TruGreen Lawn Care - 5050

My lawn looked horrible after using the service for almost a year. Someone from TruGreen came to discuss the concerns that I had with my lawn. They did not seem to know why my lawn looked the way it did. However, they told me that I should wait for my next service. Afterwards, I contacted two other lawn service companies, and they came out to assess my lawn. Both companies stated that my lawn had buttonweed, broomsedge, crabgrass, nutsedge, spurge, and dollar spot disease. Both were also very surprised about the condition of my lawn when I told them that TruGreen had been treating my lawn for almost a year, I canceled my services with TruGreen, as my experience was extremely disappointing.

Each year lost greater and greater amounts of grass through the winter until there was little to no grass in the yard. After pulling records and consulting a horticulturalist, it was revealed that they were applying more than 10 times the limit of fertilizer needed in a year for centipede. This cause the roots to grow up instead of down and freeze in the winter. They will not follow through with their guarantees, nor customize a plan specific for the yard.

Bobby is always helpful. Anytime I have any questions, they give me advice over the phone or come and look at it and not charge me a dime. I had a real bad persistent weed in the yard that several different weed trimmers didn’t had an effect on, he recognized the weed and gave me detailed advice on how to take care of it and it worked.

I have bare areas in my back yard lawn, which is filled with weeds. Wild Bermuda is taking over lawn in front and back lawns. Tru-Green acted as though they didn't know what to do to kill the Wild Bermuda, other than digging it out of the lawn. I tried digging it out myself; however, it kept coming back. During the year Tru-Green serviced my lawns, the lawns actually looked worse as the year went on. This is the third lawn care company I have used in the last 3 years, and needless to say, they all fall short of improving my lawns. In the future I will be buying weed killer, fertilizer, etc. and putting it out myself. Hence, I will be absolutely sure of what is being put on my lawns. Signed, A VERY FRUSTRUATED GRANNY y

Back service. Product did not do what it claimed to do. Took two months with multiple telephone calls to get anyone to respond to our complaints. We would never use them again. WE had used them for four or five years before we cancelled, so we were not making a quick judgment.

Quoted an initial price of $60 but changed it to $80 as per boss on phone. Demanded $80 payment. I signed a contract with them with $60 written on it and then it was marked through and changed to $80 after service was completed and returned for payment. They will never be allowed back in my yard! No one answers when I call and they have no answering machine.

I was not at home when service was performed, so I cannot speak to this. However, over the long-term the results for our lawn have been terrible and we have complained multiple times without receiving satisfaction. They have a national call center rather than being able to contact the local office. We tried for a month to get a supervisor/manager to come talk with us and assess our lawn. We did not have success. We called a total of five times. So, we fired them last week. All of a sudden they put us in contact with the supervisor/manager when we said we wanted to terminate our service. Since we had tried for a month to talk to this person, we told him it was now too late.

Having been told by Trugreen that we had an insect issue with our yard which was killing the grass we signed up for their full scale treatment. We suffered through all last year with their reassurance that it would take about a year to restore the yard. Much to our suprise THIS year our front lawn is GREEN withh 80% WEEDS.................20% grass. We have called and called; corporate offered to send someone out again to spray and would only charge us an additional $30!!!! We have called the local branch manager several times and have never received a return phone call. I wish I were able to post a picture of our yard (I currently have a picture posted on Facebook as an advertisment for Trugreen). Now we are having to pay over $2,000 to correct what Trugreen has done to our yard over the past year!!

They always come out when they are supposed to. But we really wanted them to handle our weed problem more than fertilization because I think it's wasteful to diligently water the grass so I don't expect green grass in the heat of the summer. So when we bought the plan we asked what we would need to do on our end and the salesman said we just needed to cut the grass on a regular basis. When we got our first treatment the technician told me he couldn't spray for weeds because our grass was too dry and we would need to water it daily for two weeks before he could treat it. I called and told the lady that the only reason we got this service was for weed control and if they couldn't do that then it was a waste of money. Well long story short we worked it out slightly to my satisfaction. They treated the weeds a couple weeks later and ever since. My issue with this company is not that they do not do a good job on lawn care but that the salesmen are deceptive when trying to sell these services. Also we have gotten several calls from them trying to sell us extra services which I find very annoying.

I just had the most bizarre experience with a salesman for this company. The number I called is (803) 667-3758, the number I got from their web site. I talked with an individual who identified himself as "Tony" after I asked for his name. I had called to arrange an appointment for the company to send a representative to assess our lawn care needs. "Tony" asked for my address and I gave it to him. He then told me that he was looking at satellite imagery of our home and whipped off a quick quotation. This amount was to cover applying chemicals to our lawn only. He said that they would recommend several lawn care companies to do the actual yard maintenance, i.e. clipping, edging, mowing, etc. I thought that the quote was hasty, as no one from Trugreen has ever actually seen our yard. We have several bare spaces where the topsoil has eroded away and red clay is underneath. I asked "Tony" how they would address those areas. He gave me a non-answer and stated that they would simply make the grass healthy. Not satisfied with the lack of an answer, I told him that I would like to think it over and give him a call back. He proceeded into the hard-sell, again asking me what my questions were when I had just told him what my question was. Then he either hung up on the call or we were disconnected. In the absence of an immediate return call in this, the age of caller i.d., etc. I can only conclude that he was irritated with my reluctance to commit immediately and quite rudely ended the call. At this point, I am so glad he did. His performance gave me some insight as to how actually working with them would have probably turned out. Thank you for the heads-up, Tony!

