I received a complaint from Angie’s List regarding a customer with extreme shock and disappointment. As we all know there are two sides to every story and while she has some valid points in her complaint to Angie’s List what is not highlighted is the company’s attempt to resolve each issue. To address the first issue of the windows being cleaned on different days I would like to state the customer requested we clean the windows inside at her convenience. This happened to be on a Saturday. Employees of Palmetto Window Cleaning do not generally work on Saturdays due to the hours they accrue throughout the week. However, to accommodate her, PWC generously scheduled her inside windows to be cleaned on her time table, while she was present, on a Saturday. This was a measure taken specifically for her to ensure she would be satisfied. Due to the amount of work she had requested at her residence, we cleaned the outside windows prior to completing the inside. During our work at her house, she requested that we re-clean four windows, which we gladly did with no questions asked. With that, I am at a loss when she states that “some windows never even got washed.” As she stated in her complaint, we were called back to her home multiple times (approximately 3 times) to address various issues she presented with the job. With that in mind, it is nearly impossible that windows were missed. As mentioned earlier, we re-cleaned four windows at her request to make sure she was satisfied with the job. In addition, all window seals were sprayed and thoroughly wiped down. The roof cleaning product states on the package “in best conditions, application will last several years.” Unfortunately, with the location of her home, the heavy shade provided by the amount of trees would not be considered the “best conditions.” Also, during the estimate, she was instructed that if the entire roof was not cleaned then the chances of the mold spreading from other parts of the roof were highly likely. I advised her we should clean the entire roof for optimal results and she elected to only complete a portion. Unfortunately, it seems from her letter the mold has spread quickly and returned. Another point she stated in her complaint is that “It took multiple times before the roof that had mold on it was removed properly.” She is absolutely right. Because we do pride ourselves on being a company of perfection, we would do exactly what we needed to do in order to get her roof clean. In many instances, it takes multiple applications to achieve the desired results. Again, this is another measure we took to ensure her satisfaction and the job being done properly. Unfortunately this was an inconvenience for her but it was simply the process we had to undertake in this particular situation. The alternative would have been to leave the roof with visible mold exposed due to stubborn stains. That simply was not an option for us as we wanted to complete the job that we were hired for. As it pertains to the clients concerns about her window screens, she did point out her dissatisfaction on two screens initially. In an effort to ensure her satisfaction, we re-screened all of them a second time at no charge to her. We also retained the cost for the material. The customer was made aware that she had worn down aluminum screen frames and that they weren’t in the best condition. Unfortunately, we run into instances where our hands our tied. In this case, my company cannot fix a worn or warped aluminum frame. The best we can offer is to try and re-screen. I can ensure that the windows were re-screened to the best of our ability. In learning from this, I will do a better job at pointing out all of the framing issues to a customer prior to re-screening and have them sign off on it to ensure this doesn’t happen again. In continuing to address her concern’s, she had every right to state that someone on the crew did allow for sealing overspray to get on her patio furniture and deck railings. I agreed with her that it was absolutely unacceptable so we returned and removed every single stain. Sealing overspray can happen, however, it is never acceptable to leave it that way. That’s why my company returned and finished the job well removing all stains on her furniture as well as her railings. The house and deck wash was the first service my company performed at her home. In her complaint she stated that “she could have done a better job herself with a garden hose.” To address this specifically, she initially stated it looked great and signed off on the job on a work order we have on file. The question I struggle to answer is if the job was not done to her standards, then why would she let us continue to come back and clean the windows, seal her deck, and clean her roof? This was the first time I was aware of anything unsatisfactory with the house wash.* Customer complained of not doing a good job of the house wash and deck wash weeks after the fact it was done. This complaint, which arrives almost an entire year later, has been addressed many times. As seen in the above response, she has many complaints with the work performed. What I hope you also see is that Palmetto Window Cleaning has gone to great lengths to address these complaints. When she was unsatisfied with the windows, we re-cleaned them. When she was unsatisfied with the screens, we re-screened. When she was unsatisfied with the stains, and rightfully so, we made sure every stain was removed. Palmetto Window Cleaning was sent a letter by her requesting a full refund. That letter was addressed with a return phone call which resulted in leaving her a voicemail. She paid 30% of the costs up front to cover supplies. We also agreed that she would pay the remainder upon completion in which she did. That begs the question of why she would pay the remaining 70% if she felt the job was not completed. As it pertains to her or any of our valued clients, we would never hope to collect payment for a job if the customer was not satisfied. Again, perfection is our goal. As you can read in her complaint and in this response, we returned to her home on multiple occasions to make sure she was satisfied. As a courtesy to her and her dissatisfaction, I offered a free house wash at any time. She has not called for this house wash. She is requesting a full refund for services rendered. She is requesting this refund nearly one year later through a company that highlights/exposes local businesses. Other than getting a full refund, I’m not exactly sure what her goal is now, but I do know that my company worked very hard in every way possible, returning to the home three times to make sure everything was perfect. It is for these reasons; I am shocked and in disbelief as this company’s efforts to offer complete satisfaction are now being questioned. While I would love to write a check for $1900 and prevent this story from possibly being published, I have to stand for my principles. Palmetto Window Cleaning went over and beyond to make sure the job was done and done well. As a result, if she does not wish to receive her complimentary house wash, I will gladly write her a check for $200 in the amount of the house wash as compensation. Will Bruce-Owner
