Motte initially tried to stop us from getting a VA loan for a house (foreclosure) that we were buying. First he said we could not get the VA loan. And after we insisted that it is our money and we can pay for a VA appraisal if we want to, we finally pushed hard enough to get the appraisal. Of course the home passed the appraisal with no issues. But then he insisted that we had to pay for a repair on a door jam. When we refused, he said that there was no way that we could buy the house without this repair. He then said that it would only be a $100 repair. When we received the invoice in an email we saw that it was actually $325 charged by a handyman named Dennis Ondrasek. Somehow the amount he claimed had actually more than tripled and we refused to pay that much! I gave him a check for $100 and said that is what we agreed to. In addition, the door was still damaged and the casing is rotted through still to this day. A few weeks later, we find that this handyman hired by Toby Motte had sued us for an additional $313 since we only paid the $100 for his supposed repair. The handyman admitted to being 'old friends' with Motte in the court documents. On top of all the headaches this realtor caused us, the closing agent's secretary said that Toby was completely unprofessional. She said that he was difficult to communicate with and would often respond to her important messages with one-word emails or misspelled words. We also received misspelled emails with incomplete sentences from him to the point of being difficult to understand. Our closing was delayed a number of times and when we finally were able to close, the loan officer was unaware that we were not going to be in town. The closing agent did not have the necessary documents to close. Again Toby had not communicated with the closing agent's secretary to find out that we needed to mail her an original POA. Be weary of Motte and his pals, like Dennis Ondrasek, conspiring to swindle people out of their money.
Description of Work: A Carolina One agent, Toby Motte, was supposed to represent me and my husband as buyers when we chose a home in Charleston, South Carolina. He swindled us out of hundreds of dollars for a bogus repair on a house that was said to be sold 'as is'.
