They did exactly what they were suppose to do. Inspection before work was very carefully done and well documented. The sweep of inside on chimney was done and care was taken to keep everything clean. I was disappointed that work did not include a good cleaning of the inside open area of fireplace but I agree that description of a sweep does not include that.

Response was quick along with appointment. However estimator was totally unprofessional upon arriving and conducting his work. Got ladder out and attempted to climb to chimneys (wood cedar shake roof which was described before coming) and in process damaged a couple of shakes. Came down and told us that we had a "bad / old" roof. House is 6 years old. Further he said that he was afraid to damage the roof and that it would be costly as will need a "bucket" truck. Persisted that we had a bad roof and old roof. Clearly not professional and was not nice. No, did not pay the $175.
Description of Work: Requested a quote for chimney caps (4). Sent pictures and described the roof. Was willing to pay $175 if they did not do work as it is their policy

Response from Chim Cheree, The Chimney Specialists
Hi [Member Name Removed], I'm sorry for any miscommunication on my part, and I apologize if I came off as unprofessional or flippant. While some shake roofs are ladder-accessible, yours simply wasn't. In an effort to avoid any damage to your property and any bodily harm to myself, I suggested the lift/bucket truck as an alternative. I understand entirely if you'd prefer to go with another company. Since I was unable to do any work for you, I did not charge anything for my visit. Thank you for your feedback. We always appreciate customer feedback, even if it's negative so that we can improve. Sincerely, David Kline Owner Chim Cheree The Chimney Specialists

I am a real estate agent representing a buyer. The seller's told us we may have to have a new chimney liner ($4500-$12000 possible cost). I called Chim Cheree and he came out the day I called. He was very honest and knowledgeable about what was needed. He was very thorough in his explanation even going so far as videotaping his explanation so that it could be sent to my out of state client. When I sent his report to my client, my client said "this guy is impressive!" As a real estate professional, I appreciate promptness and honesty. We will be using him to clean the chimney on my buyer's new house and I will definitely use him again in the future! Thank you so much for everything.

We received a comprehensive report of the inspection. Audio recording of the "debrief" afterwards and dozens of photos documenting everything. They gave us practical, straight forward advice for how to protect the top of the chimney from weather. When we can afford to put an insert in, we will call them back out!

They arrived a few minutes early, which was great! I had to stay home from work this morning in order to meet with them so it got me to the office a little earlier than I anticipated. Before David stepped foot in the door, he covered his shoes in order to keep my floors clean. He examined the fireplace itself, took some photos, and went to the roof to examine the top of the chimney as well. When he was done, he came back inside to explain his findings and show me the photos. He even recorded everything we discussed so I can share it with my husband later - it is really nice they do that because there is no way I could have remembered all of those details. They will be emailing me suggestions on how to fix the chimney/fireplace (it needs to be completely replaced after improper initial installation and 25 years of total neglect). I will definitely be using them to replace the entire system when we are financially prepared to do so.

Response from Chim Cheree, The Chimney Specialists
Mr. [removed member name], I hope that you will call our office at (864) 895-4204 to set up an appointment for servicing your chimney. The Chimney Safety Institute of America and the National Fire Protection Agency recommend annual chimney inspections and chimney sweeping when necessary. Depending on the type of wood stove you have, it likely needs to be swept every year, at least. Some wood stove chimneys need to be swept multiple times each year to remove excess creosote accumulation. If your chimney was last serviced in 2011, it is not surprising that the flue has become obstructed with three years of use between sweepings. In checking our records, we can find no record of ever having serviced or inspected your chimney system. We have no record of ever having visited your address, although we have seen some of your neighbors. It seems like you may have confused us for somebody else. Please call our office and set up a chimney inspection. We will tell you more about your chimney than you ever wanted to know, and can certainly remove any obstructions in the chimney flue for you.

VERY well! As I explained above, David was the utmost professional and paid great attention to details. His summary session at the end of the day was very well done and supplemented with the pictures he had taken through the day. He performed the work that was expected with the cost that was explained up front ... no surprises! I would recommend everyone to use Chim Cheree's service and will use them again when needed!
Description of Work: Chim Cheree thoroughly cleaned and inspected my two fireplaces. David then went on the roof to inspect the chimney and took pictures and measurements. At the end of the session, he reviewed all his work, step by step, and illustrated with the pictures he took during the stay. David was complete and very thorough in his work and explanations!

