Simmons Construction & Handyman Service

They spent the whole day here. Had to pay extra. We thought the work was relatively simple. Didn't need anything new put in, just check outlets, and rewire a room that we had taken a wall out. Will not have back.

I could not have asked for more professional behavior from Kevin and his team. They were on time, organized, respectful of me, my home and my animals the entire time that they were in my home (around seven hours). The jobs were delivered as quoted and done well and faster that I had thought possible. They only left after cleaning up after themselves. I would encourage anyone to use them for most every project, mine were electrical, and painting, but required knowledge as well. I will certainly use them again.

The company sent two men out who surveyed the situation and then promised to send an estimate for the job. However, I didn't hear back from them for about a month, and it was only to say that they had called. Ultimately, they never followed up with an estimate and never did the work.

It went very well. We had long discussions with Kevin as to the best methods of implementing the soffits and insulation and chimney chases and caps. Kevin was receptive to our input which he communicated to his workers and all the work was performed under our direct supervision as we have insight into the areas which needed repair. Kevin let us know when the rain would prohibit roof work so we could schedule our days accordingly. He and his crew arrived on the date and time he indicated so we were able to do our other tasks accordingly. All the work was performed as scheduled and within the estimated price range which had been agreed upon prior to the work being performed. Throughout these activities, we kept a constant dialogue with Kevin involving the details for the numerous tasks as identified which were many and varied. I would not hesitate to recommend Kevin and his crew for the work performed as noted.

They seem more concerned by the time allocated than the quality of the work. They include the time for 2 people to go pick up the door at Lowes as part of the 4 hours we had bought. i would have accepted 1 person going, but not 2. that took almost an hour off. When they removed the old door, they did not pay attention to the ADT sensor on the door. By the time we realized the sensor was lost and we had to pay to get it replaced. Definitively no attention to details.

Poorly. By far the worst electrician I have ever seen. He left exposed wiring in the attic and he took my portable light and approx 50 feet of wiring. I asked for reimbursement for $100 to reimburse me to repair his work and the taken tools and supplies but he didn't respond. Angie List had arranged a meeting date of June 23 at 7 am to correct this work. The day before, Kevin notified me of his coming. That morning as I waited I received a note from Kevin asking for my home address. Remind you, this is close to 2 months later and why he didn't prepare ahead of time in noting my home address, seems like sloppy planning on his part. I texted to his phone# I had, my address and waited. Yet after waiting two hours and he never showed up. So after waiting TWO MONTHS to get this fixed I went ahead and hired someone else to come and fix the problem. Also, to add more insult, when this work was originally done on May 2, Kevin's or his helper took 50' of wiring and my portable light costing $50+. I was hoping I would of gotten those items back. I would be very careful and make sure your tools and supplies you furnished are accounted for when he leaves your home. This overall was a very sad experience. The electrician I finally hired 2 months later to fixed laughed when he saw his work.

. Quality of work was very poor- work had to be done again. Painting skills poor on the most part. Not punctual or reliable. The owner is a very likable guy but had an inexperienced and young crew to work with on the most part. Walls and ceilings were not adequately prepped and so had to be painted over several times after painting being uneven. I really wanted to write a good review but could truthfully not do it.

Kevin was great. He responds promptly and got me in earlier than expected and it was a holiday week with the 4th of July coming up. His two workers, both named Daniel, were very nice and understanding. They did a great job installing an overhead rack in the garage. It was supposed to be an easy set up but it was much harder than expected due to our garage beams being abnormal. They did it correctly and without complaining.

I had several different places throughout the house that needed drywall repair -- mostly nailholes and some cracks. They sent out two techs. There were a couple of places where I wasn't satisfied with the end result -- it should've been sanded down or smoothed out. Other than that, it was alright.

Great communication, showed up promptly for job as planned, pleasant.

