I called Rawson Services through Angie's List recommendation. I explained my needs of the seriousness of the vines that had taken over the house creeping up onto the roof. Shutters destroyed from the strength of the main vine concerned me terribly..It had such a vise grip on the brick that it was a challenging job to remove the greenery. After listening to my needs the owner personally drove over and inspected the house. I was out of town but received a full proposal within 24 hours of his inspection. His estimate was half of another Angie's List subscriber, both having the same ratings from customers. I paid after the entire job was finished . Rawson Services documented their entire job via photographs and sent them to me throughout the days clean up process. We spoke after the completion of all the work and clean up via the telephone and we both agreed that his job was 100% complete and exactly what I had asked him to do from my initial telephone conversation. I would use Randy Rawson again, for any tree services. His credentials reflect his knowledge of trees and what is healthy, or like in my case, what needed to be pulled away and removed. I'm thrilled with the professionalism and great communication with me from start to finish. So refreshing to have such an effortless repair completed to my house , yet, even being out of town. Anyone reading this, please know that if you contact Rawson Services , located in Johns Island you will be thrilled with their work ethics.
Description of Work: Pulled overgrown vines from entire house. Years overgrown that had even travelled to roof and chimney

We got an ice storm a few weeks back and sadly, the trees don't look as great. But they were very easy to work with and said he would come back to check the trees after the storm had settled. When he came back, he trimmed them again at no charge. He's the owner and he's out there working with his employees- I really liked that about him. He is also a certified arborist.
Description of Work: He came out and trimmed and fertizilied all my palm trees.

On the specified date and time Randy and a two man crew arrived with a bucket crane (cherry picker) ropes, saws and all necessary tools for the job. As worked progressed we requested far more than originally discussed. No problem for Randy and crew. Eventually we ran out of limbs and branches that could be safely removed without endangering the trees. Randy provided some final advice on a tree with some health problems and what I should look for as an indicator that it was time to take the tree down.
Description of Work: We have our trees pruned every 4-5 years Our property has several varieties and some need special consideration. We always use a certified arborist to assure we don't request something that would endanger the trees. Randy Rawson was thorough in his analysis of our desires and specifically what the trees could benefit from. We already had estimates/analysis from other providers. Before Randy left we agreed on a price for a full day service and a date.

Unprofessional, dishonest - a terrible experience all around. My husband and I just bought a house which has a large, dead oak in the front yard. This tree is a hazard as it overhangs both our house and the neighbors. A representative from Rawson Services came out in person and gave us an estimate of $975 to remove the tree. This price was agreed to by all parties and a removal date was set. On the date of the proposed removal, Rawson employees came to our house - and promptly turned around and left. No knock on the door, no phone call or email, they just drove off. When I called them to see what the situation was, they claimed they did not know how big of a job it was and that the price would be $2000 - more than double what we were quoted at. The whole point of getting an in-person estimate in the first place is to accurately determine the cost of the job! Not to mention that the size of the tree was included in the estimate. When I confronted Mr. Rawson on the phone about this, he told me point-blank that he would not honor the price that all parties had previously agreed upon. Mr. Rawson then proceeded to tell me that his employee did not realize that the tree was dead when he wrote the estimate. I have a copy of the estimate in my email, in which the Rawson employee clearly states that the tree is dead. My husband later called the company to speak to Mr. Rawson about the fact that his employee obviously understood that the tree was dead at the time of the estimate based on what was said in his email. Mr. Rawson then changed his story completely and claimed that he did know that the tree was dead - the opposite of what he had told me 20 minutes earlier. When my husband attempted to calmly read Mr. Rawson the written estimate, he immediately responded with anger and began making false accusations that my husband was and quot;attackingand quot; him, refusing to let him speak. Mr. Rawson then promptly hung up on him and has refused to answer any subsequent calls since. This has to be the most unprofessional encounter I have ever had with a and quot;businessmanand quot; in my entire life. Now I'm stuck with a dangerous dead tree in my yard and have to begin the process of searching for a tree care company again before it causes any more damage. Save yourself a huge headache and avoid this company entirely if you need tree work done in the Charleston area.