We had a good experience with the person who came out, but when we looked at the Angie's List, there were too many negative comments about them and we would not use them because of that.

They were spraying the neighbors yard and saw me working on mine. They made the claims described above. My neighbor later fired them. I should have done so too, but gave them a chance. They also called and said my bushes were unhealthy but I didn't buy the service.When I called to cancel the service, that's when they informed me of another liming I owed them which I did not approve and see no evidence of performance.

They sounded good over the phone but they seemed to forget what they tell you. When we first joined with them, aeration was supposed to be included with the package we purchased. They never did the aeration. We called them about this and they said it was too late in the season to aerate it. The treatments they have done have been good but they said they would come out every 4 to 5 weeks. However one time 8 weeks went by and they had not been out. We had to call them about this. We finally called and cancelled their servce and would not use them again.

I like that they provide periodic maintenance. I'm not sure that their service is effective. For lack of a better option, they might be worth a try.

It was a complete disaster! My only recourse at the time was to take them to small claims court, and I was in the midst of some things and just didn't have the time, so I lived with a dead yard for a long time before the centipede that was left covered up. Now I have to buy pinestraw twice a year for all the beds I had to make to cover the damage.

I initially called them to take care of an infestation of white fly on my gardenia shrubs. From there, they went into a hard sell on all the treatments my yard needed to stay healthy and green, and I ended up signing up for a year's worth of treatments. I figured I would try them and see how it went. The initial price quote of around $500 seemed a little steep, but I figured if it really improved my lawn and shrubs, it could be worth it. So , they did spray for white fly, and last year was a very bad year for them. I had to call them back twice, because the white flies just wouldn't give up! They didn't charge for the return visits, and after the third one, the problem seemed to be solved. BUT, they also started appearing at quite close intervals to apply things to the lawn... fertilizer (nitrogen) several times and various weed control products. they almost always came when I wasn't home, so if there was a question or a problem, they had been and gone before I could ask about it. Most visits, they would find some separate "problem", for which they offered a solution... at extra charge. One time it was "chinch bug damage". Now, I couldn't see the damage they were talking about, but I researched on line, and it turns out that chinch bugs are drawn to an overfertilized lawn, because they like juicy green grass! Trugreen offered a separate treatment for these bugs at $80 dollars or so. I turned them down, and bought a $12 bag of lawn insect treatment at Lowes, and applied it myself. Just in case there actually was a problem. Then they told me I had brown spot fungus. Well, I did have some persistant bare spots in the lawn, most likely from too much shade from big trees. I allowed them to do that extra treatment, for over $60. I never saw an improvement.Although the original price given may have been "reasonable", the additional treatments suggested would have more than doubled the price, and I never did see any improvement in my lawn after an entire season. In January, they tried to tell me I had fire ant activity.(with of course the suggestion of an extra-charge treatment to take care of them) This was after the two coldest weeks of the year, and not an insect was stirring. I couldn't see them, and they didn't bother telling me WHERE they were.... And they repeated the dire warning of the brown spot fungus... this while the entire lawn was at its brownest winter dormancy. With the suggested extra charge treatment. I called and canceled my contract with them, and they had someone call to try to sell it back to me. When I told the person of my dissatisfaction of paying for a whole treatment plan, only to monthly be told of another extra treatment I needed, he tried to say, that with the type of grass I had, they should have applied less nitrogen, and included some of the other treatments in the already paid-for contract. he offered to change it to that for the coming year. I told him they knew what kind of grass I had at the beginning, and if that's what should be done for the coming year, they should have done it from the beginning. I will take care of my own lawn from now on, and save hundreds and hundreds of dollars. I feel foolish for having fallen for it.

They are very professional. They do goo work. The approximate cost listed is for each service. I will continue to use them for more work in the future.

The yard looked really bad when we came back. They didn't do everything they could to keep the grass healthy. When we called them and let them know we weren't happy with the work they did the owner made it a point to come out and give us another application to us for free. I don't have a problem with the work they did however I have a problem with the work they did not do. The approximate cost listed was for the total of the applications it was about $40 each time. I would not use them again. For long term lawn care I would not recommend them.

I have used this company 4 times in the past and will continue to use them in the future. The have performed a variety of treatments to my lawn including fertilization ($45), aeration ($94) and lawn treatments to make my lawn greener ($45). I appreciate the honesty of this company. My lawn is beautiful.