Chim Cheree was incredibly professional and punctual. They provided a list of items that would be included in their preliminary report upfront, along with an accurate cost of work to be preformed. The service tech was great - very thorough with explanation of report and functions of chimney components. He gave us options ranging from basic to complete overhaul if we wanted to do any work to our chimney, but made sure we understood it did not this work immediately and was functioning acceptably. At the conclusion of the inspection, we scheduled a time for a flue cap to be installed the following week, which was completed without us having to be home and by all accounts was installed well.
Description of Work: Preformed a preliminary inspection of the entire chimney, fire box, etc. and provided full report with photographs. Also installed a flue cap at a later date.

I was so impressed with both gentleman who came to inspect the chimney!! Both were very polite and made sure to cover their feet before entering my home. The inspection included video of the interior of my chimney along with still photos of both the intererior and exterior. Found that a piece of flashing (or something like that) had not been installed by the builder and installed the piece to protect against a possible fire. Great job!!

They cleaned chimney and installed a 'faux fireplace' system that was a fraction of the cost of making either fireplace fully functional. Also installed new chimney cover on roof. They showed up when expected, were very careful about not making messes (even though the house was already a mess!) and worked diligently, explaining everything clearly and thoroughly. If we decide to invest the $10-15K to turn make fireplaces wood burning, we'd go with them; but after they set us up so nicely with a much cleaner and safer alternative with all the ambiance but none of the hassle, why would we? My husband and I continue this debate.
Description of Work: Inspected both 'fireplaces' in house we were buying. They advised the fireplaces were not operational and what it would take to make both functional as well as offering alternatives for creating ambiance without breaking the bank, which we opted for. They took film and recording of inspection as well as meeting with my brother (we were still in FL, unable to attend.) We did not feel like we missed anything! Very thorough.