I purchased the "Handyman for a day" deal on May 5, 2014.. The first problem was that the contact person/owner Kevin did not call me to schedule the service as stated by the rapid response by May 7, 2014. So when he did not call me, I called him on May 8, 2014. and he immediately started with excuses that an employee of his had wrecked his truck. I told him of things I was interested in having done and we scheduled a of May 19 at 8:00 am. I provided him with my address and he discovered that he was working that day in my neighborhood. He asked if he could come by and look at some of the things to be done. I agreed and he came over. The first thing he told me was that the deal was for 3 hours with two people. I told him I did not recall the ad stating that, but I was fine with it. (I went back to check later, and that was not specified in his ad). Anyway I was fine with that. While he was here, I asked for a quote to do other things. He made notes and told me he would email me a quote. I asked when I could expect it, and he said in a couple of days. A couple days went by and I had not received the quote. So I called and left messages a few times, and even sent an email message through Angie's List. I told him if he was not interested in quoting, just say so and I would get someone else. He finally called me on May 15th, 7 days later, and again started the conversation with him having problems concerning the truck accident his employee had, and he would get me the quote, possibly that night. We reconfirmed the "handyman for a day" appointment again for Monday, May 19th at 8:00 am. As of May 18, I still did not have a quote. At this point I was not overly concerned, as I figured he would just bring it with him to the appointment on Monday morning, May 19th. Well to my surprise and disbelief, at 8:25 am, Kevin was not here and had not called. I called and left a message. He did not call back. I called again at 9:15 am, again I had to leave a message. Bottom line, he was a no show and did not return my calls. Once I submit this review, I will be contacting Angie's List for a refund. I have wasted a day off work for a no show. I am in utter disbelief that someone is trying to run a business in this matter. Unbelievable! After 24 hours, my phone calls have gone unanswered and unreturned. Refund please!!! Never call this guy, it will be like rolling dice if he shows or return your calls.

I just finished reading a review for service written by an Angie's list member who had been scheduled to have work done at her home two days before mine was scheduled, May 7, 2014. Except for the difference in dates and the fact that I let him put me off for three weeks before scheduling my repair, the stories he fed me were exactly the same (truck wrecked, issues with the adjustor, late because of traffic, etc) as hers. I have attempted to contact Kevin multiple time, both by phone and e-mail, but the result has been the same. Nothing. It is hard for me to believe that this contractor had such great reviews and then has turned out to be such a loser.

One of his trucks were towed so he wasn't able able to get his appointments since the info was in his car. I made an appointment Friday the 9th and he didn't show up so I called him and he apologized for not showing up and said he had a totaled truck. I then made an appointment for yesterday, he again couldn't call because his appointment book was in his truck. He said he would call me today between 5 and 5:30 but never did.

After buying this "Big Deal" on March 21 for 4 hours of rotten wood repair, I spoke with Kevin a few days later and scheduled an 8:00am appointment for May 5 for him to repair 2 windows. At 9:30 the night before, he called and said that his truck was involved in an accident that morning, and that he would not be on time the next morning. He said it might be 9:00 or 10:00 before he could get here. I told him it was not urgent, and told him we could just re-schedule. He said he might still be able to come in the morning, but he would call me either way the next morning. He didn't call back, or show up, so I called him later in the morning. He said he was tied up with the auto adjuster, and that he would call me back right away when they finished. He did not. That evening, I called him again, and we re-scheduled for Wednesday, May 14, at 8am - nine days later. At 8:25 on the morning of the 14th, no Kevin, no call. I called and left him a voice mail message asking if he might be stuck in traffic. At 8:45, I called again, he answered, and I asked him where he was. He said that he was tied up with an insurance person regarding his truck. I asked him why he didn't give me the courtesy of a phone call to let me know he wasn't going to show up. He said that he was sorry, and that this was not typical of his work ethic. I can't confirm or deny that, since this was my first experience with Simmons Construction. I told him that I thought I had been very patient, understanding and flexible, but at this point, I'm irritated with his unacceptable communication skills. A phone call from him would have made all the difference in the world. I told him I want my $149 refunded, and asked if I should go through Angie's List to get it. Kevin said that he would bring me a check that afternoon instead. He did not, and he has not called. Today, I will go through Angie's List to request a refund. This young man might be a wonderful contractor, but he does not understand the value of honoring commitments or communicating with clients.

