Many years on a regular maintenance plan. Many years we may have been better served with a little more due diligence. I'm not sure where to start...we found someone better at the job who charged less, offered greater transparency, and didn't leave us hanging in silence past an agreed due date to the point we'll now be without A/C all summer awaiting a new unit to be built. Professional up to a point, and at least 25% higher than competitor prices for same work and parts. Be prepared to be underwhelmed and treated like a dummy who doesn't deserve to know what's going on.

Having dealt with this business for 15 years, it was time for an upgrade and less antiquated Heat Pump system. I HIGHLY recommend you contact Andrew (Project Manager) and request Adam and Donald as your installation crew. Bryan might show up to lend a hand as well. Great communication during the system evaluation process with Andrew. Then Adam and Donald arrive and perform their tasks like a symphony. Truly professional, knowledgeable, and personable. Always offering to answer and explain ANY questions/concerns. Very respectful of property no matter what the value. Do your research, prepare questions, and then give Andrew a call. Oh, and spend the extra money for their 10 year labor and parts warranty and their yearly maintenance plan. Your wallet will thank you and it will assure your unit stays in top condition. I'll continue to recommend this company for honest, accurate, and professional service. THANK YOU!!

Gordon was timely in giving me an estimate and his crew showed up right on time for the installation. It was a complicated installation but they worked non stop until the job was finished. The cost of the unit and installation were high, but these projects are expensive by nature. I have been very satisfied with Gordon's follow up.

Quick response and excellent job. Found that I needed just a small fill of Freon which appears to have corrected the problem.

I had a really great experience with Berkeley Heating & Air. I contracted them to replace my 22-year-old heat pump after it died of old age in the spring of 2019. It was an R22 unit, and since that refrigerant is phasing out, there was no sense in trying to repair the unit- my only option was for a complete system replacement. Since replacing a HVAC system is a huge investment, I did a lot of research and got multiple quotes from various vendors in the area, all selling & servicing different makes of units. The makes of units I received quotes on were: - Carrier - Rheem - Lennox - Traine - American Standard - Heil You can find a lot of reviews online for each of these manufacturers and in my experience the reviews for all were all over the map- some being great and some being horror stories, not for any particular brand, but literally all of them. However, in my research it is emphasized quite often that whatever brand you choose, make sure whomever is doing the installation does the installation properly. Seems obvious, but from what I’ve learned is not everyone doing these installs pays attention to the small details. What I like about Berkeley Heating & Air: - No pressure sales. They didn’t try to upsell me on add-on’s like air filtration, which I don’t need. Air filtration is nice, but I don’t allergies and the quality of the air in my house is fine. They basically sized the unit and gave me quote on a single stage (comfort series) unit based upon my financial situation. After doing some more research and getting other quotes from other contractors, I lwent back to BH&A and received quotes for mid-tier, two stage heat pump (performance series) as well as the very nice, top of the line infinity series. But again, there was no pressure- I asked for the quote, they answered some more of my questions and that was it. - They are a Carrier Factory Authorized Dealer, locally owned and operated and have been in business for over 50 years- I wanted someone local, not a corporation doing a lot of bulk sales in multiple states. - Excellent work quality, very detail oriented- They were the only company that stressed the importance of replacing the previous fiber-board box on the outtake with a countered metal piece of duct. By doing this they improved the airflow into my entire house and evened out the temperature in two bedrooms without having to replace any duct runs. All the other companies I received quotes from were content with just replacing the fiber board box with another fiber board box. BH & Air was the only one who recognized the fiber board box had to be replaced with something better. - They weren’t the cheapest, but they also weren’t nearly the most expensive considering I bought a Carrier unit, which typically are more expensive than most other brands. I feel I got a really good deal for the work performed and the equipment they provided. About my unit: I ended up purchasing a 2-ton, 2 stage Heat pump (17 seer) with a variable speed air handler. The unit is from the performance series line (middle tier). I’m really happy with the unit and it is a night and day difference between my old single stage unit. If I could have afforded it, I would have gone with the Infinity series as these units have communicating thermostats that allow you to independently control the humidity in the house. Humidity control is really key in controlling the comfort in your home. If you able to dial in a lower humidity level, then you can run the AC at higher temps and still feel as comfortable, hence you save even more on your electric bill. Berkeley Heating & Air’s price for the Infinity system was reasonable when compared to other brands that do the same thing, it’s just that all of the upper end units were out of my price range. Just something to consider to anyone out there on the fence about whether or not to go for the higher end units- After all my research I concluded that the higher end units are worth it if you can afford them.

It would probably go great if Berkeley was willing or able to give me the quote promised in November. I had a service tech out to determine why the heat would not turn in my newly purchased home with the new heating and cooling system. He fixed that issue but told me the people who installed the system did not do it properly and the water that is going to drain will be coming through my ceiling if changes aren't made (very simplistic description of the issues that he described and explained in full and excellent detail). He said he would take the information back to the office and get them to send me a quote. I've called twice and Amber promised me the quote "soon" (the first time) and the next day (the second time). It's been over 2 months since the initial request for a quote and I have not been given a quote or a follow-up call. My real regret is I signed one of their annual maintenance agreements and paid $160 for it. At this point, I can't imagine calling them. If I can't even get an estimate, I have no idea how long it would take to get someone to my house even though the initial service was very prompt, professional, courteous and the tech, unlike the office staff, was responsive and ensured that I understood the problems and what needed to be done.

