We live in a historic district of Greenville. It took Deckmasters some time to figure out what was allowed (not standard decking). This did add some cost. We used top of the line composite material they recommended. Result is fantastic. Crew was very professional, responsive and tidy.

The Deckmasters quote was competitive with the other bids we received and we were most impressed with their knowledge, experience and professionalism. Deckmasters was very willing to work with us on the design and materials for our new deck. They took care of permits and inspections and stayed on schedule. The workers were polite, hardworking and cleaned up the job site each night. The new deck is beautiful! It is solid as a rock and has extra reinforcement for the hot tub. It turned out to be even nicer than we hoped for and Deckmasters exceeded our expectations.

Requested a quote about a year ago and was told that we would have to make sure job came to $3k to make it worth it for crew to come. This is in a chat through Angie's. This past month I called and spoke with someone and provided photos of what we needed -- nothing said about a min. However, the day someone coming out -- they called to say it would have to be $3k for him to come to house. A supervisor did call me back when I called, and really did his best to smooth over. However quoted $2200 for something another provider is doing for $1000. I feel the min. is their right -- but should be part of the info listed upfront to prevent embarrassment.

The project ended up great overall. The duration was a little longer than expected but a good bit of that was due to customer (us) requested changes. Chris is a consummate professional and did a great job working through any issues that we had and was reasonably accommodating to changes that we requested. Chris always did a great job with things like deck boards that needed to be replaced or a ceiling issue we had. I would definitely work with Chris again. We are enjoying our new deck immensely.
Description of Work: We had a new deck added on the back of our house. The deck is approximately 40' X 14' with roughly half of it being a screened in room. The screened in room has a knee wall, a ceiling fan, a TV and electrical outlets. The outside deck has railings and wrap around stairs at the edge with lights in the risers. The deck material is treated wood with Trex railing, white stair risers and faschia. The deck has horizontal overlapped underpinning (also treated wood) with an access door to get underneath the higher end of the deck. The riser lights are hooked to an automated photocell box that turns them on and off with the light. The ceiling is vaulted and finished with white vinyl soffit that matches the soffit finish of the knee wall, and the roof is gabled and gutters were installed. Siding to match the house is on the outside (great color matching) of the knee wall and on the outside of the roof gable.

Our deck and patio are a dream come true. In a world where subpar workmanship seems the norm and where plans and schedules from contractors are accepted as mere suggestions, owner Chris Breen and his team crushed all of these notions. Chris worked through several designs until the plan matched our dream AND our budget. The workers were always on time and so very respectful. They left the job site neat and clean every evening. They worked every single day scheduled - again, always on time and never missing a day until they were finished. The deck is amazing - beautiful, sturdy and so functional. The subs who built the paver patio and fire pit also did a fabulous job. We could not be more pleased and have not hesitated to recommend Deckmasters everyone.

After a several day delay, the supplier finally contacted me requesting direct contact info. Provided the info. Supplier called and left a message, Called back and had to leave a message for the supplier to call me back. After several days they called back and left a message. I called them back and never heard from them again. Tried to set up an appointment once before through their website, but never heard back then either.

[Member Name Removed] I am sorry we were not able to connect with you in regards to scheduling your appointment. I show that you contacted us the evening of Friday the 16th at 8:05pm and we responded Monday morning the 19th at 11:38am requesting your contact information which you gave us that evening. We called on the 21st to schedule the appointment and left a message. You returned the call on the 21st after hours and then again on the 22nd when we were out of the office for the day. Your phone call was returned on the 23rd and message left for a couple of selections of dates that you could pick from. We received no call back after that point. Our office person attempted a last call on October 7th and left a message. As you can see we take our calls seriously and track them thoroughly not only through a lead system but also directly through our phone system that tracks all incoming and outgoing calls. We try our best to continue to follow up with people but never want to come across as pushy. If our system has missed a call you had made please let me know so I can figure out what may have gone wrong. I hope in the future you will be willing to call us again to set up an appointment. Amy

My wife and I had waited for decades to have a custom built Trex porch and deck for our home. After an thorough search of the builders, we settled on Deckmasters. Amy and Chris Breen (the owners) were patient, thorough, and expert in their knowledge. We received great advice throughout the process, ranging from porch roof design through color selections. What impressed us greatly was the loyalty and admiration that the subcontractors had for Chris and Amy. They routinely used words like "smart", "honest", "integrity", and "good people" when describing Chris and Amy. That matched up nicely with what we observed ourselves. In the end, we had the exact screened in porch with stone fireplace that we had always envisioned. If you want cheap, Deckmasters is not for you. If you want fairly priced and well constructed, Deckmasters is who you need.

