Since Chris lives in Clover and I am in Columbia, he was going to stay with my relative while working on my house during the week. He said he would have work completed by Christmas, then New Year's, then before I moved in. The work to date ( March 18, 2010) has not been completed. Chris asked if he could stay in my home to work so he wouldn't have to make the longer trip to my relatives. Since I had not moved in, I agreed (stupid idea). The work done was shoddy. All of my wooden cabinet doors were replaced with compressed wood. These doors sound and feel plastic as opposed to the solid wood doors that were already there. I had wanted him to add only moldings to the existing doors. I asked him what the material was and he told me it was solid wood. The kitchen pantry system turned out to be a liner made of compressed wood that made the pantry smaller; if he had just used the existing authentic wood and changed the shelves as I had requested, I would have kept a larger pantry than I now have. The book shelf in the living room was lined with compressed wood sides complete with cheap holes punched in the sides to mount shelves. No shelves were mounted and the fake wood does not match the rest of the trim work in the living room. Th linen closet was done like the pantry except the liner was cracked at the top. He said he was going to fix this mistake but never did, It also does not match the trimwork around it, Other oroblems: Chris removed my dishwasher ( I found out from the neighbor) from below the counter for some reason. As a result of this tampering, my dishwasher no longer worked and I was forced to call a repairman. He had to remount the diswasher in it's frame and close the vent door, He said that all the insulation had been removed from the sides. The repair bill/call was $90. None of the electric problems he found were corrected ( electric boxes to be added in places). The tv was watched but never mounted above my mantel. Chris would not arrive on days he said he would be at the house and would show up on days he was not supposed to be there ( When I had wanted to move things in). I was unable to move in when I had planned to move because he had not completed any work, Chris also messed up the reostat in the dining room after he had connected some utility lighting there, The reostat had to be replaced by someone else because of what Chis had done to it, My utlitlity bills were outrageously high while he stayed in the house ( 3-4 days per week). I had to pay those additional bills as well as the bills of my former home that I was still in. The final conversation I had with Chris Williams was by phone, He claimed he would be back the following week to complete the work: painting , mount 2 missing cabinet doors, add the door and drawer pulls, etc. That went on for several weeks/ He has not returned phone calls, nor has he come to the house as of March 18, 2010. I will eventually have everything he did replaced or restored as originally built. I cannot believe that all this has happened because I trusted a family member's "friend". Beware of wolves in sheeps' clothing! The caliber of what was done was far below standards. He wanted payments in advance which I foolishly gave him, I have since had REAL professionals look at the work. THey have all stated that the kitchen cabinet doors could be purchased for $12. each, and the shelf liners were so odd that no one had ever heard of shoving a closet inside a closet. In summary, I know that I got scammed by this guy who is NO LONGER any friend of my family's. As a recently divorced woman, I was taken advantage of by someone who played the "friend" card. I am heartsick about the job done here and the money spent for highly inferior and incomplete work. Christopher P. Williams lives in Clover, SC, and claims to work from Charlotte, NC - a place where an Ikea is located, coincidentally. He tells people that he works on multimillion dollar homes in Cashiers, NC, but this seems preposterous, I hope my report will save others from trusting this charlatan. He has never worked in Columbia before and hopefully will never do so,
Description of Work: This person was a friend of a close family member and was therefore considered trustworthy.I had just purchased this older home and wanted to have some updates done before moving in. Chris Williams met me at the house and we discussed many ways that he could improve existing features. He was contracted to paint kitchen and update kitchen cabinets, a pantry closet, with a rollout pantry system, aadd shelves to a linen closet and to a bookshelf in the living room, as well as in s closet in a study. He claimed he would also mount the flat screen tv above the mantel and that he would correct some electric wiring problems he discovered as he was doing whatever it was that he was pretending to do. Three mistakes I made: failure to check references (b/c he was a family member's "friend"); failure to get a detailed written plan for the work to be done; paying for work up front ( how stupid was that?? I asked for copies of all receipts but never received any, Services performed: *kitchen cabinet doors were replaced with compressed wood doors, complete with new hinges, minus two doors which he never put up. No pulls or knobs were added. *the pantry closet was filled with a compressed wood liner and therefore was made less deep and more narrow than before. A wooden wine rack above the pantry was removed per my request, and the same kind of cheap doors were added there. *the kitchen walls were painted one coat of paint that I had already purchased *the cabinets were not painted as planned in order to match the rest of the woodwork in kitchen. *the closet liner was added to the hall linen closet and was cracked when he shoved it into the existing closet; shelves were added. *the book shelf in the living room was lined with compressed wood - no shelves were added.
