Cannot believe how cheap and shoddy construction is. So many things over such a short time makes me question their ability to build with integrity. Water pipes are not strapped so they loudly vibrate. Seams in drywall obvious in multiple areas, including ceiling. You can see many areas where they didn't sand the wall putty. Roof pulls up with temperature changes. They did not bolt down the kitchen sink or seal around it. Plumbing to the dishwasher is installed incorrectly, causing excess stain and quicker aging...all because they did not use basic plumbing rules. Water was coming into the house from the main water line at a MUCH higher pressure than it should (90) before we spend $1000 to have their work fixed. I believe this company has merged with another so due your due diligence before purchasing a home from any company connected to this.

The construction was shoddy at best. They used moldy boards, had walls that didn't meet up to the floor (due to crummy framing), they nailed through a drain pipe and rather than properly correcting it they eliminated the drain (sawed off the pipe and put a mound of concrete over it). The majority of the headers were cut totally wrong which defeats the purpose of a header. We tried for months to get them to correct the problems. They did actually correct a few minor things (like missing nail guards and some missing hurricane straps) but the major things (like crooked walls and missing fire caulking) weren't fixed. The house was poorly constructed and rather than re-framing it and fixing it properly they did partial fixes such as partially shimming a header etc. Finally when we realized that they weren't going to properly fix the main issues we had a mutual release of contract with them. They went on to insulate and drywall without fixing the problems and raised the price of the house several thousand dollars. What we experienced was unethical and we will not do business with them and we can't in good conscious recommend them to anyone. Thank goodness for services like Angie's List so people know the truth about businesses like this. In fairness we will say that we looked at several Ryland neighborhoods and not all of the houses were poorly constructed. I think it boils down to the site manager making certain that the framers, plumbers, etc., are doing their job properly so that they are producing a quality home. Regardless, the fact that we went all the way up to the vice president of the construction division in this region and the problems still weren't resolved says a lot.
