I found Craftsmen on Call on Angies list and called for help with my to-do list of some miscellaneous home repairs. I left a message on a recorder. Two days later, Ron Callahan returned my call. I was somewhat confused because his name was not listed by any of the previous Angies List reviewers or on the Craftsmen on Call website. It appears that Cratftsmen on Call is run by someone who simply receives calls and subs them out to other contractors/handymen in the area. At that point, I felt a little uneasy and wondered if I should go ahead. However, Ron seemed like an enthusiatic guy so I went ahead to have him out for an estimate. I did hire Ron to do the work and I am glad I did. Ron and his helper Larry took care of the items on my list in two trips to my house. They had some good suggestions on my projects and did good quality work. Ron is pleasant to work with. They showed up to work when they said they would. It took about 2 1/2 weeks from initial discussion to get the work done. I would not hesitate to use them again.

McKinley worked every day until the work was completed. He was on time and I never had to worry if he was on the site working.I even left town for NASA training and talked to him over the phone from Washington while the projects were being completed. Both list took about a week. Putnam Steet
Description of Work: McKinley performed the following work after the current contractor had to be let go since he could not complete the jobs. McKinley came in and saved the day. He asked that I make up a dream list and put everything I wanted done. He then gave me a price for all of the work in two groups. He worked on one group and once finished he then completed the second group all in about a weeks time. He worked most of the day every day until all the items were done. 1. Outdoor outlet for front and back porch 2. 3 outlets in kitchen moved up one inch so that backsplash and drywall will fit 3. New exhaust fans in both bathrooms 4. Caulk tub surround and shower in guest bathroom 5. Trim on kitchen cabinets replaced and fixed correctly 6. Window in bathroom taken out and new one installed List two: 1. Electrical outlets checked and install new ones so all work (three removed)2. New Porch light installed for front and back of house3. Cracks in brick walls on outside of house4. Dryer vent installed5. Icemaker line installed 6. New AC vent installed in room

Terry and Jason did a fantastic job. All the work was done very professionaly and ond time and budget. It was amazing to see someone pay so much attention to detail. I have lived in Columbia for 10 years and have become very disappointed with contractors who don't call back when called and others who do sub standard work.. The opposite is true of Terry and Jason. Ihighky recommend their services. Overall experience should have a catagory of A++

Perfect! Rob Lambert was a joy to have come and take care of both small and large tasks! He promptly responded to my inquiry and scheduled an appointment. On the scheduled service day, running a bit behind, he called to let me know of the delay (this is huge in a world where common courtesy seems to be lacking!) and arrived before his estimated time. He was professional, courteous, conscientious, and exuded a true joy for what he does. His attention to detail is amazing. If you want someone to just come in and throw something up quickly, then look elsewhere. However, if you want quality work performed by a professional to the standard he would do for his own property, then Rob is the best choice. I have a few other tasks that Rob will be back to finish up and he will definitely be the go-to person for any other large or small tasks. I would fully recommend him with no reservations!

We are out-of-town owners of a patio home. We appreciate that Mr. Lambert was willing to work with us by phone and email. He made excellent suggestions that saved us money on materials. He was prompt in communication with us and our tenants. His fee was very reasonable. We will definitely call on him when needed again!

Nothing was accomplished but two excuses to reschedule and then he fell off the face of the earth .
Description of Work: Ischeduled with this company two times, and he needed to reschedule twice. He never attempted a third time. I was disgusted that I believed he actually wanted to provide services. If he was good with the first job, I had several others for him, but he just blew me off.

I am so sorry! The person you are referring to was working with us a couple months over the holidays to help with extra work! He did a great job and a lot of people loved his work and his pleasant nature! The one thing that needed work was his accountability to customers. A couple other times we had a customer say they hadn't heard from him. Once he was sick and apologized to the customer and this time he obviously hasn't. I looked back through the emails and they had scheduled times to work but never did in the 18 emails I read. I have called Berje a few times and haven't gotten a call back either. I have texted him and emailed him and haven't gotten a response. I understand how frustrating it is! I wish I could say he doesn't represent our company, but obviously over the holidays he did represent our company and for that I apologize profusely. What I can say is that our company has a history of accountability and taking care of our customers above and beyond what is normally expected. Though all our customers tell us this few write reviews to help the good service providers stand out and keep us accountable and to shed light on the poor service of other companies. When considering a handyman, please hire us and let us know you have read our reviews and you expect above average service!

