UPDATE: I gave it some time before I can say that spending close to $1,400 to clean my ductwork worked. As Mr Mozely stated in his reply (btw: thank you for your service in the US Marines), they did a thorough job the first time (Jan-Feb 2015). But iffy on the second cleaning in June 2015. As the EPA suggests, they don't really know how beneficial duct cleaning really is. In my situation, I conducted a mold test using a DIY kit. I swabbed one of my registers last week (July 17, 2016) and there's definitely mold. I'm not sure just how common this is, but I suspect my mechanical system might have been vandalized - with the expectation that I'd replace my HVAC system AGAIN. I've got two show cats living indoors with me. I think this time, cleaning is not an option, but moving is.

Technician Gary came out to give an estimate. Showed up on time. Came back and did the install. Drilled a new hole through the floor and ran a new 4" round metal duct out to the foundation line, made a hole and vented properly outside. Added a magnetic flapper cap to keep animals out. Work done neatly and professionally, sealed with silicone.

The company sent somebody to our house very promptly, and they performed the replacement even though somehow only a dryer vent cleaning was scheduled. The flex pipe was interleaved with other piping in the crawl space but somehow the worker managed to find an acceptable route. It took around three hours for the process to complete. There might have been an annoyance charge for having a stacked washer and dryer, but I can't blame them for that as it was a giant pain to maneuver. I did not have an Angie's List deal. I had a very pleasant experience and the dryer now actually dries clothes, so overall it's a win for me.

I'm not sure if this is a complement or something we need to work on. I am under the impression we did everything right and have had no negative feedback from this customer to my technicians, project manager, or Quality Confirmed checks. We did an outstanding job on the cleaning the first time and did everything we could on the return trip. I believe she is frustrated with the other company that did the mechanical work. I pride myself on creating and maintaining the best duct cleaning and HVAC company in the midlands. I wish she had used us for the repairs so her experience as a whole could have been better. I mailed in my review back in March. Odd, my review did not post here. So I'm re-submitting it now. NADCA requires a certified person be present. And he was. That's Carl, their general manager. Tim and Carl are the only two certified through the NADCA.

Staff arrived promptly the day of service (Aug 28th) - Lane, Marquis and Carl (General Manager) went through the house and the items listed in the estimate. The work was efficient, Lane and Marquis were a pleasure to have in my home, and they were very accommodating to my schedule of student drop-off and pick-up. All of our ducts were cleaned, including the secondary supply and return lines. We had supply boots sealed and sealing around the return pan. Additional suggestions were made with the estimate, but our main focus was to clean the ducts, so perhaps at a later date we may call upon Ductz again for that work. We are breathing easier after giving Ductz a second chance. Mistakes do occur and they have done everything in their power to rectify that with us. It is nice to see that some companies still value a good work ethic, reputation and customer service.
Description of Work: I would have preferred to write an addendum to my previous review of this company, dated Aug. 22nd, but did not see where I could do this (something to think about Angie if it doesn't yet exist). Tim Mozley did call me back and was genuinely apologetic. He did offer an additional discount, and wished to provide the services I had originally requested. The estimate given on Aug 25th was reasonable and thorough and we proceeded to schedule the work to be done.

These guys were GREAT. They set up a truck-mounted industrial compressor and inserted vacuum hoses into each of the ducts in turn, from the attic to the dryer vent. They checked everything before and after, swept up the small amount of debris that fell when they opened the vents, and were very thorough. They had had a problem with their compressor on their first visit and had to reschedule. Even though this was their busiest time and their schedule was full, the office manager sent a crew the next week. In an act of pure kindness that I didn't even see until the next day, the technicians had put the casters on an antique table I'd been working on: a two-person job that I'd had no luck with the week before. Because of that, I feel like a total rat saying this, but the hoses did put a couple of small chips in the paint where they went around corners. I probably wouldn't have noticed if the walls hadn't just been painted. The one thing I would recommend to them is that they inform the homeowner first to buy replacement filters. (Whole-house AC is new to us and we didn't know we'd need to provide the filters ourselves.) The cost was ultimately higher than the cost of the Deal because of the number of ducts, and I gave it a B only because the 2 other well-reviewed companies I interviewed quoted a significant difference in price. When it comes right down to it, the people made all the difference, a GREAT experience.

