Chose Burnett Owens Construction because he came across as a sincere Christian man who was also a Deacon and Sunday School teacher. He was the highest bidder. Job started OK last February with a competent man who did the framing. Then other men came in who were incompetent and hung the exterior door wrong, out of square and with large gaps. The entire door and frame had to be ripped out and re-installed. Another man was painting over sawdust and using interior paint on the outside. He charged us for a split system air conditioner that was never installed. They had no clue how to design four thresholds for the doorways and a hardwood floor was laid with chalk and glue all over the floor and walls. Subsequently, the floor was scratched and gouged by his men.Very poor detail to finish carpentry and painting. Burnett was contracted to get one third of the money up front, one third at halfway point and one third upon the full completion of the job. We had to leave for 5 months due to a dying mother 3 weeks after he received the second payment he begged for another $8,000.00 which we gave him. When we returned, he was a frequent no show and never completed the project. He sent a brick mason to finish the interior painting with another man who left suddenly without notice. We asked for the $8,000.00 back and he scoffed at us. Now, a year later, we still have sheets over our furniture and will have to hire a competent flooring contractor to install the thresholds at the cost of $1,600.00. Also, we hired a professional painter to paint the room inside and out. He tends to hire the cheapest possible sub contractors.