i apologize! the customer is on our list to call! i was very sick for a week (something that is going around) and couldn't make it to Thursday morning bible study either! i really do apologize, we want to take care of everyone as quickly as possible! we are a little different than typical contractors. around this time most contractors are hurting for work. handyman services, on the other hand (no pun intended), are more busy around the holidays because so many people have honey do lists they need done before family comes in! this is our busiest time (which isn't a bad thing, it just means we ask for a little patience) we are pulled in a lot of directions. we try to get to everyone with in 2 weeks. the holidays usually book us solid until Christmas (though we can still do small jobs if it needs to get done before the holidays) our already busy schedule was pushed back with my unforeseen sickness, so i apologize! there is no excuse, we just ask if one wants us to help, especially around the holidays, to have a little extra patience :) we are only human! but we try really hard (as our reviews show) worst case - the day after Christmas and on is usually a sure bet! :) have a great holiday everyone! (and tell your family who did he nice crown molding) :)

Since my first experience with McKinley was so positive, I had him return to complete the "honey do" list that has been sitting idle for almost three years. It was a crazy day moving from project to project, but McKinely and Rob finished everything in one day...even with adding on changing the cabinet lights instead of just bypassing the switches so all of the bases would match (and they had to run to the store to get the materials). Everything from my list is fixed/working...the dresser drawers are fantastic! They really seem to care about making the customer happy. They communicate from the time they expect to arrive (and call or text if they are running late), the explain anything you ask and give suggestions on how to make your project turn out even better. Both McKinley and Rob seem to have a vast variety of skills to tackle any project I asked for. One important note: THEY LISTEN! While Rob was well into working on my drawers I told him that Mckinley and I talked about alternative hardware to just fixing the wooden gliders. He listened, discussed options with McKinley, and then talked to me about what they would need to do (alter the drawer a bit, purchase new hardware, add blocks inside the dressers to screw the hardware in...) I understood exactly what was going to happen before any additional alterations were made. I am already making another "honey do" list to have Mckinley and Rob come back so my Honey don't have to!
Description of Work: *Replaced broken runners on (3) dresser drawers with heavy duty cabinet slides. *Raised the gas shutoff valve to my grill. * Installed a new ceiling box for a broken one and reinstalled the ceiling fan. *Adjusted the deadbolts/hinges on (3) exterior doors. * Repaired a broken dresser drawer knob. * Bypassed the touch sensor on my dining room china cabinet. * Bypassed the touch sensor on my den bookshelves, removed the broken can lights and replaced them with LED can lights. * Changed the intermediate bulb base size can lights for LED can lights in my corner cabinets. * Repaired drywall in garage where we removed electrical boxes in the ceiling and prepped for painting. * Cut and routed a shelf board to attach to my fireplace mantle.

McKinley swept in and saved the day when the contractor I originally hired failed to show up. He worked me into his schedule quickly, came when he said he would and did exactly what he promised to do--install a tongue in groove spruce cathedral ceiling. He checked with me at each new step of the process to make sure I liked what he was doing. He was patient with me as I explained how I did not like the "tomato stake" looking trim the mill sent me to trim out the ceiling. He made a few suggestions of other moldings I could use and I am so thankful that he did! The ceiling is beautiful and I am very happy with McKinley's & Rob's work.

McKinley arrived punctually and completed work in a reasonable amount of time. I could not ask for a nicer, more courteous handyman. His service and work are just as impeccable! McKinley's workmanship is excellent and I know it will get done right---without hesitation. Mckinley has done work in the past and I would not hesitate to have him back again. He has been able to repair anything I've asked so far.
Description of Work: McKinley repaired a leaky window in our new home, as well as many other things in the past, which our builder failed to repair. The current work required sealing a window on the exterior, as well as repairing drywall and repainting on the interior.

