Two guys showed up, on time, as scheduled, and went right to work moving all the furniture -- including an oak armoire and a queen-sized bed -- out of our house in Wagener Terrace onto the truck. Then they followed us to Mt. Pleasant and waited while we paid for a washer dryer set so they could load that on the truck. They followed us to the apartment and unloaded everything --- up 27 steps with no elevator on a very hot, humid day. They did it all of that in about 3 hours. Nothing broken or scratched. It was an easy move because of them. Very professional, very efficient. They knew what they were doing, and we were moved into the new place by noon that day.

It was an excellent experience. They showed up about 45 minutes later than promised, but from the moment they arrived until they unloaded the truck 11 hours later they were professional, hard working and took great care of my families furniture and things. I was totally impressed.

This was my first time using movers and they had good reviews on here so I gave them a call. They arrived early for the move and got everything cleared out quickly. It was my fault that the time to move went over the estimation as we had a bug problem when moving a large piece that had been in storage for a while. They helped us chase bugs out and helped us deal with the problem that wasn't even in their job description. Though the time went over, I didn't mind because of all their hard work and willingness to help us. Wonderful.
Description of Work: Moved a 2 bed house and a 1 bed house into a 3 bed apt including multiple stops and plenty of heavy items. Movers were extremely helpful and nice. Took care of everything and were flexible on extending time to move and help needed.

Process was great. Ronnie got everything set up and there were no hidden costs for pads, etc. (the wrap was $20 but was optional). The moving team Chris, John, and Tyrell were awesome. They even helped with a mattress delivery that showed up at our house while they were unpacking. They did not damage anything or even touch our brand new walls.

Our experience with this company was appalling. We scheduled our move with them for Saturday, February 16th. We exchanged a few emails (with Matthew Doscher and Ronnie Fulmer) to schedule and confirm our appointment: including one last email on Thursday, Feb 14th, ?We're just touching base to confirm our move date and time with you: this Saturday at 10 am,? my husband wrote. Ronnie?s answer: ?Yes. We?re good to go!!? We have an extensive written record of this reservation. We received a call on Friday, 7:30 am, and an unknown guy says ?We are coming for your move; we should be arriving in about 30 minutes.? My husband and I were getting ready to go to work, plus a few more details still had to be taken care of before moving, there was NO WAY we could move one day in advance, so suddenly, abruptly, without proper notice. We tried to reason with this person on the phone and he was incredibly rude and aggressive: he said ?Someone made a mistake with scheduling??to which we answered, ?This is your problem, not ours. We must go to work, we can?t move today, we are scheduled for tomorrow.? Not only this guy did not apologize but he barked at my husband, ?Either I move you today, or I don?t move you at all.? Well, guess what! they DID NOT move us at all. We immediately hung up on this guy, and called the owner Matthew?who admitted that someone put us down on the wrong date on the calendar. Still, he did not apologized, sounded annoyed and did not seriously attempt to work with us. Matthew said he would see what he could do and call us back: HE NEVER DID! We did not remain idle waiting for these unethical creeps to do something: I called Two Men and a Truck and they took us under their excellent care?we received the best imaginable service from Two Men and a Truck, and spent less than we would have with Movers and Groovers. So far, we hooked up three couples of friends who also moved this spring with Two Men and a Truck and told them not to use Movers and Groovers. I will make sure to let everybody know at work and within my circle of friends how unprofessional, unethical and rude these guys at Moovers and Groovers were. As far as we are concerned: TERRIBLE PEOPLE, TERRIBLE COMPANY. UPDATE- JUNE 14TH 2013 ONE EXTRA ALARMING FACT: We wrote our negative review (F) of Movers & Groovers on May 6th 2013?however someone (NOT US) had already posted a very positive review (A) in March 2013! This is so troubling! We filed a complaint with Angie?s List and they took that review down?however, it has not been explained to us yet how it is possible that ?someone? was able to enter a false review under our account. This should put in a brand new light all those ?A? reviews this company has. Be warned! This is truly fishy and extremely disquieting.
Description of Work: They mistreated us, acted in total bad faith and left us in the lurch at such an important and stressful moment in our lives. (And anybody who is in the process of moving knows how stressful and problematic that is.) They were aggressive, unprofessional and, despite the fact that they admitted to have made a huge mistake and screwed up, they did not take responsibility for their error and mismanagement and did not try in the least to fix the mess. We did not even receive as much as an apology! Nothing. Immoral, unethical crooks.

