I was very impressed when I first called A Better View for additional information as to cost etc. When they came out today they did an excellent job - very professional and even removed red clay from cement at base of house. Would only use this company in the future and would recommend them to my friends.

I really don't like to write bad reviews of providers, but this one really acted in bad faith. From the moment I talked to him on the phone, his biggest interest was how much I was going to pay him. He said it would be $220 to do my house, going by square footage. I said that I had a pathway and a retaining wall I wanted done as well. He said he would come by in the afternoon the following day. The following day at 10AM, I received a call that he was in the neighborhood next door on a similar sounding street. He then came by and I showed him my home and the work I wanted done. He told me $220 for the house and wanted an additional $150 for the retaining wall/walkway. I thought this was a bit high, so I told him I would have to think about it. I then made an offer that if he did the whole job for $300, I would do it today. He said no. I thanked him for his time, shook his hand, said goodbye and went inside. The next thing, I come back out of my house and he and his assistant are starting to work. Guessing that he agreed to my price, I just let him go about it. My mistake, because he just went ahead and washed the house and left everything else undone. He then expected the $220. I paid the $220, but I was bitterly disappointed in his business practices and I would not recommend him to anyone else. He did a pretty good job on what he did do, though left some 'stains' and there was still SOME dirt evident on the house. Overall, I can't complain too much about the quality of the work he did do. It is his actions that I find dishonorable, especially when he tried to tell me that I had never said goodbye and thanked him for his time. That's just a low life move. There are lots of pressure washers around and hopefully I will find someone who is more honest in their dealings than this gentleman.

Response from A Better View
Dear Mr. [member name removed], I apologize for taking so long to respond to your complaint and your experience with my company A Better View. The reason for the delay is that in four years in business, we have had only four complaints with yours being the most recent. So I am on unfamiliar grounds and wanted to read your complaint and speak with Curtis to hear both sides. Somewhere in the middle lies the miscommunication that resulted in this complaint. Two of the three complaints we have had were because of scheduling date issues and the third was when Curtis had accidentally missed cleaning one window. All three people are now repeat customers. This is a great example of my companies’ ethics, showing that we are not afraid to accept our mistakes and take the necessary steps to make it right with our customers. I am happy that you were satisfied with the overall washing of your home, as I know the importance of your valuable and large investment. That being said, I need to address some facts that may not be known to you. The cost of a licensed, insured, and bonded company to wash the size of your two-story home with a full basement (3000 square feet) would be approximately 12 cents per square foot, at the cost to you of $360.00. You paid $220.00 - a savings of $140.00. I am sorry you feel you paid too much. The “stains” on your home occurred because of years of neglect, a homeowner’s responsibility. The house is not going to be perfect as if it were brand new instead of 25 years old. This is especially true for a stucco home in the South with all of the moisture (stucco is a form of concrete). That being addressed, you called my company on Tuesday asking for a quote to wash your home. Curtis quoted $219.00. You liked and agreed to the price and booked your house to be washed on Wednesday. You then asked for a quote on your walkway and retainer wall. At that time, Curtis stated he could not give you a quote over the phone but would give you one when he arrived to wash your house at an additional cost. The day of your booking Curtis did arrive two hours early, but prior to arriving, he called you and asked if it was okay with you. You said it was. After Curtis arrived and after the both of you walked the house, the conversation turned towards the 500+ square feet walkway and retainer wall. Curtis then gave you an additional bid of $150.00. Normally that price would be 38-40 cents per square foot (or $190.00). You counter offered for the house, walkway, and retainer to be washed for $300.00. Curtis declined and stated he couldn’t do the walkway and retainer wall for $80.00. Curtis has told me that you said “fine, I will have to think about it.” Here is where I think the problem arises. You had already agreed and booked the house wash and when Curtis heard you say “fine, I will have to think about it,” he assumed you were speaking about your walkway and retainer wall since that was the topic of the conversation. Curtis then said to you “when and if you decide to do the walkway and retainer wall please give us a call.” He was still assuming you wanted your home to be pressured washed because the day prior you had booked it. Whether you said “good bye” or not I don’t know. You may have said it and Curtis didn’t hear you. I really wished that you would have spoken up and asserted yourself when Curtis and the my other employee started to wash your home and had them stop. They would have stopped and gladly put away the equipment. Had you done that, you would not be a displeased customer and we would be keeping our good name intact. Based on the statement in your complaint “Guessing he agreed to my price…” This was clearly a miscommunication by BOTH parties involved. I am NOT an unethical person, I do NOT employ unethical employees, and I do NOT run and operate an unethical, dishonest business. Just because both parties could NOT agree on a price for additional work does not make these statements untrue. Because of that miscommunication we are NOT solely responsible for this complaint. You as a customer, and as a homeowner should reflect the role that you were involved in - such as agreeing and booking your house wash. That being said NO business will go without complaints as much as they would like to. The difference between a legitimate, licensed, and insured business that takes pride of ownership is that they will address ALL complaints. Again, I am sorry that there was misunderstanding between you and my company and that both parties could not agree on the price of cleaning your hardscape surfaces. I also want to thank you for bringing this complaint and issue to my attention, so that I can ensure there will be no more miscommunications such as this with other customers. Respectfully, Stefania Pellegrini Owner A Better View

Curtis was very punctual in calling back and on time for appointment to do the work. He explained options and gave the cost of each. He also explained the cost effectiveness of doing several things at one time rather than separately. I have referred him to a friend for gutter cleaning and I would definitely use him again. D S