McKinley is prompt and courteous, but his prices were outrageous. He gave me a quote for $4500 to do a little bit of remodeling. I had already prepped (removed everything down to the bare studs) and purchased all the materials. He needed only to hang the drywall, mud it, and fish some recessed lighting. I did not like the quote so I bought a couple do-it-yourself books and did it myself. It took less than 40 hours to complete solo and it looks fantastic. Doing the math, it was about $120 per hour just for labor if I had hired this service.

Response from Craftsman On Call
The way I am different than other contractors is I do the work myself. Other contractors estimate a job and then send their workers to do the actual work which sometimes causes problems. ***** This is a quick overview of my estimate for Member. I really liked meeting him and talked many times with him so I couldn't say anything bad about him if I tried. That being said, in this overview I tried really hard to be neutral and just say what he and I did and not make either of us look good or bad. If I didn't do a good job at this please let me know and I appologize :) ***** I have only gotten two bad reviews out of hundreds of customers most of which are repeat customers. The two bad reviews came after I recommended (at their request) another contractor for certain work (first a painter, then a floor refinisher). I don't know if they had bad experiences with these other people but the reviews of me came after I passed their names on. Like my last bad review, this is the first I've heard of Member being unhappy. The last time I heard from him he thanked me for helping talk through some of the work. He called me from Angieslist and asked about floor refinishing and a list of other projects. I passed on the name of a respected floor refinisher who actually beat me out to Member's house. I got there after the flooring guy left. (i'll leave his name out but if you need a great flooring guy I will give you his number, he's great at what he does) I walked through with Member for over an hour took pictures of before (like I always try to do) and wrote down what he wanted done and gave suggestions on other things he could do. He told me he was between jobs and I mentioned if he wanted to do some of the demo, it would save money (since he said he had the time). I sent him the first estimate. He called me a couple of times and asked how to do certain things like pre-running wires for recessed lighting and hanging sheetrock to save money. He called a few times from lowes to make sure he got the right things. He asked me to resubmit an estimate taking into account what he was doing on his own. I sent him the second estimate. He called again and said the estimates where still too high but asked a few more question which I answered for him. I think a couple days went passed and I didn't hear back from him (but I wasn't waiting for a call figuring he'd call if he wanted me to do anything) I got a call last friday (August 5, 2011) from my flooring guy asking me how well I know Member because Member had asked him if he would do the floors but wait to get paid until later since he didn't have the money. I told him I felt good about Member from our interactions but didn't know him more than having met him from Angieslist. I did tell the flooring guy that I don't usually do work for someone who tells me they can't pay for materials or when the work is completed. He told me he felt the same and may call Member back and let him know he would love to do the floors when Member had the money to do them. I have not heard from my flooring guy or Member since last friday. I've always gone out of my way to make my customers happy whether I actually do work for them or not. I actually had one nice lady tell me I was too expensive for her but thank you for giving me tips on what she could do herself to update her kitchen. I wanted her to remember me happily. Again the only two bad reviews of me came after I recommended other contractors to the customers. (which I tell everyone I can only vouch for my quality, that's why I do the work and not hire a minimum wage helper to be in your home) Please, if anyone is upset call me so I can do everything I can to make it right! :)