The crew of three showed up on time and immediately got to work. They essentially did two moves, first a truckload to my storage unit and second a truckload to my new house across town. The men were obviously experienced movers and were very polite, nothing was broken, everything ended up where it was supposed to be, they worked so quickly and efficiently that they beat their estimate on hours it would take by two hours. I paid them extra to shrink wrap a bunch of the furniture (I didn't realize that would need to be done but was very glad that they did it as some of my furniture will be in storage for at least a year). I was very happy with the service and will use them again if I have need for movers!

I decided on very short notice to hire someone to help me remove all the stuff from my live aboard sailboat that has been stored in a boatyard and in need of clearing out so some repairs can be made. I started making calls at about 8am and picked Movers and Groovers first as they had such good ratings. Ronnie, the owner, picked up the phone right away and was able to schedule two guys for 2pm the same day. There was a family emergency with the driver that delayed their arrival until 3:30, but they let me know at 2:30 they would be late, as a new driver had to be picked up. It worked out fine, as it gave me more time to pack, and once they arrived, the work went so quickly, I would have been far behind in packing the last items into boxes. I had originally planned on renting my own truck and just hiring the guys, but the cost of including the truck was minimal, so I cancelled my Budget truck and used theirs. Much cheaper and saved so much time! When they arrived, they introduced themselves and went over the paperwork, describing in detail how the work was priced. The pricing is VERY competitive, in fact, much better than what I had expected to pay. The total charge for the job was 2.5 hours on site and 1 hour travel time. This was a weird move compared to a home move, as it required a guy on the boat handing items down or lowering boxes on a block and tackle to the ground about 15 feet below. But Justin and Tyrell were up for it, and quickly figured out how to position the truck so the lift gate could be raised high alongside the boat so things could be easily handed down (if not too bulky or heavy). The other stuff had to be but in a big tub and lowered over the rail with a block and tackle rigged on the boom. They cleared the boat in 1.5 hours, and it would have taken me a couple of days on my own. They were really, really fast, very professional, careful with my stuff, extremely pleasant and cheeful, and worked incredibly hard. I followed them to my new storage unit and they had everything into the storage unit in about half an hour. This really was a lot of stuff too - nearly filled a 5 x 10 x 10 unit all the way to the ceiling. Not just boxes, but big bulky things, plastic tubs of stuff, heavy spare parts, all the junk you end up accumulating on a boat over the years. It was an entirely positive experience, and when I have to haul all that stuff back on to the boat, I told Tyrell and Justin I would be calling them again. Thanks guys, you did a great job!
Description of Work: Moved items off of a boat stored in a boatyard, transported to and placed items into a storage unit. Unlike a house move, this required lowering things on a block and tackle and handing things down over the rail to ground level 15 ft below.

My husband and I are renovating an old home and purchased a kitchen set of cabinets and countertops from a salvage store a year ago and had them moved to the house by our contractors at the time. We were not even close to being ready for them and set them in an unused space for storage. We are now nearing the completion of the renovation and needed the largest pieces moved upstairs to the second floor which we have designed as the main floor. There are tons of people on Craig?s List looking for moving work and we could have hired any one of them for cheap, but being this close to completion and in a time crunch to get a mortgage on the property, we knew that we should spend the money and hire good, dependable, licensed and insured movers. So that is what we thought we were doing. We used Angie?s List to ensure trust worthiness, we read all of the reviews and although at the time their ratings weren?t 100% perfect, the only negative comments were about timeliness which was not our concern. Also, at the time, there was only one page for both the Charleston and Columbia offices. Now, the Charleston and Columbia offices have two different pages. Our move was February 23, 2013. We hired them to move a long piece of Corian countertop with integrated sink, an island cabinet, refrigerator and range from the 1st floor of the home to the second. I?m still finding scratches on the floor from all of the items that were moved but the big issue that we had and are still dealing with is the countertop. The countertop was an "L" shaped 100"+ long piece of Corian with a large, deep double bowl sink. There were only two movers there to do our job. No one had visited or surveyed our job prior to the move date. The movers, one on each end, carried the countertop on its side (the proper method) to the upstairs. My husband was holding the door for them and as he was closing the door and about to say "hold on and I will help you support the sink", they tilted the countertop upright and the whole thing broke in 3 pieces and crashed to the wood floors that we just had installed. The weight of the sink of course had caused the countertop to give and break. Most anyone would know that and we would assume that professional movers would too. The movers immediately denied any wrong doing and acted as if the countertop must have been defective. We got the name of the owner and called him to report the claim. We first talked to the Columbia owner, Nathan, who accused us of having a cracked countertop and said it would not be covered. Then we talked with the President in Charleston, Matthew Doscher, who was much more helpful and said he would send us a claim form and process it. He sent us the claim form and we filled it out in about a week. We had to get quotes on the costs of replacement. We emailed the claim form with quotes to him as requested and have never received any further information on our claim. At first he said it just took a while but finally, he just never contacted us back. We asked him several times for a contact at the insurance company and he refused to give us one. He would not give us the name of his insurance company. The claim form is not from an insurance company but from the moving company itself. I would have thought that an adjuster would come to look at the damage or that we would receive a call from the insurance company but we never have. I DO NOT BELIEVE THAT THIS COMPANY HAS INSURANCE!!! This countertop and flooring repair is delaying us in getting a mortgage on this house. We have expressed how important this is and have gotten no response. We have called and emailed both locations several times. After spending over 2 months with no resolve, we have to begin some type of legal action in order to get this resolved. And after thinking about it, my husband was going to help support the sink in order to safely place the countertop. But if he had been disabled and unable to help, they would not have even had enough people there to properly move the countertop. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY TO ANYONE. I WOULD CONSIDER THIS COMPANY A SCAM SINCE IT REPRESENTED ITSELF AS HAVING INSURANCE BUT APPARENTLY DOES NOT. Update: 6/14/13 They did state to Angie's List that they were going to reimburse me around $400 for over $2000 in damages. We did not sign an invoice, no paperwork other than something saying that the job was complete. We have asked for copies of this paper work that he is referring to along with a receipt and have received neither. If we had actually signed something that stated that as the insurance policy, then all of this would be a moot point as long as they paid us. But the fact is, that there is no signed invoice and to date, 120 days later, not a penny has been paid. I had several contractors move this countertop around the house on various occaisons without incident and every one of them knew how you should lift and hold Corian, but because we were in the final stages of the rennovation and could not afford for anything to go wrong at this point, we hired what we thought were licenced, insured, dependable, professional movers from Angie's list. I guess I should have just picked someone cheap off of Craig's list. I would have had a better result.
Description of Work: We hired them to move a long piece of Corian countertop with integrated sink, an island cabinet, refrigerator and range from the 1st floor of the home to the second. The countertop was an "L" shaped 100"+ long piece of Corian with a large, deep double bowl sink.

