Response from SHARPE'S SEPTIC TANK AND WELL DRILLING SERVICE
Good Morning Ms [Member Name Removed], We have just become active on Angie's List and have taken notice to you review of our company. I see where we pumped out your septic tank and replaced a lift pump in October of 2015 for $2000.00. May I ask what your concerns and complaints? I would like to take this as an opportunity to learn from any mistakes that were made and make corrections where needed. I would like to also offer a free pumping for your response. One reason I would like to do this is to basically ask for a second chance for us to make a good impression:) Secondly, you are do for regularly schedule maintenance between 3-5years:) Call me at our office 803-755-1615 if you would like to.

I hired this company to pump out a septic tank at a commercial building. They never came the day they scheduled even though they called and told me they were on their way. (It takes me 30 minutes to get to this location.) They arrived the next day. They dug down just enough to see the concrete lid of the septic tank. Instead of digging enough to find the hatch opening, they broke a hole in the concrete top big enough to get their hose in - about 8 inches. They left and did not repair the hole in the tank. The pump-out cost $265. I had to pay another company $179 to repair the hole in the tank.

The septic tank was first to be installed and that process was virtually painless. They showed up, dug the tank in, solid pipe and left. No issues with septic that I know of, though this is rarely used. Then we had the well installed in April of 2011 for a new home we were building. Construction was fine and payment was made. Fast forward to 2012, we have started construction and I had the well tested. Ecoli was found in the well along with total colliform bacteria. I called Sharpe's and they informed me that they told me to "shock" the well. Shocking a well includes pouring liquid bleach down into the well. At no point did they ever tell me to do this when the well was dug. I shocked the well by pouring 3 gallons of bleach into the well as recommended by Sharpe's. Drained well until PH level was back in balance. I then retested the well (keep in mind every test is between 25- and 75 depending on who you use.) Still positive for bacteria of both kinds. I called Sharpe's for assistance and they informed me that is was my fault and something that I was doing wrong. They said they would shock and test. Called me back the following week and asked me to shock it, that they would come test. I shocked the well, called them 24 hours after the PH was back in balance. They sent the honey pot driver out (guy who drives the septic truck) to pull the sample. He had no clue what he was doing, only what he was told. He could not provide me any information and was virtually useless to talk to. He took the sample to a different tester and it tested negative for bacteria. A GREAT THING!!!! So after talking with a representative at Sharpe's, local DHEC office, and another water treatment place I decided to wait 2 weeks and test again without shocking. Guess what, more bacteria. This is where it gets fun. I called Sharpe's and was told I needed to talk with the owner or his wife. I call back and talked with his wife. She was just short of actually cursing at me and could not understand why I would keep testing the well. You are supposed to test the well, it is the safest thing you can do when it involves your drinking water. I was told that they installed the well, fulfilled their obligations and that they could not guarantee the flow or quality of the water. This I understand, however for right at $5500 I would expect a little cooperation in trying to determine why a 300ft deep rockwell would be contaminated with bacteria. I did not expected to be cussed at or treated like I was. They were extremely rude and had no interest in helping me. Possible causes for well contamination are: improper construction, use of non-potable water during construction, bacteria in the pipes, cracks in well casings, grout, etc. Damaged or improperly working septic tanks in the area, livestock fields in the area. With the number of causes, I was not trying to tell Sharpe's that they were reason for the bacteria, I more wanted their expertise in trying to track down to make sure that the water was safe for our family to drink. I never asked that they pay for any of this, I was more than willing to pay them for their time and services. In the end, I was treated VERY rudely without correction of our issue. I am now having to hire another well driller to help in this matter. I would not hire Sharpe's ever again, to do anything.

We were very happy with the job; they even moved and replanted a young fig tree that otherwise would have been sacrificed. Over the years Sharpe has provided many services for us - including installation of a new septic system, complete "renovation" of an old septic system, occasional pumping, plus well repairs. Their prices are excellent and response time is very fast. We would not use anybody else.
Description of Work: Sharpe recently installed a french drain system for our residence.