Response from RAWSON SERVICES INC
Member received from Rawson Services an estimate to remove a dead tree. Randy Rawson arrived at the jobsite at 7:35 AM. There appeared to be no one living in the house, so Randy left after making an assessment of the tree. Member called at 8:30 AM and asked if we were coming. Randy said we did, but we left. Randy knew beforehand that the tree was dead, but upon arrival and seeing the actual size of the tree, it was determined to be too large to be removed with our regular equipment. Proceeding with the removal, with the equipment we had, would have been dangerous for the crew and equipment. It was determined that we needed a larger lift on that job which would have incurred a cost increase. After explaining to Member about the tree and the new estimate, she seemed to understand. She replied that she had another tree company that would remove it for lesser cost. Randy said he understood and apologized for the inconvenience. Shortly after that conversation, Member called and seemed upset and asked if Randy did not know that the tree was dead. Randy said yes he did. Member became louder and more aggressive with his tone and Randy asked him why he was attacking him. He continued with the aggressive communication, so Randy hung up the phone.

Their price was great and they did a fine job. The one thing they did that we didn't like was cut additional limbs over our driveway that we didn't ask them to do.

Randy provided an excellent comprehensive estimate, walked our property, and made recommendations. His crew trimmed all the palms, removed a large pine tree, and removed all debris. Randy sent us cell phone pictures of the wrok in progress and keep us informed about the work. After the job was done, he returned and made sure we were happy with the job and work. One palm was missed, and some oleander roots were not ground, but he will return to finish. All in all, an outstanding experience with total committed professionals. P.S. Randy trimmed the last remaining palm and removed the oleander roots as promised, and he sent cell phone photos to us to confirm. Absolutely recommend this company to anyone contemplating tree work in the Charleston area

Description of Work: Randy Rawson was as professional as could be. He came when he promised, to give an estimate. Though it was a lot more than we'd hoped to pay, we found that it was in line with other tree services. He was on time, the day he and his crew came to do the work. It was extremely hot outside, but I don't think they even took a break during the 4 -5 hours they were here. When I saw the enormouns amount of equipment required to do our job, I realized why the cost was as high as it was. They were cordial, very pleasant, and left our yard (and grass -- despite much heavy equipment being driven over it!) -- in great condition. I recommend VERY highly!!! NOTE: We had one live oak in the front yard which was rotting, needed assessment and trimming; and we had two TALL River Birch trees in the back yard which had to be removed (stumps ground up, etc.)

"You scheduled the work very promptly and very much within the time frame I had set for the work to be done. You planned three days for the project. You appeared bright and early on Tuesday, April 6, the day set for the work to begin. You had a crew of three men who worked in perfect unison with you and each other, and an impressive amount of equipment in excellent condition. It was obvious you had exactly planned the order of removal of each of these 100 foot-high pine trees in a safe and efficient manner. You had the immediate hazards of a six-foot high wooden fence, a nearby highway and a low hanging electrical line as well as my house and a metal side fence. The work proceeded well on the first day with three of the trees removed. You handled the debris without allowing it to accumulate, and at the end of the first day you left the site in immaculate condition. You completed removal of the remaining two trees early on the second day, and proceeded with stump grinding, blowing debris off the roof, cleaning the yard and securing the fence temporarily until the fence contractor arrives to replace it on Friday, April 9. Your operation is completely self-contained without need of entry into my home. Your men are exquisitely well-trained and competent in their craft and extremely safety-minded. You went to the trouble of warning me when it was necessary for me to stay away from the work area and were concerned for my safety, even if remotely threatened. I will recall the two days as intensely interesting action to observe, and somewhat reminiscent of a ballet performance along with the suspense of watching the precision drops of taller and taller tree trunks after their precision chops at the base by artists with just the right-sized chainsaw, and then the thunderous thump of the trunk hitting the ground – and hitting nothing else!. Your experience and training in doing this work is obvious and very impressive – and very valuable. Thank you so much for the exceptional manner in which you accomplished my job. I like to be impressed with excellence – and you really did it."
Description of Work: Removed five (5) 100-foot tall pine trees from back yard. Required climbing and cutting each tree; could not get bucket truck in fence; had 6-foot tall privacy fence in way, major highway feet away, low electrical line feet away plus residence and side fences. "Thank you for the awesome job you did removing five very tall pine trees from my back yard. Now, they will never fall and crush my house during a hurricane! You completed the job as close to perfection as I could hope for or imagine. You responded to my call for an estimate in a very satisfactory and timely way. Your estimate was the third lowest of six received. I did not consider the lowest bidder responsible. The second low bidder, I think, is a responsible and capable company; but they failed to respond promptly to my calls. They quoted $4500 for the job. I felt your estimate of $4750 for the job was fair and reasonable. I was impressed with your business manner and demeanor and had no reservations about giving you the job. I really liked your website."