The duct cleaning job is for a 1947 house I recently purchased. The house has old inactive ductwork with white duct mastic/tape that is assumed by EPA regulations to contain asbestos. It must be removed by certified asbestos contractors only and is not a problem if handled properly. When I told the contractor that I did not want the asbestos disturbed he said "don't worry the asbestos will disappear". I responded that I did not want it to "disappear" and that I would have a licensed asbestos remover handle it if any was found on the newer active duct system he was cleaning. He inspected the active ducts and said there was no white mastic/tape. The job proceeded with my girlfriend and myself in the house. After the job was finished one of the technicians told me that all of the supply ducts (8) had the white mastic in them and he had to remove it "to finish the job". I was astonished that Ductz had performed an illegal asbestos job in the house without respirators, wetting it down and using a HEPA vacuum while we were in the house. The owner had not even informed his employees about my concerns with the mastic. We found several pieces of the asbestos on the house and yard that I saved. The crews did not have a duct camera to assure that the ducts were clean. I am trying to find the right regulators to address this and have found that almost all HVAC contractors remove asbestos from old HVAC sys without testing and precautions. Very disturbing. The first crew was replaced half way through the job making communication difficult. They did a good job on the filter cabinet install and the price was reasonable. I am very concerned about the asbestos exposure of Ductz employees.

I appreciate [Member name removed]'s comments. He has helped me make my company better and more aware of a hazard when working with older homes. He obviously has a lot of industry knowledge with regards to asbestos. I am aware of the danger associated with asbestos with regards to my employees and customers and feel I was misquoted in his review, to no fault of his own, since the project was completed almost 7 months ago. I would never minimize a real danger or offer simplified answers to addressing them. My technicians were not equipped to deal with asbestos because I didn't feel, during my inspection, it would be a factor since we were only dealing with the newer ductwork. On top of that, not all old ductwork has asbestos adhesives despite how they may appear. The only way to confirm asbestos is through a very costly and timely testing process. Since talking with [Member name removed] after the project I have instituted new training modules into our weekly training program including a more comprehensive asbestos module. He was very helpful and sent me a presentation to present to my employees. I work very hard to avoid earning less than outstanding reviews, but in this case our customer was not happy with an aspect of our work and I failed to correct the situation in a time frame that satisfied him. He has helped make my company better and safer and real changes have been made both personally and within my company. I appreciate his advise and counsel. Having addressed this concern, I encourage potential future customers to focus on our many other very positive reviews.

Our dryer was taking forever to dry a load of clothes so we called an appliance repairman to take a look. He stated that the dryer was working fine it just wasn't "breathing" right and there was a problem with the duct. After consulting Angieslist we called Ductz to take a look. We called on Wednesday and set up an appointment for Friday. Josh showed up and started the clean out process and discovered that the original ducting was installed improperly so that even after cleaning it out would clog up quickly again. Keep in mind that this was no ordinary duct work, our washer and dryer are located in an interior laundry room so the duct went through the floor into the crawl space, took a hard left and ran about 8 feet along the joist, then took a right and traveled another 9 feet to the exterior vent. Due to that I wanted to make sure we didn't cut any corners that would just cause other problems a year or so down the road. He suggested that we replace the duct work and gave us a quote on the spot. I decided to go for a permanent fix and authorized him to perform the replacement. He had another appointment to go to but stated that he would return later in the afternoon to do the job. Sure enough he showed right on time, got right to it and had us up and running in no time. Our dryer is back to it's old efficient self. He even mentioned that since there was a one year warranty on the work that I should call back in 11 months or so and let them do a re-inspection to make sure everything was still working properly.

I was shocked to hear what they consider duct cleaning. When I think of duct cleaning, I think of the entire system being cleaned - the return and supply path throught the air conditioner, the main supply duct, the return air duct, all runs from the supply duct to each register inside the house. They DO NOT CLEAN the entire system during the process that they call DUCT CLEANING. They only clean the individual runs to each register in the house from the supply chamber and the interior chamber of the air return inside the house which means only half of the air supply area would be cleaned. After thinking about this for a while, I think the $1255 price charged was way too much for the work to be performed when only half the job would be done. Their push appeared to be toward total replacement of the entire duct system. Then and only then would they clean the supply and return paths through the air conditioning system. Their cost for total replacement was $4100.00. The price was decent but the product to be used fell short. The representative tried to convince me that it was better to install flexible ducts from the supply chamber to each vent in the house. I knew from my personal research that flexible piping cause air flow to become turbulent thus causing restricted air flow in each duct. Solid galvinized duct work is the proper way to install an air duct system, not flexible.
Description of Work: Their representative arrived promply. He explained their process of cleaning ducts. They had a set pricing sheet for all work they performed which I thought was good.

