Mistake #1: I turned my washing machine on and we left the house for about an hour. Upon our return my daughter opened the door to sloshing water. We had no idea how long the water had been running but we were shocked by the amount, probably 1.5-2 inches deep at the back door. I ran to the machine, shut it off and unplugged it . Water had spread through the laundry room, a hallway, part of a bath as well as half of the kitchen, all of which had vinyl flooring. Also affected was the opening between the kitchen and the family room which is carpeted. While we got busy clearing out the water, which I also noticed was spilling into the floor vents, we called a plumber to fix the washer. Turns out the washing machine hose detached from the pump. As the plumber left he told me to be sure everything got dry or we would have a mildew problem. Mistake #2: My husband suggested using the wet vac, I didn't even know we had one. I probably spent more than an hour slowly going over the area repeatedly to draw out all the water. The carpet still felt a little damp but I figured it would dry out by morning. Next morning the carpet was dry. Life as usual. That evening, my teen son came in and asked about an odor in the house. I had been home all day and hadn't noticed anything. The third day we awoke to a stench in the house. I didn't know what to do so I started with baking soda and Febreze, nothing helped. I could smell the mildew coming from the carpeted area and I knew the wet vac didn't do the trick. Good move #1: I found Complete Scene Intervention on a recommendation from Angie's List. I also liked knowing they were bonded, licensed, and insured, most listings were not. I called that morning and two technicians arrived within the hour as promised. After examining (and smelling) the extent of the water damage I was given recommendations for the work that needed to be done, and a price for doing the job. As a do-it-yourself-er I told them what I would be doing on my own. The price was adjusted accordingly and agreed upon. They started work soon after They explained the procedure every step of the way and were very considerate of the household. The machines were kept out of the main walking paths as much as possible. They left the air mover all day in an effort to be sure everything was dry. The water was removed from the floor vents and filters were removed from air returns. This was followed by pumping elements throughout our vent system which made the whole house smell so fresh it was fantastic. Everyone working with Complete Scene Intervention was pleasant to work with. They were friendly, courteous and honest. When I asked questions they gave me good tips and sensible advice. I was more than pleased with the service and I will definitely use their services again. I have also recommended CSI to family and friends who have been very pleased.
Description of Work: First came the water extraction over an approximately 12 square foot area of carpeting. The carpet and pad were lifted from the sub-floor and the mildew was visible on a large section of the pad so that was removed and disposed of and the air mover was positioned to dry everything. Next was the odor remediation of the entire house (+/-3000sf). I do not remember all the technical terms for what they did to get the mildew stench out but I do remember it was done via the air duct system in the house. When it was finished, the house smelled like rain. It was heavenly. Lastly, they cleaned the carpeting in one bedroom of an old stain that I was unable to remove myself even after trying several different products that had worked on other stains in the past.

On Saturday July 31, 2010 will be a night I will remember for a while. It was late and I decided I wanted something to eat. I usually cook everything on the grill outside but it was late so I put some meat in a pan and turned on the stove. I decided I would go and take a shower and 20-30 minutes later I exited the bathroom to find my house full of smoke and the meat in the pan had disintegrated. I quickly took the pan outside and opened all windows and my door to air out my home. After a while the smoke was gone and I went to sleep, hungry! I awoke the next morning to a horrible smell. I quickly opened the door and windows again and started cleaning walls, cabinets, and floors with pine sol. The smell was not getting any better so I packed up my clothes and headed to stay with a family member. The next day ( Monday) I called to a local fire restoration place and they explained I had a ?protein fire? and it would take a while to get the smell out and their prices start at $2500.00; I knew I couldn?t afford that so I went home and researched ?protein fire? on the internet. I began cleaning with vinegar, bleach, ammonia, and put out bowls of baking soda. Nothing was working! After using 4 bottles of Febreeze and putting all of my living room furniture outside on the lawn, I quickly began to give up. I found out that my air conditioner filter was covered in a greasy film from the smoke and it was circulating throughout my home. That night I posted on Facebook hoping someone could help me with my protein fire. I quickly received a message from Bill Flynn with Complete Scene Intervention offering his services. I had tried everything so I decided to give up and figured I would be making payments for the rest of my life. That next morning (Tuesday) I called Bill with Complete Scene Intervention. He ensured me that he could take care of the problem and would send people right then. They came out and set their equipment and began working hard. They kept me up to date and told be everything that they would be doing and what to expect. I left everything in their hands, hoping for the best. Within hours after the equipment was removed from my home, I was moving back in! The burnt smell was gone. I am so grateful of everyone at Complete Scene Intervention and how quick they responded and saved everything I owned. Thank You!
