; part-owner informed me that owner would not be coming that day, it would be at least 3/4 days before he would come. I asked him again to finish the job & he refused & walked out the door. I went back and forth several times with KB Kitchen & Graniteman and no one cared about the situation except the operations manager @ KB Kitchen, she spoke with Graniteman & tried to get the situation handled. The owner of Graniteman came to my home & tried to work on the counters and made them look a little better than before & installed corbels. I asked him why I didn't receive a solid bar versus seams and he told me that he couldn't have done a solid bar because it would have broke on install. I asked him why was I not informed of this so I could have discussed where the seam went & he said his company dropped the ball on this. I asked him why the vein was in a slab by the stove & was completely hidden & he explained, "most people like there veins hidden & not out to be seen." I explained that I informed his worker of my request & he again said, "my company dropped the ball on this." Owner asked if my wife & I were safisfied with his company's work, I said no, my wife asked if he could make the seams look better & he said,"no, that is the best we can do." I informed the operations manager that I would be writing a review on Angieslist.com about KB Kitchen & Graniteman for their quality of work & the way things were handled with my situation. The vice president of KB Kitchen called me 15 minutes later to discuss, he asked, "why are you gonna be negative on our review?" I told him that I was not being negative. That I gave them & Graniteman every opportunity to work with me to resolve; I was not unreasonable. I asked him if he seen the pictures that I sent to KB Kitchen of the work that was done & he replied that he did. I asked him if he would put that product in his home & he replied, no. I asked him why was he waiting until now to contact me to discuss when he seen the quality of work & the product his company & Graniteman was putting out there; he replied, "I gave my manager the opportunity to handle this." I informed him that I just had hardwood floors put in & the contractor did an awesome job & I offered him a bonus for finishing early & the work was awesome. I told him that the contractor turned it down & thanked me for the work. Vice president of KB Kitchen explained that KB Kitchen gets cash offers like that all the time, but sometimes work like this happens. The line went died. I tried calling back several times but no answer; I even emailed vice president of KB Kitchen to inquire what happened & he didn't respond. The vice president of KB Kitchen hung the phone up on me. Both of these companies have very little class in their management positions & I would not hire them again.
