When we bought our patio home, the prior owner had let it go during the months we were under contract. The pool was green to the extreme! It was a challenge for Contemporary Pool Works to get the pool to clean status... the repairs made by the prior owner resulted in a small air leak in the main line which went undiagnosed for 3 weeks. In addition, the main drain was completely clogged with leaves (which couldn't be seen due to lack of visibility), so the chemicals being put in the pool were not being circulated as they should. CPW repeatedly came back during those three weeks in an attempt to diagnose and resolve the algae issue. Once the air leak was finally diagnosed and repaired, it took only one week for their green-to-clean service to work. They charged a very fair price for the green-to-clean service, especially given the number of visits it took. The office staff and service staff are very friendly and we've never had any complaints with how they respond to our calls. We had not previously owned a pool and initially had tons of questions, and every time I called the office, Amelia was happy to answer all of my questions or find out the answer if she didn't know. We have now been using CPW for a year and initially we saw a turnover of service techs (different tech every week), but I made known my preference to have the same service tech each week and CPW accommodated my request. We had one mechanical issue with our pump during the year, and CPW was been very quick to handle those repairs. CPW allows us to change our service plan at any time - no contracts, just month-to-month. So we can choose to have biweekly service in the winter ($195/mo) and weekly service in the summer ($250/mo), both of which include all chemicals in the price. The prices overall were shocking to us because in FL the weekly service price was only $35, but CPW's prices are not inconsistent with other pool companies in Columbia. And, they truly include all chemicals in those prices...we had a rusty roofing nail fall into our pool and it left rust stains on the liner in five different spots. CPW threw everything they chemically had in an attempt to remove the stains, all without additional charge. That's great service!! I highly recommend this pool company for their consistently, professionalism, and caring concern about our satisfaction.

We trusted this company for several months with several maintenance issues. Overall, there was poor communication and several employees left us "hanging" on more than one occasion. We were disappointed and felt that we did NOT get our money's worth for service and maintenance. Since the pool was a major attraction to the potential purchase of this house we opted to leave and build a house with a new pool. Working with a different pool company in Forty Love and at our new home has been a very positive experience.
Description of Work: To add to our 10/2015 review and other "C" rated reviews, home owner or renter beware. After we fired this company, we hired a company from Blytewood, SC and were very pleased with their service. We have a pool at our current home and do not use this company.

The company representatives and technicians were prompt quick and did everything they promised plus made sure everything was working properly and that I understood how to work this new-to-me spa. I will be using them for additional work on the tile surrounding the spa.
Description of Work: Spa plumbing needed to be reworked with new valves and a new sand filter. Also had to remove an old heater from the Spa.

Description of Work: We moved into a new house in mid-July with an ground pool. We knew the pool needed a new liner but wanted to wait to replace it until next Spring. We paid for a pool inspection + leak test which cost us about $500. The pool passed inspection and no leaks were found. Within 2 months we needed to replace the filter motor ($400) and we weren't pleased with the weekly pool maintenance (@ $200/month). The motor was replaced without our authorization. We were not pleased with this service company and discontinued our service in mid-September.

Response from Contemporary Pool Works LLC
The customer paid for a pool inspection not a leak detection. There was a 2ft tear in the corner of the liner which they wouldn't repair/ replace liner. With all the leaking water we lost chemicals which is very hard to keep clear in the South Carolina summer. This customer no longer lives at this house and was renting and we still take care of this pool!

When my original pool person moved, she recommended Contemporary Pools as a replacement. She stated that they would continue with the price I was paying her company for services and that they came highly recommended. When I first saw someone out at the pool around the end of April, I stressed to them that my grandson's first birthday party was on May 17th and that I would need the pool cleaned with on Friday or first thing on Saturday because the party was scheduled to start at 1. A person showed up to service the pool at 1:30 and insisted that she was going to come back the following week. Our pool ended up down for a couple of weeks because they did not keep up the maintenance. I did fall behind on my billing and then I had trouble using the payment system on the internet system they wanted us to use. They took our Polaris out of our back yard and stated that it would be returned upon us making our payment. The Polaris was NOT bought from them and therefore they had NO right to steal from our back yard. We did pay them the remaining balance, but missed out on 2 weeks of service that were never done but were paid for. It took us filing a police report for them to return the Polaris, but our old Polaris they were suppose to see about fixing was never returned. They stated that they did not take it because of the past due balance but because of a recall on a part, but they could NEVER provide any proof that any work was done and the person that brought back our newer Polaris stated that it had been in the corner of their old shop. They are NOT to be trusted!!!!!!!!!!
Description of Work: Provider was suppose to clean the pool and help maintain the chemical balance. I was charged a monthly fee of 240.00.