I am revising my review of July 2018 because when I finally got service, it was from a highly experienced HVAC professional. He showed up exactly on time, inspected everything and even went beyond what was contracted and reconnected exterior drain tubing that had come apart. If this had been my only interaction with Berkeley, it would have been rated A+. Time will tell if this level of service continues, so will most likely renew my contract with them.

They did an outstanding job. Great follow-up afterwards. They also gave me 2 free preventive maintenance checks.

Excellent inspection. Checked everything out from blower moter in attic to compression unit outside. Everything checked out O.K.

Things went great!! I called the office and was given an appointment for the following afternoon. Kirk arrived on time and was very professional. He wasted no time, worked very diligently, and fixed the problem. I was very pleased. I thought the cost was very fair.

I was pleased with the work, the thermostat was expensive, hopefully it will last for a while.

I filled out one of those things Angie's List sent me and I told them Berkeley's Heating and Air was fantastic. I did it on line. They did a fantastic job.

They installed a brand new air conditioner for me 2 years ago. I pay them yearly.

We have used them forever, and we are very satisfied with them.

Punctual and very affordable for service call with Angie's List discount $30, turned out unit was ok after diagnostics - filter was dirty and tenants are using better filters going forward

Tech came out on time, was friendly and gave me honest advice.

Great, the tech called before he arrived and fixed the A/C. He then showed me the work that he did.

We had a service tech come out, and within 30 minutes of being there he had deemed both units bad. I was in shock because only one unit had an issue when I called for service the previous day. Prior to him arriving our upstairs unit was doing great and we had zero problems with it cooling and maintaining temperature. After talking with him a bit, the only problem the downstairs unit ended up having was that the breaker had tripped and he stated he "needed to bend some terminals back" on the unit, but he had turned it back on and it was cooling great again. He told me "I don't know how long it will work, maybe a day, maybe a couple of days, but it's working for right now." He told me the upstairs unit (that we weren't having problems with) had a very bad leak and had me come out to listen to it, however, I thought it was strange because it didn't have that before he arrived. He told me "when I climbed up onto the platform I bumped it, while trying to get to the middle unit" and stated that's when it started leaking. After having numerous other quotes done, and looking around the upstairs unit it appears that there is a screw that is screwed into a strap that holds down the upstairs unit that was sticking up ever so slightly, and when he bumped it, it seems he bumped the coil into the screw which punctured it letting out all of the refrigerant. Hence the audible leak that appeared after he bumped it. On our downstairs unit it appears that the caps were left off (the one that had the breaker tripped), and I am told the schrader valve had been backed off, so that it had a slow leak. I find it very strange for two completely separate units to stop working at exactly the same time, especially when one was working great with zero issues whatsoever prior to the service tech's arrival. Our downstairs unit that had the breaker issue, was not previously leaking as it was cooling great and I believe the only reason it quit cooling was that the breaker was tripped. I truly feel like the service tech caused more issues with our units, and I don't think I will be calling them for service again. It disappoints me to have to write this review as we had them replace a unit of ours in a previous home and the installers did a fabulous job, but I feel like this particular service call ended up costing us thousands of dollars.

And I feel very good for paying them for the job they did. I have to say I am very informed and thorough customer who did months of researching and interactions with various companies in search of a new HVAC installation for my home. It takes a lot of effort to convince and please me. With Berkeley heating and air, it started with a very professional and supportive conversation I have had with the project Manager Andrew Volcko. I never felt any pressure and he was always very candid, honest and most importantly patient with me while doing my research. He always answered my calls promptly and answered my questions very candidly. After I decided to go with Berkeley heating and air, I met the installing team whom I found to be very experienced and professional. Installers especially Kevin Anderson did an immaculate job making sure the duct-work and the system installation was done at the highest quality. Kevin Anderson and his colleague also another Kevin together installed the HVAC system and tested all the electronics as well as the efficiency of the system to its perfection. The second Kevin was more responsible on testing the functionality and efficiency of the whole system including installing the outside condenser unit and the board electronics and he did an amazing job! People like Kevin Anderson whose job in not very visible (hidden in the attics) must be appreciated especially when they do a fantastic Job as they did at my place! Both Kevins’ work was very clean and professional. They went above and beyond to make sure the job was done right without any rush and I was extremely pleased. They answered any questions I had during the installation and I have to say I enjoyed the hours I spend with them. Andrew the project manager came by during installation work to check on progress and that was also very much appreciated. I am very happy and confident in the system I installed for my home that I will probably live in for the rest of my life. I cannot thank the team (Andrew Volcko and the two Kevins) enough for their immaculate - quality work. I had a problem with my upstairs and heating. I have used this Company before and had been very satisfied until this day. A technician arrived and I told him what kind of problems I was having. The technician took only about 25 minutes and told me that my zone board was bad. He told me that he would order the part and provide me a estimate. I called for a second opinion and the company that I called actually spent over an hour diagnosing the problem and fixed it for 75 dollars versus 600 dollars. This company has lost my business for good.
