Charleston Carpentry by Zack

A locksmith broke our front door trying to open a stuck lock, so it was a pretty big emergency. Zack said he was swamped (as did every other carpenter I called), but he managed to free up one carpenter to come out just an hour later, because of the nature of the emergency. No one else even called me back. Amazing! The carpenter did a very careful and thorough job of making sure the door was rebuilt safely and securely, but he was relatively quick. Just could not be more pleased. Thank you so much for caring about a small but critical job so thoroughly.

After a squirrel chewed through a rotten cedar board on the chimney and the Wildlife Solutions company removed the squirrels (2), checked for other evidence, several recommendations including either replacing the boards that were rotting or getting some kind of siding, to prevent a recurrence. Zack was referred by another recommended carpenter who was unable to do the work. He came and did a survey of my house and recommended replacing those boards which needed to be replaced and then having the whole house restained. One of the reasons that the boards had gotten bad was probably because of their being late on the staining and also due to the age (30 years) of the house. He gave me an rough estimate since they wouldn't know exactly how many boards would have to be replaced. This occurred over the winter holidays and I had some family issues to deal with, so we agreed on a start date in February. He did not ask for any deposit or payment before the work was completed, including no deposit on material which I expected. Because of rain and then later ice storms, work was delayed since there were previous obligations and also took longer than expected because of these same weather issues. But the two workers arrived promptly each morning when the weather allowed it. Were very professional, polite and hard working. Zack came several times to inspect their work, answered my questions, and was always friendly, courteous and professional. He also referred a painter to finish the work and I will review him when that work is completed. I mention it because I had no idea who to use and would have come here to Angie's List, but the painter seems equally professional and my understanding is that though he is a seperate business, they often work on the same project. The price was within the range that I expected and I appreciated the fact that Zack was aware of my wanting a high quality job while keeping track of the cost. In fact, he replaced more boards than he initially expected, but considerably less than I had anticipated. I don't believe that I could have found anyone better to do this work.
