Gochnauer Air Conditioning and Heating

Would never use again. After using them for several years, they billed for services not performed last year. Tried to get a credit when renewing maintenance contract this year and all they want to do is argue. Not professional and refuse to provide credit after I provided an overwhelming amount of documentation to support my claim. Just not customer focused.

I love them! They are phenomenal, honest, and professional. They do superior work and If I had a new A/C put by them, they will come in and fix the problem that they notice. They are timely and shown up which lots of company didn't do.

Initially we were very happy with this company. That didn't last past the first couple of years. We have had continual problems. We have had to have them install accessories to prevent the "dirty sock" smell for quite a bit of money (after several years of no problems). One unit in particular has given us a lot of trouble. We were told by Trane that their sealed units do not leak...that is the meaning of the word sealed. This was not the case in our situation. Gochnauer not only gave us a hard time over this, but didn't want to do a thorough leak test on it initially...they said they did a cursory check and couldn't find the leak, but it was clear it was leaking. They said they would put refrigerant in it and see what happens by the next service visit, and had the nerve to try and charge me for the refrigerant. After much arm twisting they removed the charge for the refrigerant. Trane told us this should be a warranty repair. Finally after much arm pulling they did fix it, they say. However, after one year, the unit needs refrigerant again and another part got burned out due to the leak. Doesn't sound like they fixed it the first time does it? I was also told my service contract lapsed. I asked how this could happen. Why didn't they call me or notify me by mail? The office clerk told me they are "paperless" and that I was called several times, but they got no answer and claim I did not have an answering machine...that is news to me, I get phone messages all the time. I even told her I would hang up and she could call back to prove I have an answering machine. She also claimed I was emailed the information. I went back through my emails, and never saw one from Gochnauer. She was very rude and claimed I yelled at her...wouldn't you be upset? They might sound like they have a good reputation, but in our opinion they are not good. Hope this review prevents someone else from having to deal with the mess that we have.

Gochnauer was great. They responded quickly to our inquiry. They did an analysis and provided a recommendation, with alternatives, and they explained it to us in detail and answered all of our questions. The price was competitive. They coordinated other contractors needed to complete the work. The work was done on time and complete. They were professional all the way through. Highly recommend!

Outstanding. Mr Pinkney was professional, thorough, informative and helpful. He had the system up and running in an hour or so, explained the repairs fully and diagnosed some potential future issues. He went above and beyond, identifying a hole in the roof and replacing a couple of attic light bulbs I couldn't reach. Gochnauer and its representative stand head and shoulders above local HVAC companies we had dealt with previously in terms of responsiveness, professionalism, price and integrity.

1. After installation, there was low household water pressure and loud hammer/knocking noises from the pipes in the attic. Monthly electric bills spiked, and were higher than with the conventional HVAC system. 2. A county inspection is required. Gochnauer did not have the unit inspected upon installation. 3. Upon learning of the inspection requirement, I requested the inspection; Gochnauer failed the inspection. 4. Gochnauer did not leave the system installation and specification manuals. Upon request, the Operations Manager refused to provide them. I obtained the manuals from the equipment manufacturer, WaterFurnace. 5. According to the WaterFurnace owner’s manual, “An adequate water supply to the unit is very important.” The instructions clearly state, "1.5 - 2 GPM (gallons per minute) of flow per ton of cooling capacity is recommended in open loop applications." That means 4.5 - 6 GPM are required to operate a three-ton system. At the time of installation, there existed a 16-gallon per minute flow rate well pump. The recommended/required well pump capacity for a three-bedroom, two bath home, without an irrigation system, is 12 - 14 GPM. Not taking into account an irrigation system, the geothermal system had only 2 - 4 GPM to operate. Upon installation, the system did not have an adequate water supply; the well pump was undersized. 6. Gochnauer claimed the existing well pump was adequate. WaterFurnace claimed that they had no rules or guidelines for the sizing of open loop well pumps. Still experiencing system problems seven months after installation, I hired an objective professional. He said he had a geothermal system at his home and that he hated to see people pointing fingers instead of resolving the issue because it gives the geothermal industry a bad name. He said my existing water pump was like "a Volkswagen trying to pull a tractor trailer." 7. After many service calls, much time troubleshooting, and spending an additional $3K to have a new well pump installed, the system operated without the issues described above. 8. WaterFurnace advertises a savings of up to 60-70% on electric bills. However, annual bill amounts show no significant change: Conventional system: 2007 $1,171 2008 $1,174 2009 $1,169 2010 $1,417 Geothermal system: 2011 $1,393 (Geothermal installed May 2011) 2012 $1,308 2013 $1,454 2014 $1,520 2015 $1,297

Steve was fantastic. he gave us a price competitive with 3 other bids and better than another bid for the same equipment. Steve was the most knowledgeable of all the representatives. the installers were great, a "clean" installation . the follow up to the installation was thorough. the Carrier infinity is terrific. determined problem with down a/c unit. changed filter, cleaned a/c drain, checked Freon level

Gochnauer responded quickly. Ran a diagnostic test ($68) and charged for service call ($99). Technician advised my wife he could find nothing technically wrong with system and it was rebooted with no problem.

Our HVAC system was 15 years old and starting to fail. Initially we had Gouchnauer repair and service the old unit during the summer. We had issues with the unit twice and we understood we were postponing what had to be done. When we called them during those times, they were the fastest responders to our repairs. A month later, we decided it was time to replace the unit. They provided an estimate and it seemed reasonable for the scope of work (need a crane to lift the cooling unit onto the roof of a 3 story condo). They did a great job and the unit works wonderful. We also had them change the thermostat as it was an old mercury one. We would recommend them to anyone.

The unit they suggested was smaller than most people wanted to sell us. Our home is not that large and they felt this would be sufficient for us. They saved us over $1,000 with their recommendation, plus we got a rebate. They were prompt, efficient, and had us up and running within a day. They next day another person from their company came to inspect the work to be sure it was done to their specifications. The system is working perfectly, keeping us cool during these hot summer days and out electric bill has gone down. I would recommend them to anyone who needs air conditioning service.

The best I have ever encountered. Very professional and knowledgeable, on-time both days, very fair pricing. They put down runners from the front door to the attics and vacuumed the work areas when finished. They even have a QC person that comes around the day after the install to verify that quality standards are met.

Very happy with this company from installation of new HVAC in January 2014 through service period. Would highly recommend.

They're on the higher end, but I like them. They're very thorough, and Mark spent nearly two hours completely scouring my entire system, even into my attic making sure it was all working properly.

It was good. The installation went well however, there was some work that was supposed to be reset. It was great and the house was cool.

Found that the unit was placed under the overhang, in an enclosed area, causing the unit to overheat and draw too much electricity at the next start up. Made several recommendations to improve air flow to help cool the unit. AC unit is about 13 years old and needs to be nursed.

We have a vacation unit, with only a few days notice, they were able to come and install a new unit on a Saturday for a reasonable price. One of the mechanics caught a shard of metal in his eye. Despite our protest to go to the doctor, he insisted on staying and finishing the job, that's old school! Overall, we are happy with the service, the staff, and the product.

very prompt response to all around. From request of quote to install date. I was on a very tight schedule to which was met. Others couldn't even get me a written quote in time. glad I joined Angies list to get me hooked up with a known good company. I am from out of state. I was onsite for only a week. Everything was done in the time allowed me. Only somewhat negative experience was the follow up service tech they sent out for a 3 day follow up. Just kinda walked in like he was in a active job site. Left the breaker to my other AC unit off after he left causing me quite a bit of confusion when my other AC did not work. Finally found the breaker was left off.