Consistent with his Angie's List references, McKinley turned out to be a very personable and knowledgeable individual. He completed the work before noon -- just as he had estimated. He primed the treated lumber so that it could be painted right away. (We had agreed beforehand that I would do the final painting of the repair site.) His craftsmanship was outstanding -- as you can discern from the previous statements. McKinley did an excellent job. He did it promptly, efficiently, and the overall job was outstanding. We estimate that this repair site will last for at least 50 years -- given the materials and care that he used in doing the repair! If we ever have any other project like this, I know just the person to do it! McKinely Pritchard! It was a genuine pleasure to find someone who is competent, honest, and personable. I give him my highest rating.
Description of Work: Three years ago a wind storm caused a limb from a tall pine tree by our house to fall and damage the corner of the roof over our front porch. Our insurance paid for the supposed repair of the damage; unfortunately, the repair work was superficial and this spring we discovered that wood rot had set in on the corner of the roof. I attempted to get our insurance company to make the repairman repair and replace the damaged corner -- to no avail. (Repairs of this sort should certainly last more than 3 years!) After wasting weeks trying to get something done, in desparation I turned to Angie's list to find a reliable handyman to go ahead with the repair and pay for it directly. Of all the handymen listed in the Columbia, Craftsman On Call had the most favorable and numerous references. So I contacted them. McKinley Pritchard turned out to be the propietor and workman of Craftsman On Call. After my call, he promply came to inspect the damage. We discussed what needed to be done in terms of replacement materials, as well as cost of the actual repair. He made careful measurements of what materials would be needed to repair the damaged (and now rotted) corner. We decided to replace the damaged timber with solid material that had been treated to prevent recurrence of rot. McKinley was able to track down a source of solid, kiln-dried, treated lumber, which he did in few days. (General building suppliers like Lowes and Home Depot simply do not have the needed material in stock). Having that information, McKinley described what the cost of the material would be, and what his rate would be for doing the repair. Given the nature of the repair job, both seemed very reasonable. I agreed to have him do the repair. He explained that he would pick up the treated lumber and come to our home to begin the work at 8:00 AM. (That was today.) He arrived quite promptly and set to work in an efficient and clearly knowledgeable manner. He quickly removed the damaged timber and very carefully replaced these with the new treated materials. (Repairing a corner of the roof is no simple job. It required specialized tools to bevel and cut each replacement piece.) McKinely carefully beveled and precisely cut each piece of treated board was so that they fit together precisely with the existing solid wood in our roof. The finished work was done on time and looked just like new.

He's a very personable, professional man. We came to Angie's List to find someone to do these jobs for us and picked McKinley. What we liked about him was that he does the work himself instead of relying on sub contractors. I believe this makes a big difference in workmanship. He met with my husband to go through the things we wanted done and quoted a price for a half days work. We called him a few times to make sure we were getting the correct items on the list for the tasks we wanted completed and he was very good about calling back in a timely manner. He was a little late getting here on the day he was to work, but he called us before to let us know he was picking things up at Lowes for the job. We didn't mind this a bit, and appreciated him calling to give us a heads up. He completed everything that he said he would and we absolutely will use him again in the future. We also went with the suggestion of someone on here that said to let him know that we would do the clean up. I would agree with this as I think that helped him get more things done.

I am so sorry, this is the first I have heard of this! I have just read this report today for the first time (July 25, 2011) and have not gotten a call or email from the member. When I worked for her, she seemed very happy with all that was done. At the end I recommended a painter and had them call her. I did talk a lot (my personality flaw, but also tried to give some tips on things to do to sell a house quickly) I thought that I did everything on her list and even some extra stuff I will admit the kitchen faucet stumped me :( Again, I'm sorry if the member wasn't happy, I honestly didn't know she wasn't, She didn't let me know. I enjoyed working for her and enjoyed talking to her and our connection with Black Mountain, NC Next time I will try to talk less :) Please, if anyone is not happy, let me know :)

McKinley came by to look at what we needed to have done about 3 weeks before the work. We got a detailed list of what to buy. We e-mailed questions to him and he always responded. Before he came we cleared out the area where he would be working and had everything set up for him so he could get right to it. He had to remove some trim work to install the desk. The desk looks great and he trimmed it in and caulked. He had no problem hanging a solid core bi-fold door that had to go in to tile. The door also had to be shortened. He was able to set his saw up on the front porch. Everything he did turned out great and we will be calling him again. A good tip is to have everything set up and ready and also to do the clean up. He asked for a broom and was going to clean up but I wanted him to be working on things I can't do!
Description of Work: McKinley installed 2 bi-fold doors. One was a solid core and the bottom went in to tile. The other was a standard bi-fold for a closet. He installed a desk in our office using 2 laminate countertop pieces and hung a cabinet over the desk. McKinley also shortened a cabinet in the laundry room, replaced the screen on the patio door and replaced some shoe molding.