Fantastic! The project took a little longer than expected, but that was simply due to weather conditions that were out of the crews control. The work site was left very clean every day regardless of what type of work was being performed. My deck project was fairly extensive and very labor intensive due to its overall height and size. However, Joey and his demo/construction crew came everyday when scheduled and work all day in the blazing SC summer heat. The work that was performed, the materials used, as well as the level of care that went into the project was all exemplary. Throughout the scope of the project we did have a few unforeseen issues arise. Our sales consultant, Chris, worked out the issues very quickly and professionally with either myself, and or the crew. The final product is exactly what we had hoped for. I would not hesitate to Recommend Chris Breen of Deckmasters, or Deckmasters in general, to manage any future projects we may need completed. Before and after pictures included. Thank you!

We had a great experience working with Chris Breen of Deckmasters. We had an initial meeting to discuss the scope. Chris got back to us shortly with a quote and schedule. The demo went smoothly and they carried off all of the old material. Within two weeks,we had a new deck. We decided after it was built to have Deckmasters come back and fill in under the deck using the same material and design of the privacy screen. We are very pleased with the quality of the construction and expert craftsmanship. We will be enjoying our new deck for many years to come.

We were hesitant to say the least to spend that much money on Trex but after speaking with several people, decided to go for it. We chose Deckmasters because of their reviews on Angie's List. We were not disappointed!!! David explained everything thoroughly utilizing graphic designs so that we were entirely comfortable with what we were purchasing. Hugo and his men installed the deck. They were punctual, professional and diligent. I don't often enjoy getting work done on my home but Deckmasters made this a truly seamless process. Our old deck was removed & the new deck installed in approximately a week's time. The debris was picked up and all I was left with was a beautiful new deck. The rail post lighting has ambiance. I just love looking out onto my deck at night. It makes me smile every time. Great experience!! Totally happy!! Would hire again!

Overall the project went very well. The demo team did their job quickly and carted away all the old deck materials. They moved all our old furniture, including a very heavy grill, into storage under the house. The support structure for the deck went in quickly and well. I can't emphasize enough how impressed I am with the quality of the construction, This deck is going to last for decades. There were a couple of delays in the construction, one health related to the foreman who had to go into the hospital with heart issues, one with a wrong colored railing post sleeve being ordered, and numerous days lost to to rain. Communication was always good. During the Trex installation, we changed our mind on one of the accent colors, which DeckMasters took care of with no trouble at all. We added some additional lighting to the deck which again, they took care of with no complaints. After the installation was complete we noticed that the LED lights in the flooring and stairs were a different color temperature (more blue vs warm) than the post cap lights. DeckMasters ordered a different accent light and replaced all of them so now they look perfect. We are on a golf course and all my buddies comment on how great the deck looks, especially the curved front we put on it.
Description of Work: Our old deck was incredibly poorly made and was no longer level, in addition to boards being warped, nails popping and generally being in need of refinishing. The supports under the deck (which is 12' off the ground) were insufficient and during the demo I was shown that there was not even any concrete used in the footings. We bought the house 3 years ago and the old deck passed inspection but had gradually gotten worse. DeckMasters removed the old deck and took away all the materials. The created a detailed drawing and renderings of the new deck, which we chose to be built using Trex decking. The design person was easy to work with and we got exactly what we wanted. The new deck is extremely well made, built like a tank. The tree floating and railing looks fantastic.

We appreciated David?s help in viewing/selecting the many available options for decking and railing at the Deck Store, as well as his quick turn around time with an estimate. Hugo and his helper, Jose, were very hard working, professional and meticulous. It was an expensive project, but it was worth it for the professional job that was done. The deck is now incredibly solid, with the support posts cemented in and beams one foot apart to better support the composite decking. The best part is that it took less than a week, compared to the many months if we had done it ourselves. We look forward to many family events on our new deck!
Description of Work: We had an old wooden deck removed and completely rebuilt and expanded to a 16x20' deck with Trex decking and Fortress railing. We upgraded from the Angie’s List coupon (available at that time) of deck lighting to LED cap lights and love them (as well as the automatic timer and remote).

We got a quote after we couldn't get the original builder to solve the problem and needed an expert's advice. David came and identified the issues and gave us a quote to redo the deck. The timing was delayed by multiple issues on our end not his. David worked with us during that time as an expert to help us get remedy from the original builder. After a year and a half we finally were able to get the deck redone. The final product is a gorgeous deck. We have to oil it now but the color of the real wood which we had never seen is shining through. The original wood had been sitting out and gotten dark then turned gray when the problem occurred and could not be corrected until remedies were settled. Dave was personally involved in the process throughout this ordeal and assured us that he would be able to install it correctly and make it look like it should. He did and we are grateful for that.
Description of Work: Totally redid a one and 1/2 year old deck that was installed improperly. Took the old deck boards out, repaired the under structure, Milled all the boards down to get rid of the cupping and reinstalled the deck boards with a professional look. Was 525 sq ft of decking on two levels with curved edges against a block wall..

