I scheduled an appointment for a tub refinishing with new drain. The owner talked with me on the phone about the job--four hours to do the refinishing, and the worker would return the following day to finish up and replace drain. The work was delayed two times before he came to the house. On arrival, he went right to work and was done in about 4.5 hours. Everything must be removed from the bathroom-- window curtains, towels. He completely covered all surfaces with paper and plastic bags, all taped down. The smell of the finish was strong, but not too bad, and it did off-gas rather quickly. It's a good idea to close all doors to bedrooms before the chemicals are applied. I only did this with one bedroom, and there was a big difference--the air quality in that room did not seem affected at all. The worker didn't get back to finish up with the drain and new grout for three days after the initial work. When he returned, he got set to install the new drain and discovered a cracked pipe. I had to get a plumber to take care of that so the refinisher applied new grout beautifully and left the drain for the plumber to install. He reminded me to tell the plumber to use care on the new tub surface. He cleaned up the work area before he left. As for the quality of the tub, I gave it a B because the surface is not a glassy-perfect porcelain look, as I had expected. Being a spray-on technique, there is some slight texture to the appearance. It is high-shine and feels smooth to the skin. I feel that the worker was quite skilled at the job, but the product has its limitations. Tips:Get a written estimate and ask for a site visit before work is done. Save time by removing everything from the bathroom prior to the job. Close doors to reduce odor spreading to other rooms.
