Upstate Windows and Exteriors

This company is absolutely TERRIBLE to deal with. Started in December of 2021 when we hired them to do replacement windows at our house. They told us that due to supply chain issues the windows would take about 10-12 weeks to come in. They took $9,700 from us as a deposit to “get the order in before prices increased after the first of the year” Now looking back at it, I think it was just sales pressure and not looking out for our best interest as their customer as they stated. After that, 3 months passed and we didn’t hear a thing from them. After many ignored phone calls and texts messages, they would sporadically respond to us about our order but were extremely inconsistent with their responses. They had every excuse under the sun as to the reasons that our windows were being delayed. Finally, in May of 2022, after much begging and pleading to get the project under way, they installed about half the windows at a snail’s pace by coming to my house and installing 3-4 at a time and then disappearing for days to weeks at a time. By the end of July, with only half of our windows done, and hearing from their installers that this was happening because they were out of money and only allowing them to install what they could afford to pay for at the time, they ignored numerous messages from us asking when the job would be completed. I finally threatened legal action if they didn’t respond. They responded almost immediately with about 10 different excuses as to why they disappeared.They finally did complete the remaining portion of the job, however the entire ordeal took 8 months. Once the window job was completed, they messaged me regularly to arrange the rest of the payment. It amazes me that people who ignore every attempt to connect when I need them suddenly and magically come out of the woodwork for their money and then go back into hiding. I have had at least 2 contractors at my home since for different reasons that have pointed out that our new windows do not have any kind of flashing or moisture barrier around them. I reached out to them and despite relaying what I have been told by other professionals, they adamantly deny that any kind of flashing is necessary at all. We also had them replace a roof on our screened deck while we were waiting on the windows. They didn’t flash the roof correctly, therefore, when it rains water pools up on the roof. I contacted them about the issue and without coming to look at it, they told me it was “normal” for the water to collect on the edge of the roof near the gutter. I have since had another contractor point it out to me that they screwed up the flashing and now their error is causing the flashing to separate and now we’re are having problems with the gutter and leakage as a result. I have tried reaching out to no avail. I contacted the window supplier and was told that they no longer are in business with them. I have read other reviews and it’s the same story over and over again. They are literally going around collecting people’s deposits for thousands of dollars and either doing shoddy work or completely disappearing on them. At this point, I just wanted them to fix their mistakes as they promised to completely back their work. I have spent enough money trying to fix things in my house without having to hire someone else to clean up their sloppy work. I am only giving them one star because I have to in order to make this post. If zero was an option, it would still be too high.

Would not even give them one star but I had to. On August 6, 2022, I signed a contract and paid $5004.25. We were told it would be early to mid October when the windows would be ready to be installed. I was patient and waited till October 24th to reach out. Of course, I was on her list to call that day. They were still waiting on our windows to come in. The manufacturer had been delayed with a specific part that was hung up in the supply chain. It was her understanding then that it would be a few more weeks before they got any windows. They were waiting on 20 different orders. She said she would update us in a couple of weeks. NO updates again until I reached on December 28th, no response. January 6th, no response, January 10th she finally responded that she was sorry they had had covid. Let me know that she had my windows in and they are working in the order of windows ordered. Blamed their sickness and the weather. Expecting to be at my job on January 30th. As long as we don’t get too much rain. I thanked her for the update and just asked that she communicated. January 30th I sent a message because I had heard nothing. February 1st sent another email. She finally responded late afternoon that she was in class. Promised they were coming as fast as they could. Definitely behind schedule. Lost 2 weeks because of rain. I asked how many people are in front of us. She told me there were 2. On February 27th I reached out and asked where we were now and she said they expected to be at my house on the 15th . March 8th, I reached out again to see if they were coming because we have to get things ready in the house. She replied, we are looking at possibly next Friday…. But we are expecting more rain. We lost 13 days in February. I’ll touch base the first of the week to let you know. There are two window jobs in front of yours but we are so close. Monday, March 20th….I sent her a screen shot of where she said she would call me from March 8th. I have had no response to my messages. I just want my money refunded at this point.

Got a quote in November of 2022. Made a deposit and was told it would be a few weeks for windows to come in and then installed in December. That day came and went, and the company did not respond to our calls and emails. Finally heard back mid-January; they gave a new install date. Then nothing. Heard from them again after many more calls and emails with another new date. Then nothing. Asked to be refunded the money for the deposit since they have not been communicating and install hasn’t been done. Haven’t heard anything. Do NOT use this company.

On Nextdoor in Greenville, a couple got a quote from Upstate Windows, paid a deposit, was told it would be 4-6 weeks. Six months later, no Windows, no answers to phone calls or emails. Apparently Upstate Windows has disappeared with his money. I wouldn’t hire this company based on his experience. Buyer Beware!

Jason and his crew were hired to build a sunroom and reroof with a metal roof. My roof looks as if an amateur completed it. The work is not near and where cuts were made it is uneven. They were at least two months late starting and when I had a problem after they finished it took a lot of calling to get them back out. I will not be recommending them to do any work.

Jason has done work for us and our neighbors before, and we trust him. We gave him a picture of what we were looking for, with a few modifications. They built it in 2 days exactly to the picture and we were very pleased again with there work. They are always respectful of the homeowners, no loud music, no yelling and clean up after themselves. We have more for him to do in the next few weeks.

Jason showed up at stated time and performed the removal and replacement of windows. Very professional and timely and cleaned up after they were finished.
