He underestimated time required for remediation, but ended up not charging me for the additional time and stuck to his price. Paid half up front and other half when I was satisfied with the work done. Thorough.

As my above description shows, no work was done, but he educated me on what work was necessary and didn't attempt to take advantage of us. I highly recommend this firm for its honesty and integrity. I wish all businesses behaved this way.
Description of Work: We needed crawl space remediation for a few spots of mold and a slightly high water content in the joists beneath our flooring that was found in the home inspection we had when we bought the house eight months ago. We were told by another contractor that at a minimum we needed "French" trenching dug around the foundation and for best results a new vapor barrier as well. The first part would cost about $2500 and to add the barrier would bring the price to about $8,000. In contrast, Ancel Hamilton, the owner of Biotek Environmental, did the same inspection and told us that the main problem was that our roof drains were draining right against the foundation. He said that if we extended the pipes so that they carried the drain water farther away from the house, that would probably eliminate most of the problem. He said a little re-grading of the property (which we needed to do anyway) would help as well. As to the wood's water content, he said it was just slightly above the recommended limits and told us the measures he recommended would most likely cure that. If not, a new vapor barrier would definitely do it, and he said we could probably get it done for about $1500 from any local basement or crawl space specialist, or could do it ourselves for around $1000, depending on how good a vapor barrier we bought. He even explained to me how to do it. Lastly, he pointed out the small area where there was mold and said we could eliminate it ourselves with a spray of 8% hydrogen peroxide solution (industrial, not pharmaceutical), if we made sure to wear goggles, so as not to get any in our eyes. In closing he said "I could give you a price on this and make it worth our while to come up here, but you can do most of this yourself or pay a local guy to do it much cheaper. You don't really need much work here."

I would highly recommend speaking with Ancel Hamilton about your mold remediation needs. I was in a panic when I called Ancel. I told him that we were in the midst of selling our home and an air borne mold test was done and a few of the levels came back slightly elevated in the upstairs only. I had no idea what all of this meant. I sent Ancel the lab results and he immediately calmed me down. He explained the numbers and in his expert opinion believed the test may not have been done correctly as the numbers did not make sense and were also so low that no remediation would be necessary. He gave me an education on the type of mold spores that were elevated and the possible cause for this. He was truly honest with me as he could have said my house needed remediation when in fact what it needed was to be tested by a certified environmentalist to perform an accurate test. His level of knowledge, his honesty and his willingness to speak with me, as well as my realtor, to explain everything goes above and beyond what he had to do. He is a true gentleman who cared about doing the right thing and not about making money. I very thankful for his help and will recommend his services to anyone in need. My realtor plans on recommending his services as well as she was so impressed with his knowledge and honesty. Thank you Ancel!

That's one of your highest rated companies. They cleaned up very nicely after themselves because the area was encapsulated and so there was white plastic everywhere so they vacuumed the whole underneath of the house. They were done in 2.5 days. They came almost immediately. There was a little delay, a day; I called over the weekend and he answered. I was going to leave a message but the owner Ansel answered on the weekend and so we set up something. He had a cancellation so he came on Wednesday because he told me it would be next week probably. Everything is great. They did a great job as far as I can tell. He’s very knowledgeable and his people were friendly and courteous and stayed with the job the whole time. They didn't take a lot of breaks. We're pleased we just have to see what happens to my allergies now that the mold is supposedly gone. That will be the true test.
Description of Work: They sterilized and washed all the mold from the crawl space and then they applied a barrier to stop mold growth.

I am going to get the work started within the next 3-4 months. I need to finish unpacking a few things and make room for what is under the crawl space to be moved, since my husband just moved from CT to SC, and his stuff is still in boxes.
Description of Work: I needed to have a mold anylsis don even in my crawl space because every time it rains, or we get a lot of heavy rain, we get water in the crawl space. Seeing that the house I purchased two years ago, has been a money pit since I bought it, what one more thing that could be wrong with the house right?? During a home purchase we knew we had a water leak in the roof that had caused damage to the ceiling, walls, trim, etc. During the repairs of the damaged areas, I wanted to have a mold test done. I purchased the $250 mold inspection offer through Angie's List. Biotek was responsive and able to schedule the test right away. After the inspection and tests, they determined there was no major danger. The small amounts of mold they found were not black mold. They recommended having all drywall and insulation that had become wet to be removed, which was done by the seller's contractor. I was pleased with the experience and would use them again.