Sir. Things come up. I politely asked to reschedule and you declined. I don't know what else I could have done to make you happy. An "F" rating considering our profound level of customer satisfaction is unfair to us. If I had simply not shown up which is common for contractors in our industry, I would have understood but clearly you are not capable of understanding that people can have issues that are out of their control. I had an emergency and asked to reschedule. I do not think that is unreasonable. Thanks anyway for the opportunity. Please consider changing your review feedback.

In 2011, we decided to replace our ground level patio with a walk out deck. We hired a contractor who demolished the old patio and installed a new deck that ran the whole length of the back of the house. A portion of the of deck had a drainage system installed underneath so we could eventually put a screened in porch under that section of the deck. Within a year the decking started warping and the section that was over the future screened-in porch began leaking. We called the original contractor. After he saw the problem with the decking, he called the manufacturer to come out and look at it. They agreed it was an issue with the decking and agreed to a free upgrade in materials. New product was delivered and installed by our original contractor. After a year, the deck started warping again. It still leaked. Called the original contractor. He brought a rep with him from the manufacturer. We learned they had put the original quality of product on it the second time - only in a different color - no upgrade. We started another warranty claim with the manufacturer and started to shop around for a new contractor. David came out and looked at the deck. He had contacts at the manufacturer and took the lead in getting the warranty through all the channels. He put forth a lot of effort getting us a fair settlement from the company. Once the warranty claim was completed and we had a check in hand, we picked out new decking. David's crew did an excellent job installing the deck. They did a lot of work repairing the drainage system that was installed by the original contractor but because the drainage system wasn't initially installed properly, we were warned that there could still be leaks but we took a chance. Almost a year later, and the deck still looks great. A couple of small leaks have developed but we knew it was a gamble when we didn't replace it. When we are ready to screen in the porch, we will call David to replace the drainage system. I wouldn't hesitate to call David again. He did an outstanding job and went way beyond the call of duty.

We were looking to replace our existing deck, which from the time we purchased the home (2 yrs ago) has rotted and required removal. We demo'd and removed the old deck ourselves, but knew we didn't have the time or patience to build a new deck ourselves. We found Deck Masters on Angie's List and saw lots of good reviews. David Elenbaum came out to measure the space and learn more about what we were looking for. A week later we met David at the DeckStore to view the computer designs he had created, made some adjustments, and signed a contract. The crew was at our house the next week and got right to work. The new deck was completed in a little over a week. The crew was courteous and did a great job of keeping the yard clean from debris. The project manager Hugo talked with us to make sure things were coming along as planned and we were able to make some more adjustments to the design as they worked. The crew did a great job.

We approached several deck builders looking for one to build a 2nd story low maintenance deck for our home. We were set on an aluminum product called Lock Dry. While David would rather have built us a composite deck he was willing to work with us with the material of our choice, even though he had never built with it before or worked with the manufacturer (but had a similar product). We chose him for several reasons. If you look at his reviews, they are stellar. We also figured that framing was everything and I was impressed by the pictures of his decks on some very severe locations (such as mountainsides). Two story decks can kill if they are built improperly and I was willing to pay for that security. He also checked out on liability and workmen's comp. Anyway, David gave us a quote that was reasonable considering the materials that were used. Aluminum deck material is more expensive than composite and you have to take into account the fact that we had joists on 12" centers, a center beam, joist hangars, and trex railing and trim. The deck had to be a freestanding deck because to get the slope for drain, the joists must run parallel to the house. You can get a cheaper quote if you want to sacrifice some of these things. He uses a higher grade of treated lumber than most and it shows. I am a bit of a control freak and not easy to work with but he accommodated my requests but countered me on the ones that he felt would compromise the quality of construction, or use of the deck. He was the only one who really "argued" me out of some stupid ideas (mine) Hugo and his crew were amazing. I have never seen people work so steadily. No smoking. No taking off for lunch etc. I have never seen anything like it! And the quality of the workmanship. The precision of the wood cuts and joinery. They used surveying equipment to ensure the elevation of the deck was perfect. Because I telecommute I was able to see things you might not see if you are away from home...they take no shortcuts or "hide" problems. They even moved some drain lines that were in the way and re-routed a section of fencing that was problematic. All this was above and beyond and unexpected. They also take great pride in their work and you can tell they are proud of what they do and it shows!