I contacted Chim Cheree about two weeks prior to the appointment time for them to come out and check out my chimney before I started using it this season. In this report, I will outline general background information as to why I needed service and then address each category rated above: General Background: My house was built in 2008. We purchased from the builder in September of 2010. We used the Vermont Castings installed wood burning fireplace from about November 2010 through early March 2011. Being a first time user/owner of a wood burning fireplace, I wanted to ensure there were no issues and the unit was certified to use this winter before lighting my first fire this upcoming winter. Since safety is of utmost concern for me, I decided to join Angie's List and find the best company to meet my needs; and I must say, MONEY WELL SPENT! Responsiveness: After reviewing several possible companies on Angie's List, I decided to call Chim Cheree. I was greeted with a warm welcome and soft voice. She asked the nature of my called and how they could assist. I explained my concern and need for an inspection/possible cleaning. She asked when I needed the service performed and much to my surprise, we were able to work out a date (the day before Thanksgiving actually) they had open. This is one of the busiest times for chimney sweep companies so I was please with the ability to meet my needs. Before the conversation ended, she stated the upfront fee would be about $110 to $270 depending on services rendered. Just an inspection would be $110, $270 would be an inspection and chimney sweep. Method of payment was check (preferred) but credit card payment was also accepted. Two days before my assigned appointment, they had a cancellation and wanted to know if I wanted to fill that time slot. Unfortunately it wasn't a time slot that I could change to but I appreciated the chance to "up my appointment". The day of my appointment, I was called that morning to remind me of my appointment date and time and also had another chance to move the time to earlier in the day as they had another cancellation. I was able to take advantage of the earlier time offered. Punctuality: My new appointment was for 1:00 pm (changed from my originally scheduled appointment time of 3:00 pm). As I pulled into my drive from work at 1:08 pm, the service associate was pulling up my driveway; since I work in manufacturing, we like to call this event "just in time" arrival. Professionalism: The associate introduced himself, and then gave me a few minutes to gather up my animals and collect myself before he started work. Before entering, he used my front door mat to wipe off his shoes (they were clean and it was a sunny day but you could tell this was by habit - which is a good thing), brought in a drop cloth to place in front of the fireplace and proceeded to the fireplace for an inital visual inspection. He asked me several questions about: my use (consumption of wood), the type of wood I burn, how I start my fires, how long I've owned/used the fireplace, if I had replaced any parts, how I cleaned the glass doors, if I ever experienced smoke in the room, if it heated well, and several other questions. He also asked if I had the manual on the fireplace as it was a newer model that he hadn't seen before (to which I had and provided). He took his flashlight and digital camera and did an initial inspection while asking questions. He explained what he was looking at, what he was looking for and then would show me the pictures he took after each photo taken and explained what he saw. I have to admit I felt bad as I thought I had cleaned the fireplace competely before his arrival but I had a ton of ashe from the last time I used it back in March still in the firebox. The associate on site has been working with the company for two years, but do not let that discourage you in the least. The associate was VERY knowledgeable and had a warm personality and an attitude that you knew he really enjoyed doing his work. The afternoon the day before Thanksgiving would make a lot of people want to hurry through the job to get an early jump on a long weekend with the family but this guy was all business with a friendly ambiance. Quality: He performed a level one inspection (to which he explained the different level of inspections - level one is ground only, level two is ground and roof and level three is structural behind the wall type checks more to ensure proper installation was performed - I hope I got those right, but he did explain them to me). With my house being so new and little relative use on my fireplace, he felt a level one inspection was best for me but also offered level 2 or 3 if I felt like I needed it. After the inspection was complete, the only thing I needed at this time was the honeycomb combustion chamber needed to be cleaned. Throughout the inspection process, I failed to mention that he would point out critical wear components to watch, provided many tips on maintaining the fireplace to peak performance and stated where to get replacement parts (which they would be happy to provide if needed) and the approximate costs of said wear components. I had about 1/16" soot buildup in the chimney. He said I would need it cleaned once it reached about 1/8" but again, offered to clean it if I wanted him too. It looks like my particular fireplace will go about two to three years between cleaning (but I'm going to get it checked yearly regardless). He grabbed a bunch of tools and cleaned out the combustion chamber, showed me how to remove, clean and re-install it in case I wanted to do it on my own. It is a wear item and he showed me what to look for (warpage of framework, cracks, honeycomb damage, etc) and told me it would cost about $400 or so to replace when it needed it, but mine was in good condition. He cleaned up a large portion of the ashe that was in my firebox, cleaned up the work site and wrote his report. We sat down at my dining room table, he showed me all the pictures again (about 20) and recorded the conversation on his laptop. Price: The bill came to $159.00, that was $109.00 for the inspection and $50.00 for the cleaning of the combustion chamber. Personally, I thought that was very reasonable. As stated above, he provided me with ballpark costs on wear components so that when I needed to replace those components, I would have a good idea what it was going to cost me. He arrived at 1:08 pm and pulled out of the driveway at 3:00 pm. Overall Experience: I have to say I'm very impressed with the service rendered from all aspects. From the initial phone conversation to the signing of the check, it was a pleasant experience. I will be using Chim Cheree for all my future needs and look forward to a cozy warm winter snuggled up with my wife and boys around the fireplace for the holidays!

They have cleaned my chimney since I lived here in '78. They are so professional. What I like about them is that they don't recommend anything you don't need. and while they are cleaning the chimney they use a camera which takes pictures to show you what your chimney looks like inside. They tell you what they found, whether there is an est or a crack, etc.

We had hired another chimney sweep to clean our chimney three or four months earlier. Upon finishing his work, he informed me that the damper was stuck, rusted in place, and wouldn't budge. Since I knew this wasn't the case because it worked before he arrived, I fiddled with it after he left and determined that something was obstructing it from behind. I called Chim Cheree to see if they could fix the problem. Two men arrived right on time. They were courteous, careful, determined, and well-equipped. They used a digital camera to get pictures behind the damper and found a huge pile of creosote left by the previous fellow which was obstructing the movement of the damper. It took them about an hour to get it out. They cleaned up carefully, leaving no evidence that they had been there. The damper now swings freely and we had our first fire of the season this past weekend. I couldn't be happier.

I did have another place come out and these guys at Chim Cheree were the absolute best. They took a video of the inside of the chimney before and after it was done. It was great. The video was narrated and everything, it was amazing. They did want to try to sell us more, but we do not fall for that kind of thing. They were very thorough and did a very good job. I have no complaints at all.
