Very well. Company ordered the piece I needed. Came in within the time-frame I was quoted. They did show up to install without calling me first. Owner did call to make sure it was okay to go ahead and install - he was parked outside. This was no problem as I was home. Maybe they were in the area. Owner did point out possible issues, which he does not work on. Gave me possible contact if issues should arrive. Also supplied me with pictures of the work he completed on my chimney so I could verify the work. Only took about an hour to remove old and install new cap. Might have been a little expensive, but worth it for the quality I feel was provided.
Description of Work: Needed a larger cap installed on top of my chimney.

He found a dead bird that apparently got lost in the chimney vent that was preventing my furnace to work. The furnace worked again and I appreciated his punctuality and professionalism very much.

He did a great job on both projects! We're very pleased and feel safer.
Description of Work: Cleaned out the chimney of our wood-burning stove/fireplace. Also put a new dryer vent hose on the dryer, and relocated the place where it blew out from the house. It formerly went all the way under the house to the opposite side...more than 20 feet! It had years and years worth of lint in it, and was a fire hazard.

Ron showed up after waiting a couple of months for an opening. He seemingly did a thorough job cleaning the chimney and then telling me all about his state of the art 1000 dollar chimney topper. He said our chimney topper may need to be replaced in 2 days or 2 years, he could not say for sure. Ironically, a few days later it rained and we could hear the water loudly leaking in the fireplace. It never leaked previously. When I called Ron he quickly quoted his chimney topper and basically said I told you so. Come to find out a competitor came out and sealed the chimney and eliminated the leak. In addition, the competitor has the same chimney topper with less turnaround time for much less. My advice would be to call around before you commit to anything.

They were punctual and did an excellent job of examining my chimney to see what its capability was. They also had a few recommendations for repairs that were needed. The cost was around $300 for the inspection and the cleaning, which I think was a bit expensive, but I was very pleased with their work. When I would do the repairs that they recommended, I will definitely use them again.

We use Ron on an annual basis. He is always punctual, professional, and does a great job. Ron covers EVERYthing and vacuums the chimney. He has done repair work (reline several years ago and new chimney cap to replace the one--too small--that was on the chimney when we bought the house) and gets rid of all the creosote. We have been real happy with his work and will continue to use him every year. And, yes, he wears a top hat!

The guy I talked with responded very quickly and was super helpful on the phone. In the end it turned out we figured out how to fix it on our own and didn't need a professionals assistance, but I would absolutely consider reaching out to this company again. Just keep in mind that come the fall they get very busy so things have to be schedule out weeks in advance.

We have used them twice to clean our chimney. The first time they installed a chimney top cover. For the last three times it rained we had water coming down the chimney. We called them to look for a reason. They recommended a larger top for $about $1,700. They cleaned the chimney again and charged an extra $100 to clean with a chain because of creosote not being removed with their brushes. They recommended a lot of things that others said was unnecessary. They think a lot of their top hat,

Top Hat is a person named Ron Rust. Watch out for this guy. He is slick. I needed a Chimney Top on a house I bought. This is a metal cage with a lid on top that goes on top of your chimney to keep birds and other animals out. Mine was about a foot wide, about two feet long and 8 inches high. Mr. Rust did not give me a firm price. Instead he told me that my Chimney Top needed to be and quot;special ordered.and quot; So he wrote down his and quot;estimateand quot; on a piece of paper and I initialed it. This authorized him to find out the actual cost of this special order. He did not break out parts and labor. Mr. Rust's estimate for me was $962.95. This included tax. I thought it was on the high side. But having never bought one before, I thought I was safe waiting to see how the final price turned out. I expected him to call me to get my OK. Instead, a few weeks later he installed the Chimney Top without my knowledge. The reason is that I had not moved in yet. The house was empty. He knew this because earlier he cleaned my chimney while I was there. Lo and behold, when Mr. Rust mailed me his bill, his and quot;estimateand quot; and his actual price, were identical. This told me that something was not right. When I questioned Mr. Rust's bill, he finally wrote me a letter with his demand for payment. In his letter, he stated that: (1) his and quot;estimateand quot; constituted a and quot;contract, and quot; and (2) that it was his and quot;policyand quot; to charge and quot;three timesand quot; the and quot;actual costand quot; of the Chimney Top, which he orders from a supplier. This was news to me. He also claimed about one and a half hours for labor. Maybe so. Maybe not. But I was not going to dispute this, since I was not there. I do not mind paying for shipping and handling. I do not mind paying a contractor a reasonable markup for parts, say 10%, for his effort picking up the phone and ordering the part. But the idea of charging not just triple its true cost, but triple its exaggerated cost, on top of installing the larger and wrong one, was how he was he converted an approximately $350 job, at most, into a $963 bill. Would you pay a plumber three times the cost of a sink he orders on line? Or a carpenter three times the cost of a door he buys at Home Depot? Mr. Rust sued me in small claims court. My reasoning about price gouging on the part did impress the magistrate. He ignored the legal definition of a contract (magistrates do not have to be lawyers). And he was unimpressed that Mr. Rust never got back to me and instead simply installed the chimney top when he knew I had not yet moved in. The magistrate ruled in favor of Mr. Rust. I was amazed. But an appeal in circuit court is probably not worth the time and legal fees. The lesson? If you want to do business with Mr. Rust, DO NOT EVER even initial a piece of paper from him with only a few words and a number on it, until you: (1) do your research, first, on the internet, if you are unfamiliar with what he is selling you, and (2) get other estimates from other chimney sweeps, even if they are from out of town. If you do otherwise, you will fall into Mr. Rust's trap. He is also a good actor in small claims court, playing the and quot;little guy.and quot; Like I said, he is slick.

The work went very well. He removed the old cap and covered the chimney with a tarp while he made the cap to the required specifications. I have had no problems since. I will say that I called another sweep first and he had some reservations about making the repair and,in fact, recommended Top Hat. I have recommended Top Hat to others.
Description of Work: He replaced a faulty chimney cap that had been causing leaks in an upstairs bedroom. He also at a later date cleaned the chimney. I had been having trouble for a while and thought that the roof was the problem. Finally one of the roofers told me that the cap was at fault.

Work was accomplished in very professional manner. They had to return to install the chimney top as they did not have the proper one in stock. Returned on the day established and installed the top. Whole job was completed with no inconvenience or problems. Important in a chimney sweep - they were exceptionally clean with no dirt or mess left after the job outside or inside. Highly recommended.

I paid $450 for an inspection, a chimney cleaning and a minor repair. The other $300 was for a product - a chimney cap. I know there is a price for professional services; however, I realized after paying $300 for a stainless steel chimney cap that I saw at Lowes a few days later for $30. It too was stainless steel and appeared to be comparable in every way. Had I not been so impressed with their service I would have taken the time to price one. Honestly, I think their price for services has to be worth it. They know what they are doing, they were very professional, they took great measures not to dirty my home with soot, and I am happy to pay more for their services. I can only say if you are purchasing an product you might want wait and price it first. For the profit margin in the chimney cap I am sure they would have come back to place it on at another time for the same price.
Description of Work: These people are exceptionally nice and professional. I have no doubt the standard of their work is superior in their field. It is so hard anymore to find "experts" that are somewhat competent and they demonstrated they were most competent.
