 + -1 moreMy initial phone call message for an estimate was returned promptly and I had an estimate within a week. The estimate was not inexpensive, but I decided to move forward since I expected a positive change in the condition of the yard. Actually, the quality of the work was really good and I was pleased with the work. The sod looked great and they did a good job with high quality mulch and other tasks around the yard. I was already thinking about using them for future work. Unfortunately, once their trucks left my house I was unable to get in touch with them. The first item I discovered was a broken sprinkler head. This was no big deal and I expect this to happen with such a large job. No one answered the phone so I left a message describing the issue. A week went by and I got it fixed with my regular sprinkler guy. Next, I started to have some issues with the sod in the back. We had a ton of rain and the water just wasn't draining well. Again, left a message and no response. A little help from the supplier would have been nice in this case. Just for kicks I called again, but I knew I wouldn't get a response. Sure enough. I would have expected this type of service from someone who did a terrible job from the start, but the initial quality was good. I would have given them an A or B had they provided some customer service after the job, but apparently it's just about collecting the check. It's too bad because I had several people asking me for referrals on my lawn, but I steered them away after this experience.
Description of Work: I requested some landscaping and sod work in the front and back yard of my house. This included some grading in addition to mulch, sod, trimming of bushes and removal of a holly tree.

 + -1 moreWe've used Dan and crew for weekly lawn maintenance for several months now and they have been wonderful. Not only is Dan knowledgeable but he loves sharing that knowledge and has already taught me so much about my yard, watering needs and plants. They go above and beyond what their contract with us calls for and even took care of my elderly neighbor's leaves for free at least once that my neighbor has mentioned to me. They do a great job, are very thorough and detailed-oriented, know what they're doing and give great advice. Within the first month, our yard was already looking noticeably better. So glad we found them as they are worth the money.

Description of Work: I first contacted Down to Earth to get an estimate to prepare and reseed my lawn which had become very weedy and bare in places. However, the weather had become too warm to seed with the type grass that I wanted. They are now performing year around weekly lawn service that in summer includes mowing, edging, shrubbery trim, etc. on a per month basis. They also provide a sub-contract fertilize and weed control application as needed. In the fall and again in the spring, they will aerate and seed to establish a good, thick, healthy turf.

 + 0 moreOverall, I can't say enough good things about Dan Davis and his company Down to Earth of the Upstate. I cannot imagine using anyone else for my landscaping / lawn care needs.
Description of Work: I have used Down to Earth of the Upstate for all of my landscaping needs for the past 5 years. Dan Davis is professional, knowledgeable, and his company has always provided excellent service. I have recommended his company with confidence to my friends and co-workers, as well as to several neighbors who are now happy clients. Before I moved to my new home 4 years ago, Dan drew up and installed a complete landscaping and irrigation system at my old house in order to get it ready to sell. His prices were reasonable, and he did everything he said he would do exactly when he said it would get done. He explained why he was recommending planting each tree and shrub and was very knowledgeable about how much light and water each required, etc. He did the same thing for me at my new home and I have been extremely pleased with the results. In addition, I have used this company for routine lawn maintenance for the past 5 years. My yard always looks wonderful - he has my yard on a regular fertilization and mulch schedule so I don't even have to think about it. He sprays the weeds in the beds and makes adjustments to the irrigation system as needed. Every single time I have requested something additional, he and/or his wife Nancy have responded quickly either by phone or by e-mail, and the services are completed when he said they would be, and often ahead of schedule.

 + -1 moreit was terribly overpriced and lousy work. it will take years and lot of work to fix it.
Description of Work: the job they performed for me was laying the sodarround new pool. i selected them based on their claim of having decent equipment. it turned out that they did not have the equipment i was asking for. actually they did not have anything except rake. they failed to roll down (compress and even up the surface) before setting up the grass. i am left now with a horrible terrain full of holes and bumps that make the mowing impossible. they brought about 30% more sod then required and refused to take it back. unfortunately the job was prepaid. other then teeshirts with company logo they have nothing to stay in this business.