We require all customers to pay in advance which she clearly did not. No pay no service. We offer multiple ways to pay and she couldn't produce. With all of our weekly maintance if some thing is broken like a Polaris we bring it to the shop diagnose and repair. A police report was never presented to us.

There were some equipment problems early in the season.but they supposedly were all taken care of.. I truly question the weekly service technician's adding chemicals, however I never see them and all they do is leave me notes saying the pool will return to a blue status. Up until the summer, they were excellent. One of my problems was a leak in the backwash and they left here knowing that, but left the motor running. The water level got too low and could have easily burned the motor up. Each time I had to refill the pool and got a water bill for over $500.00! I'm not sure what is going on with this company anymore as they used to be excellent. Now I don't have water moving in the pool and I suspect they made some changes at the pump that negatively affected the water flows. When this was pointed out, they said they no longer wanted to service my pool. I've paid them $200.00 each month for a green pool! They started out really good, but but have gone downhill ever since. I have asked that all plumbing be returned to its original status, but I'm not sure they will do this. I had repeatedly asked that they come to my home and meet with me, but they never did that. Also, the only way to communicate with them is through e-mail as they do not return phone calls.
Description of Work: My pool is totally green and has been that way all summer. I paid $200 per month for their services.

The cleaning service itself was outstanding. The water techs that came to house were always extremely friendly and helpful. Our pool looked like the pond we live on before they started their service. My biggest complaint, and the reason I will not use their service again, is due to the awful experiences I had with the manager. My boyfriend and I had just moved in and had no knowledge of pool maintenance. We were set up for a bi-weekly cleaning, and were not aware of all the extra work we needed to do in between visits. Due to our lack of knowledge, the pool started to grow algae again. Since we were planning to have guests and use the pool, I called Jeff at the beginning of the week to see if they could come for an emergency visit. They weren't able to come that week, so we never got the "emergency" in-between visit. I understand that they were booked up and just didn't have the availability. I did, however, have an issue with the way things proceeded from there. When they came by the following week, it was already on the week that they were scheduled for our normal bi-weekly service. I was still charged $20 extra, because Jeff considered it an "in-between" visit. I could have lived with that. HOWEVER, Jeff then took it upon himself to send someone back two days later, without consulting me first, and charged me $20 over the regular maintenance price AGAIN. I called Jeff to inquire about the extra visit and extra chargers. First of all - it took him almost 2 weeks to call me back. When he finally did, he told me that had made the "executive decision" to send someone back because they thought my pool needed it. I also asked why I was charged an additional $20 on the second visit, and he said it was for the chemicals. I checked the slip that the water tech left for us, and all she added was a little bit of shock (which, by the way, we have our own in stock at our home). I got no response to this - just an additional invoice. If I never had to deal with the manager, I would absolutely use their services again. We were very happy with the water techs that came to our home. Unfortunately, he's the one who bills us, so I couldn't be sure that I would be able to avoid being over-charged or get additional service without my knowledge or consent.

I'm really lucky to have them. They're professional, knowledgeable, and very nice. I've been really happy with what they've done. I've used them numerous different times. Anything I ask them to do, they did it correctly. They have a very reasonable price. They're an A plus to me.
Description of Work: I use Contemporary Pool Works for pool and spa service. They also redid my pool. I have a cleaning contract with them. I used them to replace the pump, to check the leak on the pool and hot tub.

We contracted Contemporary Pool Works to replace the liner in our older in the ground pool. The work was done in April, 2013. They were on time and efficient. Cost was consistent with our estimate even though substantial repairs were needed to where the old liner had leaks. Unfortunately the liner had a manufacturers defect in it and we continued to experience leaks throughout the summer. Contemporary pools worked diligently all summer to identify the problem. They facilitated the replacing the liner and completed that work as well. While the liner manufacturer warrantied the liner itself it did not cover all the labor fees incurred by Contemporary Pools. Contemporary Pools waived the additional fees at a loss to their own business to keep this customer happy! I appreciate their hard work and will continue to use them in the future.