First issue we would like to address is the assumption that we are not insured. Per the state of south carolina and per angies list we are fully insured with general liability and cargo insurance that cover the items during transportation up to 100,000. As per federal regulations we are required to carry .60 cent per lb for items damaged while being handled outside of the truck. Your job was a labor only job require no transportation within a truck, therefore applying the .60 cent per lb coverage as stated on your signed invoice. We take pride in providing exceptional service for our client, mistakes can and do happen as they can in any aspect of life. I am sorry this happened I can assure it was not deliberate. According to the DOT table and review of your submitted info. We plan to reimburse for the flooring repair and as far as the countertop this is not a standard household good so we are waiting for the reimbursement price from are claims review staff. We plan to issue payment within next 7 days as it takes 30 business days for receipt of the claim to process payment.

Fair move overall, but much more than price quoted.
Description of Work: move from 1 residence to a second residence. they did not have a sufficient number of trucks and therefore used to pods to make the move. wow that might normally have been acceptable the pods were left on the street at 1 residence for 2 days and then at the second Residence they were left in the driveway for 3 days. otherwise the move generally was good. we are still I'm packing boxes but so far I have found nothing damaged. As we unpacked we found a number of heavy boxes left in the garage instead of placing in rooms where they were designated.

Everything was super smooth. The only hiccup was a small misunderstanding about the fact that it would be a 2 day move, so we didn't realize they were coming a day earlier than we thought. As soon as we realized this (and that we would be at work, and not packed!) they changed the date for us with no fuss at all. The moving crew was very thoughtful of us all day, never asked for a thing and they tried not to be in OUR way!

I booked the truck and two movers a few weeks ahead of time, we wanted to have them load first thing in the morning and unload at 4pm. I gave a B for Punctuality because we scheduled them to arrive at 7am to load because we had a 9:30 closing scheduled. The night before, they called to say that the truck they were going to send us was broken down and they would need to use a rental truck. But the rental truck place didn't open until 8am so they wouldn't get to us until 8:30am or 9:00am. The next morning, they called at 8:30am to say they were just going to get the truck and then they would be on their way. My husband and I opted to go to closing separately which required us each driving back and forth to West Ashley while one stayed at the house to wait for the movers. They finally arrived at 9:45am. Once there, Frank and James were awesome and very efficient. They did a great job of wrapping the furniture and getting things loaded. They gave us their number in case we needed them to unload before 4pm. At 4pm they arrived at the new house and unloaded VERY quickly while still putting things in the various rooms they belonged in. I can't emphasize enough how friendly and professional James and Frank were. When it came time to pay the bill, we were given an extra 5% off to compensate for the inconvenience that morning which was much appreciated.