McKinley emailed me. I called and made arrangements with him to meet at my son's mobile home to give me an estimate of how much it would cost to repair the floor. I was immediately at ease with the way he presented himself. He not only gave me as estimate but offered a lot of information about other things. We made arrangements for him to come to my home to give me an estimate for the things I wanted done. I decided not to have him repair the floor in my son's mobile home. This was a personal choice and had nothing to do with McKinley. McKinley came to my home in May to give me the estimate. He said he would contact me to make arrangements to do it. He asked me to find the shower surround. I checked the store but couldn't find the item.. While I waiting to for him to tell me when he would do the project he emailed me. He had gone to the hardware store and took pictures of the shower surround that was available. He asked me to pick out which one I wanted. He told me he would pick it up and bring it to my home when he came to install it. He emailed me and told me that he could come to my home on June 9th around 9 AM. He was on time and got to work immediately. He completed the project in less than 4 hours and did an excellent job. The cost was very reasonable.
Description of Work: McKinley installed a peep hole in my front door. He did an excellent job. He also put shower surround on the unprotected wall above of both the showers. He purchased the surround and other items to complete the project.

He was punctual but didn't provide any advice that was helpful nor did he provide a price for me.
Description of Work: McKinley came by and looked at my project. He promised me a quotation. I never received anything from him. I also talked with him about other projects I had going on that he may be interested in. Never heard back from him on those projects either.

He gave suggestions and provided his hourly rate and a verbal estimate of how long the work would take to complete. However, I asked for it in writing and have yet to receive the information. He seems like a nice man and was professional.
Description of Work: I had him come look at my home.

McKinley is the ultimate professional. He shows up on time, is spot on with his estimates, keeps me informed of every thing he's working on, calls to confirm when he'll be here and what he plans to do that day, is polite and respectful, and has more energy than the Energizer bunny! He can do anything from electrical to roofing to plumbing to any thing you can think of. As soon as he finishes a task, he's ready to go right on to the next one. No job is too big or too small, and he does not mind at all when you come up with a bunch of new stuff that was not on the original list. I am so thrilled with him and his excellent work that I'm having him return to install molding throughout the house, replace broken window balances so the windows stay open, replace exterior shutters, install decorative brackets on the porch, etc. He also goes above and beyond what I could possibly have expectedh. For instance, he picked up an invisible screen door to install for my french doors to the deck and when he opened up the box he found that the door was defective so he said not to worry, he would return it and get a replacement, and then come back and install it, which saved me a huge hassle. Also, I had asked him to replace a worn out roof boot and while he was up there, he inspected the entire roof and made a bunch of repairs that will save me grief in the future (gotta love that!). McKinley is really worth his weight in gold, and I sure hope HGTV doesn't find out about him because he could create his own show - it would be a smash because he is so personable and does such great work! I've hired many contractors in the past 15 years but never rehired any of them because I was nevery really happy with their service. McKinley is so great that I know he will always be the one I'll call when I have work to be done.
Description of Work: McKinley's website said to make a long list of things to do and he'll do them by the 1/2 day rather than to ding you for each item. Well, I took him at his word, and in 10 hours he did the following: Reseat mailbox post (it was wobbly) Replace old mailbox with new one Reseat dishwasher (it was badly installed and the installer said it couldn't be fixed, McKinley fixed it in a jiffy) Fix stickly drawer in bedroom table Repair crawlspace door so that it stays closed Replace roof boots on roof (McKinley said that while he was up there anyway, he renailed, resealed and repaired all kinds of things up there) Refasten ridge vent on roof Fill in corner gap on exterior aluminum wrap Remove gutter downspout and replace with a Rain chain Cut then add wire shelf in coat closet Install glass doors on fireplace Install TV cable to deck so I can watch TV out there Add hooks to deck for lights, then add the lights Replace pump in water feature (when he opened up the water feature, it was really gunky, so he asked for a rag then washed and cleaned it out until it was sparkly!) Run electricity to deck for the water feature Renail various items (lattice, decking, spindles, floor molding, etc.) Replace two drawer fronts in kitchen Adjust cabinets over refrigerator I'm sure there were more things, but this is all I could think of. These were just the things on the first 10 hours. McKinley has returned to do many more things such as repair holes in drywall, install swtiches so I can just switch on/off the water feature and deck lights, install curtain rods, installed a chain with a no trespassing sign in back yard, reseated badly installed (by another contractor) granite, repaired crack in driveway, installed chain on crawlspace door, etc.