They left spliced wires in attic and left them hanging. Leaving my house exposed to a fire hazard. Your suppose to put in junction box, according to code. I provided junction box for them. Kevin said he'd be out to fix the problem, will not return my calls, texts. Very shoddy work. They seemed like nice guys. They had the tools to do the job and seemed capable of doing the job. They could have tapped into a junction box about 2 feet away. Very unhappy. I would hope that he would do the honorable thing and come fix it. But I don't think he will. Its been 3 days now. Provider failed to show up (April 27, 2014) and when I phone him 30mins after the scheduled time he said he left a voicemail on a different phone. That he wasn't going to make it until noon. Received a second call at 11 saying he is still very busy can come by to see what we needed done but won't do any work until that evening. That evenin he was a no show. I called the next morning asking about the scheduled time for the work to be done. He forgot about last night and said he wasn't available until May 14th.

Excellent. We had a leak at one of the vent pipes causing water damage to our ceiling. The roof is 14 years old and we understand the boots around vent pipes rot and need maintenance in this time frame. The permaboots (lowes carries them) fit over the existing boots and don't require any shingle work so it's an economical way to correct the problem. So we decided to have all 4 vent pipes corrected , although we didn't realize we had that many at first. He was flexible and waited while I ran to get another permaboot from Lowes while he fixed the others. He also was very responsive. I called other roofing companies and they all were very busy and very pricey. Kevin and his assistant Rodney came out the next day right before another major rain storm was to hit. Finished just in time. I would definitely consider using them for other maintenance projects.

The pillars look good and the painting looks good also. I was disappointed that the siding did not match what I had (he only replaced portions which was a miscommunication) because they do not make the same material anymore. The siding is replaced, but because there are different types of siding it looks like I did it myself.

Kevin and his crew were here as scheduled. Walked the house as I explained the needed jobs done. Got right to work and finished the job on time. Very professional and knowledgeable. Did great work and cleaned up after themselves as they went. A plus in my book. I am going to use them in the near future to hang new interior doors in my house also to change out bathroom vanity top. I would highly recommend them to anyone needing neat clean and quality work. Prices are fair.

They were on time.did exactly what I ask. Also very kind and respectful.

The jobs were preformed as they should be. The workers were courteous and professional.. Everything occurred in a professional manner. They cleaned up and hauled away the trash.

After inspecting work to be done and agreeing that he could do it within the time frame (4 hrs), contractor has failed to perform. Phone call to him left me with impression he would rather not take on job.

Kevin and his crew were very professional. They cleaned up all of the debris before they left for the day. Kevin and his crew were very willing to perform the work to my satisfaction. I have additional projects for Kevin to complete in the near future.

Excellent job! Kevin and his crew arrived right on time and worked non-stop until the job was completed. It took them only 3 hours to complete a ton of work. They were very professional, polite, and highly skilled. I am extremely impressed with their work and plan to use them again for other projects. I highly recommend them to anyone who is in need of home repairs.

He did the odd jobs I needed done and did a good job installing the ceiling fan and other odd jobs -- Then he agreed to paint two ceilings (in addition to the coupon I purchased on Angie's list) for an extra $400 - He painted the edges of the ceiling in one color which looked dark gray and the center in a different color which looked white and said "it would probably match when it was dry" and if they didn't match he would come back. He got paint on all the furniture too. I called at 8 AM next morning and told him they were terrible and we had guests coming. He promised to come over and fix it that day. We waited 9 PM and he still hadn't showed up - I called again around 5 PM and he promised to be there to fix the mistake in 2 hours --- He never showed up -- I left message after message on his phone and he as of yet has never returned any calls and it has been 5 days. I had to hire another person to repaint the ceiling.