They got on the work immediately and finished as planned. They cleared out all areas of personal items, had insulation removed and replaced, sealed all cracks and spaces, cleared the mold, treated the wood, and dried everything. We also had the encapsulate the crawl space and coordinate replacement of HVAC ductwork. They provided a full warranty with the work. I have since referred them to several friends and neighbors.

My wife found out from tests that she had been exposed to mold. I called Biotek based on reviews I had seen and got in touch with Ancel. He was terrific, he was able to fit me in early the next day to take a look. He found the mold underneath the house and explained what type it was. He was also very honest in what was needed and didn't try to sell unneeded services. My wife was nervous about going back in the house and instead of suggesting things that were not needed Ancel told us that would be overkill and an unneeded expense. It was fantastic to have someone like that to talk to instead of someone using fear to sell more. We were able to call him several times with questions and he was always willing to talk and answer our questions. The team that fixed the house was fantastic and very professional. The carpet cleaning is more expensive than other cleaning services but well worth. The carpet looks and smells like new. My wife was very happy, I would highly recommend that service for anyone that wants their carpet to get a real deep cleaning. We are now back in our house and my wife is feeling better everyday. Thanks again Biotek for everything you did and how you do it. I hope I never have to call you again for mold :), but when it is time for another carpet cleaning I will definitely call Biotek!

Dealt with Thomas- who was professional and courteous both on the phone and in person. Thomas inspected the problem area and was able to diagnose its cause effectively (active leak). He also sprayed the problem area as a precaution. Our builders were in the area performing warranty work and were able to immediately address the issue. Would definitely use Biotek in the future for diagnosis, remediation, etc.

They recommended mold removal and remediation that I later found out was completely unnecessary. Anyone concerned about mold should be extremely careful because BioTek was just one of three companies who recommend unnecessary work that would have cost thousands of dollars. None of their analyses agreed with the other two companies, except that drastic action needed to be taken. Biotek presented themselves as highly professionally. Because I was paying for the analysis I felt I would get a more honest appraisal that the two previous free estimates that I received from other companies. Fortunately a friend and trusted associate asked me to let him read over their extensive analysis and recommendations. He explained that it was almost all hogwash, and that only minimal work was necessary, and most likely nothing needed to be done at all. I followed his instructions and basically did nothing. Months later it is obvious that I did not and do not have a problem. My friend is not in this industry, but is more than qualified by education and 20 plus years of experience to understand mold. Don't rush into action as a result of the recent rains and flooding. In my opinion there are many companies who take advantage of the fear of mold that has been built up in the media, particularly television.
Description of Work: Performed an analysis of a mold issue and recommended treatment and remediation. I did not go forward with any work - only paid them for the analysis.

Prior to coming out to the property questions about the suspected area were asked, types of services offered were explained, and an explanation of services were provided. The technician arrived on time and was courteous. He answered questions I had about the inspection and remediation process as he moved through the inspection. The technician spoke about different possibilities/ solutions depending upon the outcome of the laboratory findings. The report was delivered in a timely manner. The findings were reviewed over the phone. The disappoint in service was when the company provided/shared with a third party information in the report we paid for without asking our permission first.

+ 0 moreWhen I realized that I had a moisture problem underneath my house, and that mold was beginning to grow, I did extensive research trying to find the right company to help me. After seeing Biotek's credentials, and its many good reviews, I sent an email to the Company describing my crawlspace problems. Within the hour Ancel Hamilton called to talk with me, and to set up an appointment to come all the way from Columbia, SC to Salisbury, NC to access the situation. In our world today, good customer service is rare, and I felt as if Ancel was listening, and that he really cared. Biotek did excellent work. Everything was handled professionally, but also on a personal level. I liked that! Everyone who sees the finished product is impressed, but the most important thing is, it's working. The moisture level is good all the time, and the temperature under the house stays about the same as the temperature inside of my house winter and summer. I hope that I never need Biotek again except for yearly checkups, but I would definitely recommend them to someone else.
Description of Work: Removed old insullation and ran 24 inch air mover fan for 10 days to dry out subfloor and floor joist system. Remediated fungal contamination according to OSHA standards (30 year warranty). Did complete incapsulation of crawl space using 12 mil reinforced vapor barrier, preventing gasses and odors from entering the crawlspace and the living area of the home. Installed dehumidifier which runs when needed.