Thanks for the candid review. Clearly Brian did not do a good job explaining how we clean ductwork. We do clean the entire system unlike many other "duct cleaning" companies. Our process is, for many homes, an all day affair not something that can be accomplished in an hour or two. At the same time we aren't going to tell a customer a duct cleaning will solve their concerns if it clearly won't. When a duct replacement is required we won't hesitate to recommend it while always giving the customer the final say. Please take a moment to read the comments of the customers who have chosen to use our services.

I would like to thank this member for his feedback. To be fair, the duct cleaning portion of his estimate was $568. The recommendations above that were associated with cleaning the air handler as well as repair and sealing of fallen and damaged ductwork. Brian offered to do additional work at no charge including rehanging fallen floor insulation, straightening and staking the vapor barrier, and a one year service agreement.

Ductz did an excellent job. We had a bad odor coming from a bedroom register when the unit was in use. The techs found a large gap between the ductwork and bedroom vent. We also had an excessive amount of dust throughout the house. After they cleaned the duct system, removed mildew from the beams, and sealed all the leaks around the ductwork, the air quality in our home was immediately improved and the dust problem was significanly reduced. The estimate for their service was not the cheapest we had gotten, but the quality of work was well worth the money. We also received a $ 250.00 enegy rebate from SC&G because we had sealed the ducts. We would highly recommend this company. S&B

Very satisfied with work performed. The two man crew DJ and David (I think that was their names) were about 30 minutes late arriving but called to let us know they'd be a bit late because of a company meeting. We appreciated their call. They arrived and went right to work and were finished in about 2 1/2 hours. There were no surprises and I think they did a good job. They cleaned up after themselves and didn't leave a mess which we appreciated. After they left, I realized I should have had them clean our dryer vent while they were here. We'll probably have them do that also at a later date.

After asking about heat/ac duct cleaning, the salesman Frankie came to my home. He was in my crawlspace for about 45 minutes. I was wondering why he was in there so long, because a previous estimator was in crawlspace about 15 minutes. tO MY DISMAY, I FOUND OUT WHY HE WAS IN CRAWLSPACE FOR SUCH A LONG TIME! HE ACTUALLY PULLED OFF INSULATION ON SEVERAL OF THE DUCTS IN MY CRAWLSPACE, AND PROCEEDED TO TAKE PICTURES OF THEM. I know the ductwork and what it looked like previous to this person doing this, because I had done some work down there over a period of 3 days! This is a terrible, very unprofessional thing to do! Also the estimator, Frankie said to "forget" the rebates for the SCE&G program, because it wasn't worth it, and if the ductwork didn't meet SCE&G's standards, they would not give me rebates. Another contractor guaranteed that they would meet or exceed the standards of SCE&G and he personally guaranteed that I would get all the rebates, a huge savings, over $500.00

My wife dealt with them throughout the process and selection of services. I only became involved to request the details behind the quote and at the end of the implementation. Our 40 year old home probably never had duct cleaning done before and dust within the home was recurring way too often. We both studied the various duct cleaning services, processes, and certifications. We wanted validation of a good history and she found Ductz. I was happy they also went further and pointed out that our ductwork and insulation was in very good condition and we had no mold but, there were many leaks around all/most of our vent/duct connections. We could see and feel the air leaking out thanks to them showing us. They reconnected them to have a better fit and sealed them to the point we no longer could feel any air leakage. They did a lot of work, were continuously professional, and cleaned up as they left each area. About a few months ago, I did some research for other ductwork national certified places and was seeing lowest estimates of $1,100 that did not include any duct repairs. It only included cleaning and chemical treating. We elected not to pursue that route. I'm glad we chose Ductz because now we're not only breathing much cleaner air, we're also dust-free, air temperature is colder (spring season) and the distribution of the temperature through our ranch home is remarkably even now. No more hot or cold spots. I can hardly wait to see the electric bill in the upcoming months to compare with last year.

I found DUCTZ on Angie's listed and contacted them to get an estimate. I was called by the company owner the same day to set up a time. They planned a time to come and check the vent. I was told if it was made of a certain material it would have to be replaced. When I scheduled the time for the estimate, I asked that if was less than a certain amount from them to go ahead and perform the service because I had already received two other estimates, DUCTZ was competitive, and I liked that they explained that the vent may have to be replaced if not made of the proper material. None of the other companies even mentioned this in their estimate! The technician was prompt (actually called see if he could come early) and the work was completed in a timely manner for a competitive price.
